He was never this good in his career to be honest. He will cool off a bit later but I think we will see a career year for him for several reasons.

1) This is the best team he has ever played on. He has Chris Paul and many other quality passers to give him the ball and help him get good looks.

2) Very good chemistry with our team.

3) He said that this was his first time working hard on his game in the offseason. He was relying on talent alone in the past.

Yes he certainly has exceeded expectations- he's playing free and happy out there and it shows. What a weapon he has been. He does force some shots but not really that many- he has so many moves that he gets mostly layups and open 20 footers. He and Bledsoe have been a really devastating combo out there for the other teams. Very few teams have players with enough quickness to guard both of them, especially in the second unit. I would not be surprised to find out that the Clipper second can beat the first unit in practice- maybe 1/2 the time.

^ Even Lebron the leagues best player is going to have some off nights, that's just how the game of basketball is. Even the greatest shooters will go on a slump but I'd still take that great shooter on my team.

Jamal won't have too many off nights but when he does have one, our bench is so deep that we can afford for it to happen. Our 2nd unit can keep up with most teams starting lineups. What a team we have this year! CLIPPERNATION REPRESENT!!!!

i hear some saying he is playing well until he has an off night, but this team has too many weapons for teams to be able to shutdown crawford most of the time. oh and it helps that he committed himself to getting into shape and actually practicing his jumper. wow. im glad the clips signed crawford.

That's a great point. What's his deal... like four years, but the last two our option?

A+ for the F.O. on that one.

Cavs game was an indication of how our main bench scorers, Jcraw and Bledsoe had an off night...it will happen, its a long season. I hope we don't have too many nights of when the team couldn't hit shots when it counts...

It's early but I think I'll eat the crow. I wanted Courtney Lee and Ray Allen over Crawford. He's scoring at a very efficient rate, I don't expect him to keep up the rate, but I still think he'll be more efficient than in his past.

He did indeed make Hollins trip, Hollins wanted to give him another screen after he already set one but he fell off balance after JCross juked the crap out of Allen! And he's not a bad defender! He held Allen really good! WHY IS EVERYONE THINKING HE'S GONNA HAVE AN OFF NIGHT?! He said this the most fun he's had since HIGHSCHOOL! He's gonna be 6th MOTY I love this guy, he finally doesn't have to worry about this year being a contract year, maybe that's why he's playing so good!

Another fluff piece from Markazi... dude is riding our jock these days!

Crawford finds happiness with Clippers Nov 14, 2012 9:01 AM By Arash Markazi

LOS ANGELES Jamal Crawford wanted to be honest with the Los Angeles Clippers.

Although his agent wanted him to take his time, play the field and not make any hasty commitments as a free agent, Crawford knew exactly where he wanted to be, and the Clippers knew exactly where he should be.

"When I came here, I don't know if I should say this or not, but they told me I was their first option at lunch," Crawford said. "And I told them at the same lunch that they were my first option. My agent didn't want me to say that but I was just being honest and we made it happen."

Because they made it happen in the form of a four-year, $25 million deal in July, Crawford has made it happen for the Clippers in the form of his team-leading 20.3 points per game.

On a team headlined by Chris Paul and Blake Griffin, it is Crawford who has scored a team-high 142 points off the bench. It is the highest bench scoring total in the NBA this season, and the most points off the bench in the first seven games of a season since 2007-08, when Jason Terry had 156.

Crawford, 32, said he is having more fun this season than he has had playing basketball since he was in high school, and it shows.

"I'm just comfortable," Crawford said. "I've never felt this comfortable. Knowing I worked at my game and knowing my teammates and coaches have confidence in me, we feel like we can do anything, honestly. I feel like out there, there's nothing that can't be done when you have that confidence from your teammates and your coaching staff. It makes you go enjoy it and that's what I'm trying to do."

Many thought the Clippers would go after Ray Allen in the offseason (and they did, fairly aggressively recruiting him over the phone) but they switched gears after they met with Crawford. In fact, the day before Allen was scheduled to arrive in Los Angeles to meet with Clippers coach Vinny Del Negro and vice president of basketball operations Gary Sacks, the Clippers canceled the visit. They had already found their guy.

"We talked to Ray. I played with Ray and know Ray well," Del Negro said. "He's a great player and a first-ballot Hall of Fame guy but we love having Jamal. We're happy he's with us."

Del Negro and Sacks weren't the only members of the who came after Crawford hard before and after his visit. He got phone calls from Paul, Griffin, DeAndre Jordan and Chauncey Billups. They all wanted to let him know how much he was wanted and really needed for the Clippers to take the next step in their development as a championship contender.

"They told me how I fit in and I saw where their team was and where they could possibly go and I just wanted to be a part of it," Crawford said. "It made perfect sense."

Not even the Clippers, however, could have expected Crawford to play as well as he has. Crawford is the only primary bench player leading his team in scoring this season, and his scoring average is the third-highest among players who switched teams during the offseason, behind James Harden and O.J. Mayo, but ahead of Dwight Howard and Kevin Martin.

Crawford has made his biggest mark in helping the Clippers take and extend leads when he gets on the court. In the past three games against the San Antonio Spurs, Portland Trail Blazers and Atlanta Hawks, Crawford has gone into a tight game and helped push the Clippers to leads of 20 or more points each time. In fact, the Clippers have outscored their opponents by 63 points when Crawford has been on the court. That is the fifth-highest plus-minus among all players in the NBA this season.

"I think there's a moment of truth in every game, honestly," Crawford said. "There's a point in the game where it can go either way and the last three games it has gone our way. We clamped down. It always starts with the defense. We were able to get steals and get easy baskets and that picks everyone's energy up and gets us going."

Crawford hasn't just helped the Clippers gain leads; he has helped close games as well. He leads the league in fourth-quarter scoring, averaging an NBA-high 9.3 points. Crawford also has been efficient from the field, shooting a career-high 50 percent. Entering this season, he's never shot higher than 47.6 percent from the field for a single season.

Looking at the players on the court after practice Tuesday, Crawford smiles when he is asked why he has been so successful this season.

"Now you can't just key in on me," Crawford said. "You have the best point guard in the world right there and another superstar in Blake, DeAndre, who hopefully gets Most Improved [Player of the Year award]. I can go down the list of our team. I usually see a lot of double teams or traps, or whatever but they can't do that because there are other guys to worry about. I'm the fifth, sixth option. Whatever, I don't care. I just go out there and have fun."

The way Crawford has been playing this season, chances are he won't be under the radar for long.

"Shhhh," he said. "Don't tell nobody."

Crawford is having a great season so far.But I am wondering how the rotations are going to be with Billups and Hill.Billups could be back in the next 2 weeks I heard. He would likely take all of Green's minutes but also how many of Crawford's minutes will he take?I think Billups will get the same amount as Butler but it is going to be interesting to see how the minutes get split up.Also I think Crawford will slow down as the season goes on but hopefully he can average 15 ppg. With Harden moving to being a starer,Crawford should easily win 6th man of the year if he can keep playing like he has.

Now they call the guy "ankle bone collector". Dope. 6th Man of the year easy unless VDN screws things up and inserts him in the starting 5 lineup.

^ There are plenty of people who think Vinny's screwing up already by NOT starting Jamal.

And therein lies the fate of today's NBA coach... "fucked if you do, fucked if you don't". That's why I advocate support for him... at least for as long as we're winning. Everyone has their favorite guy who they think should play more, but at the end of the day, team success trumps all else.

Jamal Crawford has definitely exceeded my expectations. Earlier I gave the Clippers a B for getting him. So far I would give the Clips a A- on the Jamal Crawford and a solid A on his Performance. The only person I really thought might of been better was OJ Mayo because of defense and age. Other than that the Clippers chose the perfect person for the team. I am very impressed by Crawford. He is quickly becoming a inaugural part of the team. He has played exceptionally well.

^ I don't fault Vinny if he Starts Crawford or Brings him him off the bench. A case can be made either way. Overall Vinny is doing much better than he has in the past. So at least I have seen improvement. There are areas I still can't understand. But it is a far cry from last year. Overall Vinny has done ok. Better than what I could of said about him. One thing Vinny has to get right is making sure he understands momentum swings. Which was my main Criticism of him last night. He needed to bring the Starters back quicker, the team needed to be a little better on boxing out and also they needed to defend the three a little better. The game plan overall was ok. So not to much to gripe about. The only main thing was leaving the Starters on the bench 2 long towards the end. That's pretty much it.

Repped High Quality Post

It's so crazy to read all these articles about Jamal and to watch him play in every game, and think about how hard I was bashing the guy when I first heard we signed him. He was the first free agent we signed and it made no sense to me for us to go after another aging swingman coming off the worst season of his career, in place of a younger player like Nick Young (who's my favorite player) O.J Mayo or Courtney Lee.

But as free agency went on and we started to sign more and more quality guys like Grant Hill and Ronnie Turiaf, it became obvious what the front office was trying to do. They weren't looking for a bunch of kids looking to make a name for themselves. They were looking for high character veterans who are dedicated to doing whatever it takes to win.

Even before the season started, you could feel a sense of cohesiveness within our squad that you just don't normally see in most teams. There are no egos, just a team. A group of guys who realize that together, they can do something that's never been done before. These guys truly believe in each other, and as a fan, it makes it that much easier for me to believe in them.

8 games in to the season, the vision that Gary Sacks, VDN and CP3 had going into the off-season is finally coming to fruition. There have been a couple of hiccups so far with injuries and weight issues, and there are sure to be a few more down the line. But no matter what happens, I have faith these guys will find a way to pull through.

I was looking at our contratcs and we have a lot of flexibility next year to give cp3 , blake and others longer contracts. Odom, turiaf, hollins, thompkins, leslie, barnes, and green can comeoff the books...of all those mentioned I only want to keep barnes and maybe hollins.

He exceeded my expectations. I thought he was just gonna stop the offense for by jacking up shots whenever he gets the ball, but he proved me wrong. Although he shoots questionable shots, but hey thats how he plays. He's the No-No-No Yes Jamal type of player. I'm so glad we got him

He say that so much that sometimes i think he's just trying to kiss ass, but as i learned more about our roster. I know this dude is for reals. We have the best team chemistry.

not too worried about it because our starters haven been putting up that great of numbers. Once they start playing well then even if the bench cools off we will be good. The crazy thing is the bench hasnt really been hot just getting really good looks mainly because of the disruption and wearing out of the other team on D.

I was so against the signing of Jamal this offseason. I thought Ray Allen, Courtney Lee, and Marshon Brooks were all players that fit our system better. I couldn't have been more wrong. Jamal will a complete superstar. If he is able to continue scoring and playing as he has thus far in the season, he'll be sixth man of the year and should be considered for an all-star team. He's instant offense, and he complements our team very well.

I think all of us were for Ray Allen. Not many people were familiar with JCross or knew what type of an explosive player he can be. More importantly though is the decision to keep him on the bench. JCross is making that bench a scary aspect of our team, and I realize now why VDN doesnt give JC the starting nod at the 2 while Billups has been injured.
