Dream come true if this is legit. Heard this on ESPN and checked a few sources online. Not home atm so can't post any links as of yet but were a dark horse candidate from what I hear to nab Smith. Salaries are going to be rough to match but Bledsoe is our key player we trade. I'm imagining Odom and/or Butler is involved as well.

I'd love this trade if we could get Korver back, or Harris if he can remain healthy. However, thats a lot of salary to take back and Smith is more than likely a rental. Forget Smith's attitude, Chauncey was supposed to retire rather than come here and we weren't supposed to get Chris Paul. Smith needs to be on a great team. If he's on a championship contender I guarantee he wises up. Fills a giant need at the 3 spot.[/left]

People are so against it but Smith is shooting 39 percent from deep this year and could easily play SF for us. He could also play PF and occasionally C. I'd do a Bledsoe package for Smith... only issue is re-signing him.

Clips have no need for Smith. He's a power forward that wants to play like a small forward. With Griffin on the team there's no need for him. He's also going to command a max salary, which he's not even close to deserving. He thinks he's much better than he actually is.

are the clippers going to win a chip with josh smith? trading for him would be shoving all in.

griffin, paul, jordan and smith would be a great defensive line up with an atrocious FT %

Don't think this is happening and I'm ok with that. I don't see Smith as a great fit.

LAC have no plans to deal EB or DJ. Sacks said he may do a small one. other than that. NO TRADES!

Brooklyn wants Josh Smith. Let's facilitate.

Brooklyn: Deandre Jordan and Josh Smith

Hawks: Eric Bledsoe and Kris Humphries

Clippers: Brook Lopez

Sprinkle in draft picks where necessary.

Lopez is a worse rebounder than DJ. No thanks.

After the accolades Dr Buss is getting from like everywhere,,I am assuming DTS is seeing these and wants to be remembered in the same way as an owner, albeit his time is shorter to make his peace with ,,,well everyone including us,,,after okaying a lot of bogus trades in the past. I think no trades (or a small one without any of our starters going) happen because this team believes in themselves and he believes in this team and CP3.

But I am never right.

the clippers don't need lopez either. he doesn't rebound well, he's not that good of a defender. all he does well really is score.

Marc Stein

From ESPN

Hawks seem determined to deal Smith

"The Atlanta Hawks have convinced numerous teams that they're definitely trading Josh Smith this week, largely because they see the unpredictable lefty as a virtual lock to leave them in free agency this summer. So ... Destinations? One team close to the situation consulted Monday night predicted that the Nets would ultimately land Smith via a three-way trade ... Another team pinpointed the Phoenix Suns and Milwaukee Bucks as the strongest contenders to win the Smith sweepstakes. ... NBA front-office sources told ESPN.com on Monday that the Boston Celtics have, indeed, registered their interest on the Smith front, with the caveat that they also remain highly interested in the Clippers' Eric Bledsoe. Yet a Boston deal for Smith, sources said, would almost certainly have to be built around Paul Pierce,"

I'm not so sure. DJ is no Lopez, but I think that he could excel alongside Deron Williams in the pick-n-roll game.

Lopez's game is predicated on low post isolation whereas DJ can run the floor. DJ's a better blocker and rebounder (I know, crazy, right?).

Considering that Brooklyn already has 2 players that can create their own shot (Williams and Johnson) and a slasher with a decent mid-range game (Crash), I don't think they need a ton of points production from their center. That is, unless they're going to admit that one of those three players isn't worth their contract (HINT: None of them are).

If you add in Josh Smith as their starting 4, you have an incredibly scoring-capable 5 man lineup where all DJ has to do is anchor the defense, clean up the glass and catch lobs from Williams. Kind of like what he does now, except that he'd probably play in the 4th.

I don't really think the Nets lose out with this trade. As a matter of fact, I think they upgrade their starting lineup.

As for Lopez, he'd be perfect for us (obviously). Blake can pickup the slack on the rebounding end, but the guy has a nasty midrange shot and can run the screen-and-pop with CP3 while Blake jockeys for position on the block or slashes to the rim.

Oh yeah, and Vinny would probably play him in the 4th.

You people do realize that Josh Smith is a SMALL FORWARD who HAs to play PF on a team that has no real Center right? Al Horford is a true PF having to play C because the Hawks are idiots.

Smith is and always will be a PF. He plays the 4 because he has to, but can play both positions really well. Whether it's Josh Smith or Paul Millsap, it's a 4 month rental and that's it. Chauncey and Hill are probably on the verge of retiring, and this team is only going to have both of those guys once as I doubt they both come back next year.

Rocking out a starting 5 of CP3, Chauncey, Smith, Blake, DJ with Crawford, Hill, Barnes and possibly Zaza Pachulia or Kyle Korver off the bench as your first 4 out there is pretty damn awesome and a lot better than what we currently have.

Butler is a fine player, but not going to give you 33-40 MPG in the playoffs at the 3 that Smith can do. Smith also can play incredible defense, get steals, blocks boards, pass and shoot the 3. We will be playing Griffin and CP3 almost 40 a night most playoff games, to have another All Star out there rocking out 38-40 a game with a big amount of playoff experience isn't a bad thing to have.

We'd also have some cap space next year pending we don't sign Smith ( which I doubt we will ) to go out and reload the team.

As much as I'd love to wait on Bledsoe and deal him in the summer, we may not get a better chance than Millsap or Smith in the summer. Bledsoe makes pennies compared to these players, and unless we move Bledsoe AND Butler in the summer for a top shelf player, we'll be stuck trying to move Bledsoe for a draft pick and a lower salary role player.

Call Josh Smith a small forward all you want, but he's not. At least, he's not a small forward that would fit our offense. Our team is based off the Chris Paul/Griffin/Jordan pick and roll--and for that offense (or any offense) to work, you need spacing. Josh Smith cannot shoot--a big part of why he has made the move to the power forward position. Having Smith out there with Griffin and Jordan would absolutely kill our spacing and would completely clog the interior. Not to mention he can't shoot free throws. Having 3 subpar free throw shooters in the starting lineup isn't so fun either.

He might improve our defense, but even a lot of his defense is better on the interior, not the perimeter, where he would playing if he were the 3. So it basically is a terrible fit all around.

I don't see Josh Smith being a good fit for us. He is not a good shooter like many of you guys have said and he's always been a little overrated to me.

You forget one thing - Josh Smith is actually much better defender than any forward we have. Not to mention the argument "he can't shoot" is moronic - the guy shoots 36% from deep, which is basically what Crawford does for us. He is an amazing combo forward and the only reason I would not trade for him now is the fact that he would be gone in the summer...no matter how good we are, since he is greedy and has too high of opinion about himself. He will seek a max deal and will probably get it from a mediocre team, which will never contend and in 2-3 years he will push for a trade to a contender...that's his NBA story to me!

this can turn into something good, if we arent interested in josh smith and hawks are willing to trade him for bledsoe, how about we use him in order to get a player that we need how about a 3 team trade clippers get kirk hinrich and loul deng, hawks get carlos boozer and eric bledsoe and bulls get josh smith and caron butler.

Perhaps because 2 years ago he was coming off a 21 PER season, and this season he's playing around a 17.8 PER (which is not that far off of DeAndre Jordan this year, for context).

Smith isn't looking as good as he used to. And he's on a contract year, thinking he's a max player when he's not. Not thank you.

i dont know why everyone is so fixated on a 3 pt shooting small forward, i beleive the mavs won a championship with shawn marion at the 3 and everyone knows hes not an efficient shooter beyond 10-15 feet. Josh smith bring us another big body, a better defensive presence, rebounding

I like Smith a lot but not for this team.He has a bad attitude, wants a max contract, and won't want to be the 3rd option on our team.I know we can't keep Bledsoe long term but I rather try to get something back for him that we can actually build with,I don't want to give him up for a rental. The Jazz like Hayward but I think they will be willing to give him up for Bledsoe. If that option is not there I personally would try to get KG and Bradley from the Celtics for Bledsoe and DJ but not sure if the Celtics are willing to split with Bradley.

I've explained numerous times why Josh Smith is a bad fit (terrible shot selection, wants to be wildly overpaid, bad attitude, uncoachable) so I'm glad the front office doesn't want him.

I'm hopeful that the Rondo for J Smoove deal happens because it likely takes ATL out of play for CP3 (Not that I think he is leaving as of now), unless they just planned on flipping Rondo for something else.
