Clippers vs. Lakers Match Ups

Starters:

CP3 > Steve Nash

Chauncey Billups << Kobe Bryant

Caron Butler = MWP

Blake Griffin >= Pau Gasol

Deandre Jordan < Dwight Howard

2nd Unit:

Eric Bledsoe > Steve Blake & Chris Duhon

Jamal Crawford & Willie Green > Jodie Meeks & Johnson-Odom

Grant Hill & Matt Barnes > Devin Ebanks & Earl Clark

LO & Trey Thompkins = Antawn Jamison

Ryan Hollins & Ronny Turiaf = Jordan Hill & Robert Sacre

I think this is right on the money! What do you guys think?

A Jamison will be a dud. Hollins and Turiaf WAY better than Hill and whoever

I think for the purposes of matchups, you might also want to plug in the second unit against the starters. During the offseason, Vinny Del Negro had the bench players play a lot of minutes to get a basic idea on lineups. Most of Bledsoe's steals were on Steve Nash, so it should be of no surprise that some of the Clippers bench players can excel against the Lakers starting team (except for maybe Kobe Bryant, because he becomes unfoulable after picking up his fifth. And he has to be fouled out if the Clippers have any hope of defeating the Lakers).

Furthermore, our second unit had to play most of the starters (Gasol, Artest, and Nash) late in the game when it was close. Our second unit was going toe to toe with them.

Absolutely, our second unit can match up very well against some starting lineups. Any one read the sports section of the Los Angeles Times today? Lamar odom finally practiced and reporters were houding him about his weight and it being the factor for mssing games. He responded that he is in shape and was making hook shots and playing well. Now as we all know we cant put much stock in Odoms words, but something tells me that he wants to shed this perception of himself..i have a feeling we will get the good Lamar

I've been picking my brain for the longest time trying to identify what the current lakers squad reminds me of, and today it finally hit me...

The Traveling Wilburys.

Never heard of them? I don't blame you.

The Traveling Wilburys were a "supergroup" formed in the late 1980's. The members were: George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison, Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne (of E.L.O.).

These were five of the most respected and successful rock musicians of the last century, with combined album sales numbering in the hundreds of millions. If you put a group of guys like that together, the end product would surely be the greatest rock band in history, right?

Wrong.

All of them were years past the prime of their careers. The gold and platinum records on the wall, the Grammys on the shelves and the millions of dollars in the bank insulated them from feeling the hunger of younger artists who had yet to achieve any of those things.

They released their first album in 1988... their single peaked at #45 on the Billboard chart. It was one of the most overhyped, disappointing experiments in musical history. How could so much talent collaborate to produce such a turd? We'll never know, but I can tell you this...

A little-known band who had been knocking around for a few years honing their craft and pleasing their fans at small live shows took the Grammy for best album in 1988. That album was called "The Joshua Tree" and that band was called "U2". They went on to become the biggest band on the planet for a decade. Maybe Blake and CP3 are our Bono and Edge.

We'll begin to get an idea if they are on Friday, with our first matchup against the Los Angeles Wilburys!

I like the strides Deandre has made so far. We dont need him to be better than Dwight though, as long as everyone else contributes we can beat them

Not being a homer... seriously hahha!! I honestly believe that and i have been big on DJ from the start. I honestly initially thought he was a better pick than EJ in that draft, but you can call me crazy if you want LOL!

If DJ keeps Dwight under 20 & 10 & goes over 12 & 10, I see that as a matchup victory.

^ Keep telling yourself that. And keep saying that Nash and snake-boy can give you 40 minutes a night for 100 games. And keep saying that as soon as everyone is comfortable with Mike Clown's "new system" things will be fine... I heard that one all last year.

There's no law against self-deception... but I feel it's my duty to tell you that if you persist in peddling this bullshit to non-lakers fans, they will begin whispering to each other, pointing at you and giggling.

Well, your analogy is wrong. Howard was working out before preseason started. I think Howard is timid he'll get hurt again. He was having full contact practice long before he played his first game.

Maybe the pressure is getting to him. By the way, isn't he the self-proclaimed "Superman"? Or is it now "Ironman"? lol.

Either way, you don't make excuses for a guy who thinks he's a superhero! lol lol lol

He may not be the best center, and its hard to say where he ranks. However, what he does is provide exactly what this teams needs from a center: great defense, and now he looks to have even added a nice little offensive game

I've thought about this alot and I think you're too generous to them.

Caron is a much better player than Artest. Totally honest and not biased because I actually love that lunatic....I would not trade our 3rd string SF for artest. Forget about salaries, contracts, whatever. I will take Barnes or Grant Hill over Artest any day of the week. Their starting SF would not see the court on our team. Think about that for a minute. It's quite possible, if we added Artest to our roster today, that he would not even be worthy of a uniform if we don't have injuries.

They have a monstrous deficiency at SF and we should be able to take full advantage of that.

CP3/Blake vs. Nash/Pau. I know those guys are good players but neither of them have a shot in hell to have one single night of an even matchup. If DHoward spends a lot time doubling Blake, ok they can probably slow him down. But one-in-one, Gasoft is a shadow of his former self and Blake destroys him...Then get into the rest of the game, intangibles, running the floor, ect. Blake is sooooo much more valuable than Gasol, it's not even close.

And Chris Paul destroys Nash. Period. There's no conversation. He's a big name that could have a child in the league at this age. 5 years ago, Nash was a great player, now he's just a name. And you add in the fact that they've installed this ridiculous offense that has Nash throwing an entry pass and then running to the corner, it just nullifies the only good thing about Nash.

I honestly think if CP3 was out and we had to go with Bledsoe all game, he would absolutely tear Nash to pieces.

There should be no = signs in the bench comparisons unless you want to go Turiaf vs. Jordan Hill. They're the exact same player. The difference is Hill is their 6th man and Turiaf is our 11th man. Because of this, you can't compare these two if you're making player comparisons.

It has to be Odom vs. Hill. That's a joke. Maybe this week he won't be up to snuff but througout the season we have one of the best bench bigs in the NBA, they have a journeyman rebounder.

Jamison is terrible. Grant Hill and Barnes tear him up.

Their PGs are terrible Bledsoe kills those guys.

Jodie Meeks is terrible. Crawford destroys him.

We might lose this week to that team but they're going nowhere. I predict Mike Brown will be fired at midseason when they're barely above .500.

Not Technically,He hasn't played a game of basketball in quite some time. So you could still expect him to be sore even the training staff said this. This is really no concern, but believe what you want to & I will believe what I want to.

Dude your team is a joke. Wishful thinking by the national media and it will sort itself out very quickly.

15 man roster and there's only 4 good players! One is old enough to be your grandpa and two more are FAR over the hill. Gasol is done. Kobe is already hurt and the one guy in his prime is the absolute weakest mental player in the game.

Artest is horrible. Jamison is horrible. The whole bench is horrible. And yah there's a real good looking starting lineup, which I will be surprised if they can actually play 40 games together without breaking down. Get used to watching the great Steve Nash laying on his stomach with an icepack on the back from the 2nd quarter on. Get used to a whole helluva lot of Kobe screaming at his teammates. Get used to Mike Brown saying after the games how he saw some good things even though the score didn't show it. Get used to losing. Alot.

I agree with everthing you said except "we might lose this week"..somehow i dont think thats gonna happen. Blake and Jordan will neutralize Pau and Dwight. Artest and Butler may be an even matchup too. But in the backcourt we got a combo of Bledsoe, CP3, Crawford, and even Barnes to throw against a hurt kobe and nash...our back court will murder them

Can you believe those whiny bastards they call FANS, fans, can you believe that? They now wanna trade Pau for JSmith up front, so i have to say is there a secret committee where the Lakers just ask teams like the Magic to give them stars? Cause if not Hawks wanna lose taking that stupid trade. Pau is SLOW, SLOWWWWWWWWW, he can't move, has no more defense, not the superstar he once was, Nash gets KILLED by the faster guards(Collison, Bledsoe) So unlessthat committee exists there is ABSOLUTELY no way Hawks take that trade!

Wow they're terrible. That is the dumbest offense for that team. What's the point of having Kobe and Nash if you don't let them create. Hilarious and that's against a pretty bad team with Eddy Curry as the starting C.

Hope they don't change a thing.

Not true. You won't shut Kobe down but Nash isn't what he used to be. Can we deny him the ball? Shut down MWP or Gasol. Can Kobe guard Bledsoe? If BG's jumper looks like it did in shoot around and Bledsoe's shooting ain't a fluke and DJ doesn't get totally punked like D12 an A DJ a C

We can win. They can rotate their starters but their bench guys will get torched. Hell their starters will have trouble with Crawford and LO and Bledsoe.

As I say in each post I pray EB can play SG. This is not a joke. If EB continues to improve if I were CP3 in order to keep EB I'd let him start and come in after 5 min.

Beautiful Post!

Our biggest edge on the Lakers aside from our depth, is our team chemistry. We have a really strong locker room with incredible leadership, and a group of guys who know exactly what their role is, and what they're expected to bring to the court each and every night.

There's obviously still a sense of uncertainty within the Lakers offense at the moment, but I expect for things to clear up for them as the season goes on. The Miami Heat had similar struggles in their first season together, but they were able to figure out a suitable offense to pair with their incredible defense before seasons end. We should expect the Lakers to do the same.

Our biggest question is whether or not we'll be able to develop the defensive intensity to push us up there amongst the NBA elite. If we can Carve out a Top 5 defense before seasons end, or both Dj & BG find a way to average 70% from the free throw line between the two in the playoffs, or both O.O... Then the championship is as good as ours.

Chris Paul>> a 39 year old Nash.

Howard>> DJ(if DJ plays like he did in preseason it will only be one >)

BG is clearly> Pau at this point.

Agree with everything else.

Yup. It seems like their biggest problem is yet again the point guard. And guess what? We have the best point guard combo in Bledsoe and CP3, young, quick guards that can speed past Nash and still have a knack for distributing.

What I see from that roster is a second round exit in the playoffs. Essentially, they are the same team from last year, but a year older. Their biggest offseason acquisition was an upgrade at a position they were already strong in. They would have been better served by getting a young point guard, but thanks Mitch for going for Dwight.
