after the last game a reporter asks him how the Clippers can win the rebounding war and stop the other teams from grabbing so many offensive boards against the team and instead of taking responsibility, he says its on the whole team to crash the boards.....

What he says bares some merit, but I don't like how he denies his responsibility to protect our board.

the whole team means that he is included.i don't think he was putting the blame on eveyone else.

Actually, he is. He's deflecting a question directed at him and while he includes the whole team, he is deflecting attention from himself. That's the equivalent of eating the cookies in the cookie jar and then telling your mom, "but every ate them too", when confronted about the empty jar.

I agree with DJ that everyone has to grab boards but thats one of his most important responsibilities on a very short "to do" list he has. The kosher thing to do in those situations is to fall on the sword, not deflect at the expense of his teammates. That where DJ should exert most of his energy, grabbing boards.

I think DJ still has a very long way to go to justify his salary. He should concentrate on doing his part. He needs to stop trying to block every shot that is taken, stay home and clean up the rebounding in his area.

is boxing out that difficult?

No honestly I noticed that DJ has a very good ability of blocking guards that are driving past him, he blocked Irving like 3 times from relatively the same spot when he was driving, that's why our players should stop collapsing otherwise there's all those kickout 3s, and if the opponent misses the paint is clogged and DJ is stuck under the rim. I also noticed he gets carried away and tries to block EVERY shot, therefore ends up again under the rim and since the paint is clogged he can't really go anywhere else!

apparently if you are on the Clippers it is. For us random joe intramural/rec league players if we dont box out we dont play. Should be the same on the Clipps

While DJ's guilty of not boxing out at every opportunity, he's the shot blocker, so yes it is the rest of the team's job to help him out with the boards when he's up in the air swatting down shots. We gave up a lot of boards last season while DJ was up in the air, this isn't a personnel issue, it's a coaching issue.

Don't let DJ's shot blocking fool you, he was not good on defense against the Cavs. I also haven't seen him communicate on D that much, that's very important for boxing out.

^ i agree. shot blocking is useless if u constantly leave your man just go for the highlight reel block everytime and your man scores or ends up being guarded by someone smaller which leads to easy baskets. both DJ and BG need to do a better job of being physical inside and boxing out.

The whole team's defense and rebounding the last 2 games was abysmal. Plenty of blame to go around but if you guys want to focus it on DJ, then do as you please.

I don't know, I think most of us talking about DJ are staying within the subject matter but do as you please.

You're absolutely right. My pointing out that putting all the rebounding blame on a single player is too harsh is completely outside the subject matter of this thread roll

Carry on as you guys please, I won't be posting on this thread anymore.

It's a shame, a real shame... I was expecting DJ to be more dominant, meaning more activity and more boards... yes it's everyone's job to grab some boards but it's his job, since he's the biggest and tallest to USE YOUR SIZE.. He should be insulted about his play honestly, because EVERYTHING NEAR THE RIM is HIS HOME... people are intruding on HIS HOME... what gives DJ?

Last year DJ was averaging 10 rebounds? (someone please check that) ... I was expecting him to average like 12 ALONG WITH 4-5 blocks... He's athletic, he's big, he's long.... not many people are built like him.... 6 rebounds doesn't justify that.

I realize it's Novembre basketball....I just hope DJ's improvements come soon, so he can build on his confidence and momentum for the playoffs

Last years PER 36 he was 10.9....this year he's 9.6, not too far off of his LT averages. Couple good games (hopefully starting tonight) and he should be back track.

Thank you sir!

So it's not *THAT* bad... I don't know... I just feel like DJ hasn't given his intensity every minute he's played... @_@

If he doesn't play too much it is because he fouls, so he still has more improvement to do!

One thing that drives me crazy is when CP does something amazing on the offensive end and then either DJ and sometimes Blake, allows some scrub BIG MAN to grab the offensive board and put it up for an EASY putback after the team plays good defense.

DJ and also Blake, failed to protect our glass last year and through the playoffs and it continues this year. After all that experience and an entire off season to prepare, they still fail to the most basic and their prime responsibility.

I'm sorry, but if you fail to box out YOUR guy, and YOUR guy gets and easy board and putback, IT'S YOUR FAULT. The team did their job by forcing a missed shot!!!!

Grabbing boards is one thing, but giving up boards on your end and giving free putbacks is inexcusable. We got lucky we got out of the first round, NO WAY you get the finals that way.

He needs to remember to box out or pack his bags.

It was largely his fault and Blake's fault. The fact that he says its the team's fault is a travesty.

I think that the Clippers are just being lazy and forgetting to do something very basic that all players learn to do a young age.

We're lacking fundamentals in our bigs right now! That's why I was kindaa surprised when DJ was matched!

It's a team effort, just like the lack of energy and focus in the last 2 games, But yes, Griffin and DJ are down off their LT averages and they do need to pick it up.

I still agree that if Blake and DJ don't box out it is their fault they're the ones that should own the paint!

DJ needs to hit that film room and watch lots of tape of Bill Russel, Tyson Chandler & Dwight Howard on how to play help and team defense and be able to put himself in the right position to grab boards....Hell throw tape of Kevin love in there too.

Its a team effort sure but the frontcourt gets the most boards. That is their job and they are most proficient at getting boards. BG and DJ getting only 12 boards together is unacceptable. They should be getting around 20 boards combined.
