it was a business move from AEG. right now, the clips have a long sell out streak. they make staples tons of money. personally, i dont like them playing at staples cuz of the whole "flaker" banners

Me too. I hope someday we can get our own LA arena. Or the Lakers build a new arena. It doesn't matter, as long as each team has their own venue.

That's 'cause the other guy posted an old quote from 2004 when the current deal was signed.

Well, this had its good and bad...

The good, of course, is that we don't have to worry about the Clippers being a re-location target for certain cities especially when teams are moving it seems like every few years.

The bad is that we have another ten years of long road trips every February, unless they put the Grammys in the Nokia Theater (or somewhere else for that matter) where they belong.

This is fantastic news. This plus the Kings moving to Seattle pretty much guarantees the Clips are in L.A. forever. The article also mentioned that Sterling is one of the last remaining sole owners of the team. Interesting, I wonder, considering his age and now the son's death, would he go balls out to up the value and sell high. If we get a Hollywood owner, this team could be the new class of the league for a generation.

If we have Chris Paul and Blake signed long term. And we win a chip in the next year or two. The team could be worth upwards of a Billion dollars. 65% of the Kings was just sold for 525M. Clips got to be worth a lot more than that team.

Yeah, the potential new owners better be LA-based, not some rich folks from a region that is hungry for a pro team. I hope the Guggenheim group (current Dodger owners) will be the new owners if DTS decides to sell.

I think the next order of business, at least on the business end, is lock-up a TV rights extension with Fox Sports. Some of you may have heard yesterday that the Dodgers and Time Warner Cable signed a new TV deal to take effect starting 2014, which includes giving the Dodgers their own channel (instead being on the Laker Propaganda Network AKA Time Warner Cable SportsNet). The Clips' deal with Fox is up after the 2015-16 season, and now with Dodgers bolting Prime Ticket after this season, the Clips are the next biggest property on PT, and they need something to keep that channel around.

Actually I'm probably the only one NOT to like this move. I'm one of those who think we should get our own arena and possibly go to OC/SD. Mainly to make our own legacy in our own city for the coming decades.

Sorry, OC or SD is a major downgrade. You're not really an LA fan, are you? That's why losing the LA image doesn't really affect you? We can still make our own legacy without changing cities. If we can have our own part of LA, we'll be good. Look at NY baseball. The Mets have the Queens while the Yanks have the Bronx. The Cubs have the Northside while the White Sox have the Southside. Or the Knicks have Manhattan and the Nets have Brooklyn. Say we had pir own arena in the Westside, our future kids would say, "I grew up in the 310 so I am a Clipper fan."

Seriously, screw moving to another city.

I was raised between OC/LA and am a CLIPPERS fan no matter where they are located. I just want them to establish their own identity as well. Sure they are stealing a piece of the pie in LA but why is it wrong to want them to have their own city? Hell even if it was in LA county I don't care. Take it a step further and even their own arena in LA city, that's better than sharing one. Imagine less brutal road trips in January too due to not having to host all the concerts, awards shows etc? We would always be the main event.

I ain't rooting for a San Diego team. Those people hate LA so much that I wouldn't swallow my LA pride for that move. As for Anaheim, I don't know. I hate both of their pro teams. Since you said you grew up in the OC, I guess you don't mind. But I do. I grew up in the 213, in the city, not a suburb. How many of us here are actually from LA?

Naw I've lived in LA too as I said. Regardless.. we need our own arena even if it's in LA. It just feels cheap to share an arena with multiple sports teams.

no from what I understood, the Kings team is worth 525M, but only 65% of it got sold, so like $340M.

Honestly call me a weird guy but I'm almost scared for the day Sterling gives up ownership and here's why. There is always the risk that a hands own owner comes in and tries to break up the team (like Pera is doing to the Grizzlies now). Sterling is the opposite and almost completely stays out of the way of the front office which is a much lesser evil to me. The only better owner type would be one who passionately loves this team and has motivations in winning above money. Sterling is the next best thing though.

Lakers should move to Sacramento since their fan base has no problem claiming championships from Minneapolis. The new sac lakers fans wouldn't waste anytime bragging about 16 championships that thru have no part of

I do find it strange the Lakers haven't had discussions to build their own arena. Honestly it'd make sense, or even our team to have it's own separate stadium. The Kings, Clippers and Lakers all play at the same place. That's gotta suck to work there to have to change everything over.

I'm not saying the Lakers move out because it's our arena and town now, and that the Staples Center colors on the outside basically compliment our team, I just think a team as BIG as the Lakers would have it's own arena built somewhere in LA, or we'd just move to our own arena in LA somewhere.

And if were going to be jerks, the Lakers should move somewhere where there are actually lakes.

I'd rather the owner spend money getting quality players into the luxury tax than building an arena.

We can always ask the city and taxpayers to build an arena...

Sarcasm.
