Dont get me wrong, the sensible thing is to wait after the season and make CP3 our #1 target but if i was owning this team id give Matt what he deserves

Honestly what kind of team we would be if we didnt have MATT?

I'd give him about 2-3 mill a year now before a team offers him more.

Matt Barnes game is vital to this team.

no need for Green, Hollins, and Trey next season. who can we resign next season? Not really certain how it all works, but all i know is that this Clippers team is too good to dismantle.

yeah, good amount of money for matt. I think we have to be very wise about this one because despite matt barnes having a career year something in my mind tells me he wont have a season this good ever again. I love matt but theres a reason he has been a career journeyman. He should be retained but anything more than 4 million a year and we should walk away. I definitely want to keep both him and odom 4 million for each of them is perfect

He is a big part of the team but you dont have to pay a player like matt barnes very much money. After the new cba it really hurts the vets who are not stars.

Matt Barnes has probably won us more games than Jamal has, but Jamal is already on a multi year deal so if push comes to shove I would rather have JCrossover.

idk about saying we dont need those guys. maybe trey become expendable, and even hollins. but green has been a good pickup since he is a guy who doesnt hurt you when hes out there. hollins still provides length and size as the 3rd string center. trey hasnt played so idk what is going to happen with him. but i agree, we need to offer barnes a 2 year 6 to 7 mil contract.

Did we just give him a 1 year deal? If so, you guys have to take into consideration this is a contract year and its the only reason he plays like this. He misses wide open shots, OFTEN, he misses layups.... but I will give him his due in the fact he has been doing everything for us of late. He gets rebound which is most important, he plays great D, he helps his guys, he is great doubling, he is a great passer, he is always cutting perfectly, he leaks, and I mean he has been finishing pretty good around the rim the last couple of games.

It is going to be a tough decision but I mean like another poster said I think we should wait until after the season to consider it. By the way, he is perfect for our team which is why he probably is playing as well as he is. Teams like the Lakers tried to use him as a spot up shooter and that is not what Matt Barnes is. We play D, get a stop...and bam...fast breaks are where he shines

I guess what it will boil down to is how much can DTS afford to pa over the luxury tax IF he offers CP3 the money we all believe he will. I would love to see MAtt stick around.

I agree that Green has done really well considering the minutes he's been given. However, one thing that we can look forward to is that we do have a draft pick this year, and it should be used to fill in for one of these guys if we decide not to retain them. One thing is very clear though is that we do need to see Thompkins play to evaluate if we should retain him or not. Cant wait to see what he can do, and on a personal note my wife and I met him in summer league this year, such a good kid.

well idk where thompkins fits. i like the kid, and im sure he could be a stretch 4 without a doubt, however, when he comes back idk if vdn will give him playing time.

I think we could get Barnes resigned for 2-3 Mill. It's true he is playing great for us but also the reason he is playing so well is because Crawford and him have the green light to play their style of basketball.I read somewhere he said when he was on the Lakers if he missed a couple of shots he thought he would be benched, and the Lakers were a slower team so he didn't get to run as much as he would like too. This team is the perfect situation for him so if he is happy he might be willing to take the hit like a lot of vets are doing.

Goodness Gracious brotha. You know they have spell check right? camaraderie. comradity??? That was like half of Dwight Howard/Deandre's free throw attempts. Not even close.

MATT BARNES was THE biggest pickup. For $800K a year??? And LO is getting paid 8 MILLION?

Lamar is playing great. Barnes is playing BETTER.

We have bird rights on either Odom or Barnes, I don't recall which. But whichever one we don't have bird right son, we will need the MLE for that guy.

This guy has been playing lights out. He's a Southern Cal native, this where he belongs. It's a travesty that Hill & Billups are making more then he is for doing nothing. Sterling do the right thing and let this journeymen finish out his career in the city he loves.

Disagree. You don't do anything until Chris Paul signs on the dotted line. Until then you stay put. Barnes is playing great I agree, but you don't want to get stuck with a contract of an older player (32) until you figure out what Chris Paul is going to do and then go about the team that way

Regardless of if Chris signs or doesn't he's a perfect fit for this franchise. He a LA guy, who understands the culture here. Also he fits Vinny system well.

CP3 will re-sign barring some really bizarre first round exit maybe. Barnes is the ideal SF for CP3. Good slasher, pretty good 3 point shooter, good defender, a willing passer, and does not need the ball in his hands to be effective. He has a pretty good all around game and currently he is our 3rd most valuable player. He deserves to get paid assuming he performs at a similar level for the rest of the season.

Who cares if Barnes is a So Cal guy. Did it ever occur to you that Barnes is playing so well because Lamar has struggled all year up until recently, and Hill and Billups are both out?

We knew Chauncey was going to be out, Hill is coming back this weekend probably. Barnes is playing well I will give him that. But our main priority this off season is going to bring back Chris Paul, then figure out what we are going to do with Eric Bledsoe.

My prediction is we go to Lamar and offer him 3yrs and 15mil. And we take the 3mil per year savings and offer it to Barnes, 3yrs, 3mil per. Both seem to LOVE being on this team and in this city. Even with a break out year for both of them, this is about their value on the open market. In any case, neither would sign with a small market team and neither would play for a losing team so it would seem that there is little competition for their services. Essentially lock them both up for the same total price as we're paying this season....And the money is more correctly distributed between the two.

We'll keep them both as long as CP3 wants them here.

No Clipper this offseason gets a contract extension before Chris Paul. Not only does our future on the court depend on him re-signing, but our Staples Center lease (which is expiring soon) could also be on the line.

Top priority is CP3! Next yr we have guarantee money due to DJ, BG32, Caron, Jcross, Hill and Bled. Non guarantee to Trey and Willie. $42 mil guaranteed! Turiaf and Barnes make 854,000! And some of you wanna give Barnes a $5 million raise...crazy. Like I said CP3 is #1 priority and then we worry about surrounding him with role players. I'm sure there are plenty of solid role players who would wanna be on our squad next year for cheap. Just to be a part of the fun.

CP3 might ask for roster moves as stipulations before he agrees to resign. I would guess that he wants to have Lamar and Barnes around for a while.

CP3 is gonna get 5yrs max money but he's gonna want an ETO at 3yrs. He'll get whatever he wants of course....But I think the one thing he worries about is that the day he signs his contract that Sterling will go back to not wanting to spend money on role players. I would expect him to request/demand certain guys are resigned for 3 seasons before he agrees to his own extension.

I suggested in another thread that 3yrs @ 9 mil would be a good number and being a LA guy with a family on a NBA contender for the next few years, that should do the trick.....but I still think nothing should be done until seasons end.

CP3 hand picked players the entire off season. There is no way he doesn't want Barnes back(he was the one who recruited him!) unless Barnes suddenly regresses like crazy.
