So are you trying to say you can't understand? lol

Seriously though, one reason is that it usually depends on the matchups to how comfortable BG is with his shot. He gets timid at times and holds the ball too long and it disrupts the flow of the offense. BG can demand the ball pretty much any time he wants.

The good thing is that he appears to be getting more and more comfortable with the looks on the perimeter.

Ralph and Mike were making comment on how the coaching staff want to establish more of a two man game between Odom and Griffin. I feel that it should also include DJ, and one of those three should be on the floor at all times.

We can't win every game let them bounce back next time, it's better to loss now and learn than loss in the playoff and no more time to adjust.

Memphis is getting throttled by Dallas. That makes me feel a little better.

Just a bit. wink

Now if OKC got throttled that would be a different story.

That was one of the few things I like about Dunleavy is that he commanded the respect of the refs and other commentators. He just didn't know when to shut up and let his players play. I did love when he yelled out the violations before the refs could signal them.

^ true. i dont like vdn's passiveness towards the refs. he needs to grow the balls to go and say to them, hey mofo, call something.

man didnt get to watch the game today but saw some of the highlights... as many mentioned, how the heck did we only get 6 ft attempts? When the bench struggles we really miss that knockout punch. Bledsoe still seems to be hurting and we need Hill and Billups back asap

He walked out of Staples without a limp or any issues. Sounds like he is all good.

We only shot 6 FTs this entire game? How is that even possible?

I hear you but we shouldn't be losing to bad teams at home. Team hasn't played well the last two games and it's disturbing because they had plenty of practice time and rest this week.

You know I used to think that your critcims of the refs were exaggertaed, but no your observations are spot on. When I watched the game the Clippers played against the Lakers there was a bunch of calls that were not made, and the few that were were bogus calls that kept Blake Griffin out of the entire first quarter. I dont know what it is but the refs really hate the Clippers

I'm not VDN hater. I think he's done a pretty darn good job this season so far, however....

I was watching the local Orlando broadcast of the game last night and with about 4 and a half minutes left in the too-close-for-comfort game, they RIGHTFULLY feed Blake Griffin the ball in the post. He's guarded by one defender at first, but a guard (Nelson?) comes around and pokes the ball away from BG and out of bounds.

At this point, announcer Matt Guokas observes that VDN is gesturing to CP3 that he needs to, basically, take over.

And that's it, for the rest of the game BG doesn't get to touch the ball in the post again...for the final 4 minutes.

All hell breaks loose. Our offense starts looking like crap, with Paul trying to do too much or with Crawford putting up shots when he's clearly not shooting well.

How do you not recognize what was working for you all game? Blake shot 15 for 22 and could drive to the basket at will against whoever was guarding him...and when well covered he was nailing 7 assists. HE WAS OUR OFFENSE LAST NIGHT. But it wasn't just him, DJ shot 5-6 because he was able to score at will on Orlando's big men last night also.

Plus, it almost comes across as punishment to BG because he almost turned the ball over on that last play he had in the post. I got news for you, VDN....it happens! You don't think defenders poked the ball away from Pat Ewing or Karl Malone on occasion? You still feed them the ball down low!!! The way he was playing yesterday, BG was likely going to score or find an open guy.

It's no wonder people question whether or not Blake can be a "go to" guy down the stretch. How can he be if he doesn't get to even touch the ball in the post? I know VDN would rather he be a jump shooter, but this guy led the league in points in the paint last year. Crunch time, we need him INSIDE. It can't do much for his confidence if he's dominating the whole game and then denied opportunities by his coach down the stretch of close games.

Don't get me wrong. I get why it's important for CP3 to take over at critical moments. And if it's the last minute of a close game, it's winning time for Paul. But I'm talking about the last 4 minutes of a VERY winnable game.

By the way, another player who actually had a good game and might have contributed down the stretch was Willie Green. I can't always say that, but he was hitting some shots, especially when BG was finding him open. He seems to have developed a surprising chemistry with Griffin, particularly when he cuts to the basket as BG is doubled. Last night was a game that Green deserved to finish, I think...especially when the other guards were not effective.

There were other issues that contributed to such a close game last night. But they aren't the reasons we lost. We lost because VDN didn't recognize what was successful. He didn't understand which of our players out-matched theirs. We lost because he doesn't seem to have confidence in Blake Griffin at crunch time.

Everybody fails from time to time. CP3 will fail. Blake will fail. Yesterday, Vinny failed. It's okay as long as he learns from it. That's my concern. Will he understand that 4 minutes left in a close game is TOO MUCH time to STOP running plays?

Does he now comprehend that 4 minutes is more than enough time for a star like Blake Griffin to make something happen? A star who just gave him 30 points and 7 assists to just 1 turnover the whole game?

If the answer from VDN to these questions is YES, then I'm fine with this loss as a "learning experience" for our coach.

Unfortunately, any timidity Blake may have will not be improved by VDN denying BG the ball down the stretch. That's only going to make it worse.

I agree with Voyeur. Not every game is going to be a blowout, easy win. So how we execute down the stretch is very important if the team wants to go all the way in the playoffs. Every opponent has strengths and weaknesses, and the Magic could not stop Blake inside. And once Blake had the ball down low, he was demanding so much attention that he was giving his teammates great looks if the double team came. So why didn't he even touch the ball the final 4 minutes? That's on our guards and coaching staff, and maybe even Blake to demand the ball.

Against other teams that can kind of neutralize Blake, then yeah we have other ways to win. But against Orlando when we were so successful inside, it was definitely a huge error down the stretch not to go back to inside-out basketball which worked so well earlier.

Exactly...I know there were things the team didn't do well early on to put the game away (although, I have to give Orlando some credit...some of those three pointers were 3 or 4 ft behind the arc).

We're going to have close games...especially in the playoffs. Are we just going to give up, take the loss and lament what we did poorly throughout the game? Or are we going to weather their storm, fight back and execute the plays necessary to pull out the win?

Plenty to be frustrated about with the Clips execution down the stretch but can't take this game away from how Orlando played, Afflalo and Reddick hit some clutch shots with defenders on them. Now we gotta focus on getting 2 out of the next 3, both Memphis and Houston defend their homecourt well, Minny should be a breeze.

Another reason why we should investigate a Bledsoe for Afflalo trade. Good deal for both teams.

the loss against orlando may have had some benefits. rather than coming into the memphis game over confident and relaxed we will be coming into it focused, and hungry to bounce back. we need a tougher mindset going into this road trip.

I've been thinking this for months. Problem is Afflalo makes 7.75 mill. That'll take some serious fillers or non-returning players to get the job done with our cap situation.

Plus, pretty sure Orlando see's him as a cornerstone.
