This season just gets better and beter, Lakers name Mike D'Antoni as head coach, ha ha ha. No, wait.....seriously he is. No bench, old players that's a certain recipe for uptempo sucess. Great news for Clipper fans everywhere. Funny, I was talking to a Laker fan today and told him they beter hope to get Phil if they get D'Antoni there's going to be problems. 2012/2013 Lakers the gift that keeps giving. Next we'll get word that Dwight and Kobe are indeed fighting, and quietly Clips just keep winning

I think we have to give credit where credit is due. Phil wanted the moon, and look at D'Antoni's sucess n NY last year. Knicks were a conender for the 8th spot.

This is a great hire for this team..

Having a bunch of old timers running up and down the court should lead to faster retirement checks..

Mike's system was wearing down Amare and Melo when he was coaching the Knicks. Won't be good for this team.

I'm happy it's not Phil, but let's not downplay D'Antoni here either. He's a good coach who can do more than just run and gun. This team is slow and not good for running, but is still very talented, at least at the top. Remember also that he, with Nash, ran a ton of pick and roll in Phoenix. Should be able to duplicate that to an extent with Nash/Gasol/Howard.

He obviously doesn't fix all their problems(including their bench), but he's still an upgrade over Brown and probably someone I'd take over Vinny. Not a bad hiring for the Lakers.

^ No, actually let's downplay D'Antoni. The only obstacle between the Clippers and their first ever division title is in disarray, but you still manage to find something negative. What a wonderful gift you have.

There's a reason laker fans are depressed at this hiring.

^well first nash has to come back for him to run the pick and roll. for all the talent he has had in the past, he has had trouble meshing egos, and that is something that is abundant in the lakers. plus he had nash in his prime, surrounded by shooters. now nash is pushing 39 going on 40 without the shooters for him to kick out to. oh and i foresee teams fouling howard in abundance if the pick and roll is run through him. is he an upgrade over brown? last time i checked brown took the cavs to the finals. d'antoni best success was getting to the wcf. i guess based on the situation they had in flaker ville, u could say he is.

Alegedly Phil was asking for an @ssload of cash, and it seemed that the Busses must have assumed that they already had him before Brown was let go. Was this a big FU by Phil to the Lakers or did he know that he was getting himself into a dumpster fire so why not ask for the moon

Hmmmmmmm it was Phil's job to turn down...

It was 95% sure he was going to be the coach

And then bam, in the middle of the night, the BUSS runs over Phil to pick up D'Antoni!!

Mike must have really had a nice voice over the phone to just give him the job like that!

I'm liking this BUSS guy...reminds me of an old Sterling

VDN has his flaws, but he is better then Mike D. He is really doing well with bench rotation and I've noticed improvement in the Clips Defense and some new wrinkles in the offense. Why fans just hate him is beyond me. CP3 wanted him Back. Lakers are old and no bench, I bet Howard goes to either ATL or Dallas next year, then they're screwed.

People really underestimate D'Antoni. I don't think he is that good of a fit with the Lakers coaching wise especially if Nash stays injured but he is not a terrible coach. He was a terrible fit for the Knicks because before Lin we had TD, Baron Davis, and MIke Bibby running the point. Heck even Steve Blake is better than those guys and D'Antoni makes even scrub Pgs look good.

Also defense is a non-issue. The Suns were terribad defensively due to having Nash and Amare Stoudemire. With Amare Stoudemire out the Knicks were a top10-top 5 defense being anchored by TC. Dwight>TC.

Anyway I am not worried since the Lakers will be run to the ground by D'Antoni. No depth so unless they fix that they are screwed.

idk if we underestimate d'antoni. the facts show that mike brown has accomplished much more as a coach than d'antoni. at least he got to the finals, albeit with lebron. also, idk if i would venture to say that steve blake than BD. i will say he is much more professional than bd since hes in shape. lol. and about defense, the knicks had athletic and young players to guard the 5 positions. with the lakers, only artest and howard can actually guard someone.

yeah if they had brought in Phil it would have been worrisome, but with Dantoni they dont seem to be building the "dynasty" they had envisioned.

On more important new Clippers are 5-2!!!

I'm not going to laugh on this hiring. If being Clippers fan show me one thing is being humble and never underestimate your competition. Honestly, I think this a great hiring for Lakers. Who run the motor on that team? It's definitely not Kobe Bryant. If Mike D. managed to get Steve Nash going, then their offense and defense would run smoothly which I fear that the most than Kobe hoisting 40 points. I can see why they did that, but if I were them I would have give Phil the key.

Talent wise, it's not comparable. But the age difference between Josh Smith and Pau Gasol is pretty big. The Lakers would have to throw in somebody that is young with an upside in that trade. Like who? Sacre? 1st round pick could do it, but they don't have any picks to trade. LOL!

Dude SERIOUSLY? Lakers have no 1sts until like 2017, and WHAT THE **** KINDA STUPID PERSON(NOT GM) PERSON WOULD TRADE GASOL FOR SMITH? Gasol is almost done Smith hasn't even hit his prime yet! If anything i think the lakers would wanna trade Gasol for multiple players that they can insert on the bench! I don't see anyone who really wants to take Gasol!

And talking about D'Antoni, I'm kinda "relieved" is the best word for the hire. Let's look at some similarities of D'Antoni's recent conquests. NY fired him cause he went on a 0-6 losing streak like in February or March remember? They had Chandler - one of best defensive anchors reminds me of Howard; Amare - kinda similar to Gasol with the same position ; Melo who loves to chuck shots contested ones too - kinda reminds me of kobe! Now those guys from NY were producing better numbers than this old group of Lakers and although they have Nash HE IS OLD, it's showing, I mean he got a knee bruise BRUISE, like what u get when u hit your elbow in the door! Ny had a bench too! i don't see this experiment going too well!

This is bad.

Jackson may have wanted completed control of the Lakers franchise (including banishing Jerry's son Jim from all basketball operations, effectively firing him), but for the Lakers to choose D'Antoni is totally a Clipper reason.

He is the exact same coach who eliminated the Clippers from the playoffs in the 2005-2006 season. This was when they had Elton Brand and Sam Cassell.

All of the moves the Lakers are doing now is to make sure the Clippers get no love, and that they are defeated, plain and simple. Total jealousy.

Expect Houston to be involved since they've been obsessed with gasol. Theyre probably salivating at pairing gasol with harden Lin and Asik. Houston would be the third team in the trade where they'll send out future picks jmho

Mike D'Antoni expected to reach out to fellow USA assistant Nate McMillan as potential defensive assistant, league source tells @CBSSports.

I'm low key celebrating this move by the Lakers. Not a huge D'Antoni fan even when he has the right guys to run his system and he doesn't even have that with the Lakers. This should be very interesting. They'll definitely be better off than they were under Brown, but I still like our chances against them.
