Wow.

This opens the door for the other Western Conferences teams to take the top spot. Let's go Clippers!

btw, I think Harden would be a perfect fit to start at SG for the Clips when he hits free agency.

Thunder just dropped to 3rd in the west in my opinion, Martin is good but overrated and Jeremy Lamb isn't going to help in his rookie year.

He ain't winning 6MOY now that he has to be the main guy for Houston. All signs point to Jamal and Bledsoe.

Good trade for OKC as they weren't going to be able to sign Harden anyway. Martin will definitely help the Thunder and Lamb's an excellent pick up...plus the picks. Good job again by Sam P. They'll still be in the mix for the #1 seed in the WC.

The picks are highly protected if i'm not mistaken, and they definitely are not considered a Big 3 anymore so I think Presti did the best he could but either way they can't be the favorite for the #1 seed. I just don't see it.

You may not see it, but they'll be right there I'm afraid.

They now have 3 of the top 10 Ball hogs in the league. Harden was a better passer than Westbrook and had better Basketball I.Q.

Agree on that Harden having the better BBIQ.....Westbrook is overrated.

He's not, he will sign the contract by the deadline on Wednesday. Would be nice but i'd rather give Bledsoe a max contract.

Small step back for OKC this year, but puts them in a better position long term. Martin is serviceable but fragile. Lamb looks like the real deal. The best passer on the team with an already low APG gets traded though.

If Harden really turned down a chance to stay in OKC over $1m/ year dispute in salary, that speaks volumes about his character to me.

I love his game, but he will eventually regret his choice, when his buds make the finals again and he's watching on tv.

Good retort on the Harden selfish/character thing:

Patrick Minton at The NBA Geek notes that people shouldn't accuse Harden of being "selfish" (a truly odd argument in a nation that employs capitalism). And furthermore, we should think a bit harder about OKC's claims of poverty.

my original point is.why, exactly can't OKC afford to pay for Harden? Twitter is awash with type-first-think-second-if-they-think-at-all pundits who are quick to blame the CBA and how the harsh luxury taxes put small markets at a disadvantage, so clearly the OKC ownership is a victim of the system, here.

Exceptdoes anyone remember the part where this team used to play in Seattle? I know geography is not a strong suit for us Americans, but surely there are a few people that might recall, if gently prodded, that a lot more people live in Seattle, and that, famously, lots of them are millionaires. in 2009, Clay Bennett took the Sonics and moved them to Oklahoma City (and paid a handsome sum to do so) because that's his hometown. This franchise chose to be here.

If a man wants to own an NBA team in his hometown, that is his right, of course. It's cool if Mr. Bennett and his co-owners like watching the team in their hometown more than they like money. But it strikes me as odd that James Harden is being asked to pay for the moving expenses. It strikes me as exceedingly strange that a man who wants to be paid his market value (or wellat least as close as he can get with the max) is considered "selfish", but that packing up the toys and moving them to Oklahoma City isn't.

So true.

do they really expect to build a team around him? he needs to stay on the bench!

I guess so, he only scored 37 pts (14-27) with 12 assists tonight, lol.

Yep, OKC gonna miss him. They shouldn't traded Westbrook and gave him the max.

^^^I am NOT commenting on the OKC vs Houston salary offers. My point was that OKC and Harden were reportedly only $1m/ year apart. Thats the point where each side just has to make it happen. Both sides will eventually regret it.

OKC offered a 55m/4 year deal. Houston offered a 80m/5yr. Quite a huge difference. Harden also gets to be the man on Houston. I am not sure if he can be a 1st option but the dude is a stud. He can be a 2nd option on a championship level team. I like his game.

Houston doesn't have a very good team but Asik, Lin, Parsons is a decent young core and Houston has a lot of young players and picks(trade assets or potentially good players?).

If I was OKC I would totally have traded Russell for a real PG. Harden is just an overall more efficient scorer, has better shot selection than Westbrook, better passer, and a better teammate overall. They could have gotten Nic Batum and Damian Lillard for Westbrook.

If I were them I would have traded Ibaka and kept Harden. Ibaka is an extremely overrated defender. He gets blocked shots but he easily gets into foul trouble, and falls for pump fakes. His defensive iq is not great.

WB and Harden both>>Ibaka. OKC could have gotten some decent value for him for sure.

^Good point, but Ibaka has some size so letting him go when your main inside presence is Perkins makes things shaky. Personally, I think Westbrook is overrated. Dont get me wrong his skill set is amazing. But I dont like shoot first PGs that play out of control most of the time. He reminds me too much of Starbury. With his speed and ability to break down a defense he ought to be putting up 10+ APG kinda numbers. Instead, he consistently goes for the spectacular shot and leaves bigs standing under the basket wide open.

You keep Ibaka (better than you think and MUCH better bang for the buck) trade Westbrook and KEEP Harden. It's a move I think OKC will regret. Oh well, water under the bridge now.

^Right on. Bring in a serviceable PG and keep rolling. Westbrook would have fetched major return in a trade.

^ Until he plays us. His departure certainly weakened OKC short-term.

We really do stand a very good chance of finishing top of the conference.

Westbrook is an All NBA second team caliber player. Ibaka is a mediocre rebounder for his position, an average scorer and a very good defender. He just signed a 48m/4yr contract with the Thunder. I fail to see how he brings MUCH better bang for your buck.

Or are you saying that Westbrook would give you a lot more trade value so it would be more worthwhile to trade him? I think it wouldn't be a bad trade to trade Westbrook + Perkins for Dragic, Gortat + some nice filler. Value wise OKC might lose out a bit but that would make the OKC a better team overall. Gortat is much much better than Perkins and Dragic is a capable scorer and passer.

WB is a beast but not exactly the best fit for the OKC I guess especially with two ultra efficient scorers.

IMO Westbrook IS overrated and Ibaka IS better bang for the buck and I can validate the point with some advanced matrix sites....but you probably wouldn't believe them anyway, LOL. So believe what makes you feel the most comfortable....that's cool.
