Grizzlies are finalizing a deal that would send Rudy Gay to Toronto for Ed Davis and Calderon. Now on paper in terms of value this seems fair but when you remember that Davis will get hardly any playing time behind Gasol and Zbo.. and that Mike Conley is the starter and Calderon will be the bench player.. it seems like the Grizzlies get weaker yet again.

The benefit of this for the future is that the Grizzlies are basically going into a partial rebuild mode already and throwing in the towel with the core they have. Now all we gotta worry about really is OKC in the next few years. Spurs are still great but will keep getting older and older. Lakers and Mavericks have dropped off a ton. Nuggets are overrated and while good, aren't a serious threat for WCF IMO.

The Clippers future is looking better and better, especially if we can move Bledsoe for a SG/SF of the future.

Now rumor is Calderon will immediately be traded, likely for Vince Carter. Basically the only motive Memphis has is shedding salary cap which is good for OKC and the Clippers.

Nice! Also just saw a rumor on ESPN insider that Pacers want to target Bledsoe for Granger! Would be great! Get it Done!

I would trade Bledsoe for Granger, no fu**ing question. I've been wanting Granger for a long time. Do Bledsoe+Butler for Granger and one of their young pieces like Stevenson.

I'm a Clipper fan & a UNM Lobo Alumni so Granger would be a dream for me! He works out at my gym in Reseda in the offseason with Don McClain training him too!

Bledsoe for Granger makes more sense in the summer when we can let Barnes and Odom go after this season, plus we need Bledsoe this season. I also want to see how he does after recovering from injury. He's in his contract year next season so that's a small bonus. All depends if Indy will give him up for a young PG, salaries aren't even close to matching so Clips need to offer something else, maybe sign and trade Barnes? Butler off the bench will certainly help maintain our depth after losing Bledsoe, Barnes, and Odom.

As for Memphis, they'll probably hang on to the 4 or 5 seed, maybe switching with GSW, but they're definitely out of the contender discussion by trading Gay, though one can argue they weren't really in it except for the start of the season. The way we beat Memphis this season though, it's really hard to say they're a threat like they were last postseason... I've always felt OKC and SAS are still the teams to worry about all season long.

Another thing I love about Granger is he's a fiery guy who won't put up with cheapshots to go with Matt Barnes. He's been in a ton of scuffles, including famous ones with Lebron.

Especially at 1/10th the cost.

Personally, I'd like to keep the current roster intact for the rest of this season. Taking on $14,000,000 for next year before we even see if Granger is 100% just sounds silly.

In the summer, if they still want Bled and are prepared to take Butler's $8,000,000 expiring... THEN, I'd listen.

All of this. We're in good enough shape at the SF position that we don't need to risk any shake ups during the season, especially when it would result in leaving a gaping hold at back up PG spot.

I don't think you can right off the Spurs so easily. Yes they are getting older but somehow I get the feeling that Pop will just fit new guys into he well oiled machine/system.

And also, with Grizz aquiring Tayshaun Prince and Austin Daye in this deal, I think they did pretty well. I don't see much drop off from them this season.

No backup pg kinda scares me... Granger would be nice... But I'd say sometime during the summer...

Only sad thing about getting Granger is that we have to get rid of Bledsoe when we could've had Granger over Korolev... FAAACK!!!

Grizzlies getting Tayshawn Prince+Ed Davis for Rudy Gay basically. Calderon going to Detroit. Price has declined pretty fast this year and Davis will hardly play behind Z bo+Gasol.

The deal might actually be a different one.

Hoopsworld say "While the official trade hasn't been announced, it sounds like the Raptors will acquire Rudy Gay and Hamed Haddadi, the Grizzlies will acquire Ed Davis, Tayshaun Prince and Austin Daye, and the Pistons will acquire Jose Calderon."

I just posted that and it is that deal. Nonetheless... Grizzlies trade their best all around player for declining, old Prince and a backup PF and SF. Daye is a pretty bad player, Davis won't play a lot.

NP Silasie, my fault. When I made this thread the Detroit angle wasn't a part of it yet.

I really really hope you don't really think that Gay is the best overall player on the Grizzlies. Forget about the best overall player. He is a debatable 3rd best player this season; in fact, not even debatable Conley is the clear cut 3rd best player on the Griz this season. The fact that the Grizzlies went deeper in the playoffs without Gay just goes to show how valuable he really is. Not very valuable at all and this season he has been a net negative on offense.

Anyway the Griz really did a great job getting rid of a max player that does nothing on either sides of the floor. Gay is an average defender that does not fit well with the Griz and has been abysmal offensively this season. In the short term this might make the Griz marginally better but a lot better in the future since they got rid of an overpaid above average player that was having one of his worst seasons ever.

I only see the Griz improving as a positive for us. We match up extremely well against them. They can help of get rid of the pesky Spurs, GSW or Thunder in the playoffs since they seem to match up well against those teams.

Grizzlies got someone to take the average over paid Gay off their hands and Toronto traded 2 of their best players...wow. Prince and Daye will replace what Gay was producing at a better bang for buck. The young Davis should play for them. He's coming into his own. Very good deal for Memphis. Detroit got the pg they've been coveting. Raptors got screwed.....can't wait for that trio of Gay, DeRozan and Bargnani to be on the court together....ugh.

^ I feel bad for Raptors fans. The Raptors FO doesn't care about winning since they are very profitable whether their team is good or not and the GM Colangelo is arguably the worst GM in the nba.

If there was an all nba overpaid team the Raptors would probably have the most players.

SG: Demar Derozan

SF: Rudy Gay, Landry Fields

PF: Bargnani

grizzlies lost gay ( which is a positive for both basketball reasons and financial reasons), and gained prince, ed davis, and austin daye ( another positive). it's a double win for memphis

^Exactly. They got better especially in the long run. People need to stop acting like Gay is a star cause he is not and never has been especially not this season and he is a terrible fit too.

memphis might be better now. even detroit may have gotten better. toronto became slightly better, but at an expensive cost. memphis is dangerous now, because their bench is better now. ed davis is a good young player, and so is austin daye. their bench is much better than it was a week ago. yes tayshaun is declining, but hes solid. detroit has a very good, true pg now. they can now move brandon knight or stuckey to the 2. plus calderon is an expiring contract. toronto will now have lowry running the show, with derozan, gay.

If only Minnesota and Charlotte were also involved with Memphis in a Gay-Love trade, one of the team would have gay love session daye and knight as a starting 5.

So what is Detroit gonna do with all of their pgs? Stuckey, Calderon, Knight, Bynum?

well knight and bynum arent true pg's. they are more like combo guards. and calderon is a FA at the end of the year.

We should sign him to back up CP. Let's face it, we need a solid playmaking backup PG. CP will miss at least 5-7 games a season.

Calderon gets paid 10 mil a season. He's a starting pg, not a bench pg. So Detroit wanted to make a salary dump? Who are they gonna get this off season? Not that many free agents(that would want to go there)

Per Eric Koreen on Twitter and rotoworld website, Rudy Gay is not due in until tomorrow afternoon. He will not play tomorrow night.

We better beat Toronto! As long as we get the W, I will be happy. Any wins on the road is good.

Calderon is a expiring contract they wanted him for that. They will let him walk after this year clearing 10 million off the books. They were smart to pull this off. They are building for the future and prince should get to play for a playoff team.

Calderon is a much better PG than anyone on the Pistons roster. Stuckey is a SG in a PG's body and has regressed. Brandon Knight mind as well be a carbon copy of Stuckey.

Will Bynum is actually a serviceable PG but not a starting PG.

Yea Calderon is much better even if his defense is iffy. WAY better playmaker and passer than any of them and a very capable shooter. If I were the Pistons I would try to dump Stuckey and have Calderon as my PG.

Yes Calderon is old but his play hasn't regressed at all and his game does not rely on athleticism. Brandon Knight has little potential. Will be a 6th man type of player at best and is a terrible playmaker.

The Pistons future right now is Drummond(a beast) and Greg Monroe. That is one deadly frontcourt.

Agree. I think Jose stays. He'll be a big plus to the those 2 young studs. Detroit is heading in the opposite direction of Toronto....up.

I agree. Before the draft I said whoever doesn't pick Drummond will regret it, he'll be the best center in the league in 2-3 years. With calderon there assisting and playmaking, he will elevate monroe and drummond to new levels.

Grizz lost two high-scoring wingmen in less than a year. I always knew they were only gonna keep either Mayo or Gay, but never thought they'd lose both.
