Sloan and Kobe? I don't think so. The Malone Stockton twins listened and obeyed. Sloan would bench Kobe if he pulled a Kobe and didnt follow orders.

Guess we'll find out,,what we have learned is coach Kobe didn't get along with coach Potato Head so as all legends in their own minds do,,he had his coach fired. New coach? Whoever will do what his highness wants.

it doesnt matter who they get nash is old, pau is getting worse, kobe is making less of his shots, and that bench is awful. in my opinion i hope they get phil jackson so we can beat them with him coaching. ill be more than happy to send him into his third retirement where he can make appearances in viagra commercials...o doyle rules!

They still have no bench. I am only remotely worried if they get PJAX. D'Antoni won't do anything for them since he does not emphasize defense and run and gun won't work with that old and slow roster. Sloan is iffy. Not sure if diva Dwight would like having Sloan considering how much he hated SVG.

Jackson is our only concern. He will make this team a lot better. Remember when he was hired again by the Lakers in 2005, the Lakers had no business making the playoffs and yet somehow, they won 45 games.

Whjy is everyone scared of Phil coaching that team? The guy underachieved his last year with the highest payroll in the league. He had his 6th man of the year, he had the same players he had now but younger. You guys actually think Phil is going to miraculously change what they have now? They suffer from lack of athleticism, lack of youth, and lack of bench. You can't coach those things. Unless they trade Pau and get some youth, it's pipe dream.

Jezzus, I welcome Phil back with a smile. He's a coach that only coaches what he perceives to be a championship team. He's never coached a team he had to build. He' s never coached a team without arguably, a top 3 player already on the squad. Does anyone here think the Lakers have a top 3 player in their prime? I don't. So if you believe what i believe is true, don't fret. Even if they get him, they have only 3 players that know the triangle offense. So it's not going to be the same offense Phil is used to implementing. I welcome this pseudo-challenge.

I'm not worried either. From his last couple of job interviews, it's clear that he's less interested in actually coaching a team than he is in having a 'Pat Riley' role... the emperor and supreme commander of a franchise.

If he comes in, it'll be as much more than a coach. The lakers are desperate and Jerry Buss will probably give Jackass whatever he asks for. That means neutering Jimbo and Kupcake's authority.

It's a classic power-struggle, with Phil and Jeannie on one side, Jimbo and Kupcake on the other and Jerry Buss stuck in the middle. However this plays out, it'll surely only be the first battle in a long war and Phil will be too busy looking over his shoulder to actually coach a team.

The clown was only the opening act in this circus.

The more I think about it, the less I care who they hire. D'Antoni would be a disaster, so obviously that would be my first choice for the Lakers. Phil has the accolades, but his system is stuck in the '90s. He'd be trying to coach an outdated system in an era of fast-paced teams like us, the Heat, and the Spurs.

There's a reason why his career came to an abrupt end with that second-round exit. Firstly, I think he's forgotten now how tired and burnt-out he was after that year. Secondly, the game has changed. It's sped up. Teams are still going to run all over the Lakers.

Furthermore, the roster is going to really screw over anyone who comes in to coach that team. They have no bench, no shooters, Dwight is the only young cornerstone on that team and he hasn't looked as dominant as he used to, and the rest of the starting lineup is old and slow. I think the Lakers fired the wrong guy. Mitch should have been given the pink slip, not Mike Brown.

Look at it this way:

Brown in his first year, shortened season, had a better year than Phil did in his last year with the Lakers. Phil had a core of players that knew his system for years. Brown didn't have a training camp.

By the way, some Lakers fans are already bringing up old threads where other members were calling for Phil's head. Threads where they wanted Phil and the triangle gone. So now he's a savior? lol, these Lakers fans...

We have to worry about the Lakers now. In fact, we have to take them very seriously. Phil Jackson just knows how to make everything click. When he is coaching, magic happens. In his coaching years, he has won 11 championships, 13 divisions, and 13 conferences. He only works with the best of the best, so you know he only goes after proven veterans. You will never see a rookie play heavy minutes with Phil on the sidelines. He is the Zenmaster, the Zordon that makes the Lakers turn into the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers - always win, never loses. Do you find it a coincidence that when Mike Brown was hired for the Lakers in the lockout season, the Clippers were the better team to watch, even though they were a game away from winning their first ever Pacific Division? Because of the Zenmaster coming back, I'm afraid Lob City will stand no chance against the Lakers this year. I could even make the argument that they may have already won the championship because of that simple coaching change.

It will be quite interesting to see how Vinny Del Negro and the Clippers will fare against arguably the greatest coach of all time. VDN has shown some progress (see the Improvements of VDN thread). We have Chris Paul and Chauncey Billups, the latter our only hope because he's faced them before in the 2003-2004 NBA Finals. DeAndre Jordan looks more comfortable in the post. Our only worry is Blake Griffin. Can the Clippers stand up to Phil Jackson and be able to defeat his Lakers?

Nobody is saying the Lakers team shouldn't be respected. That being saod Phil coming back doesn't guarantee jack and I'm considering putting this thread in the off topic section because it has nothing to do with our team. I don't give a crap who's coaching the Lakers.

The thing that is overlooked is that the Lakers have to get used to a whole different system and a new coach. That could make them more worse than they are.

You're being too nostalgic. Phil is great... Greatest... but in the right situation. He hates playing rookies which means Robert Sacre, my favorite player on their bench, will get less if any minutes. The triangle will be hard to implement mid-season, and it won't suit Nash. & they're still old with no bench! A coach can't fix that.

Magic happens? Power rangers? Already won?

Nice bedtime story, but in the real world he'll have to deal with age, injuries, lack of depth and monstrous egos.

Unless he can find a way to split 240 minutes between 4 players, that team has holes... holes that younger, faster, more athletic teams are going to f*ck.

Let just wait and see who Lakers will hired first before having a heart attack on this. Either Zen Master (which I fear the most) or MD, doesn't matter I don't think they can win in their first season. I feel like DWight will be out because he doesn't seem fond with Kobe as of now.

So what's gonna happen to Steve Nash since they'll use the triangle again? A white Derek Fisher? If that's the case, what a pointless signing it was.

im not worried at all. last i checked, the players were the ones who play the game. they will make the playoffs will phil jackson but they will get exposed in the 1st rd due to their lack of depth. its inevitable. on the other the clips will only get stronger when billups and hill come back. oh and if odom at least gets to 75 percent of what he used to be, the sky is the limit for this team. even if vdn isnt phil jackson.

we can and will. kobe isnt goingto stop missing field goals just because phil is here. is nash suddemly going to turn 26? what about pau? is he miracilously going to improve hos game?in the last yearof his run with the lakers phil was coaching a tired and mentally exhausted team burdened with massive expectations. how is phil gping to reverse the clock and infuse that team with motivation? he cant. this is a young mans league and the lakers dont have what it takes.at best phil will get them the fourth seed, a hard fought first round that will last seven games and a second round exit....oh btw phil hasnt even dealt with a full dose of the clippers...wait till chauncey and hill get in that lineup

Their entire team is old, Phil Jackson would fit right in. They can all rub ben gay over their old ass muscles together to bond in the locker room post games and talk about their erectile dysfunction.

Looks like we won't have to worry about the Lakers playing defense now because they signed D'Antoni for the next 4 years.

I find it intriguing how there are so many Lakers threads on this forum..hopefully Dantoni integrates an offense solely on our old roster...we r not a run n gun team lol.

I am at peace with their pick of going with D'Antoni, I mean he is not a defensive coach, I don't know why they fired their coach to get an offensive coach when their offense was pretty good, their DEFENSE was terrible!
