AT Thunder-Clippers Preview By JEFF BARTL Posted Mar 02 2013 9:55PM There's little argument the Los Angeles Clippers are serious championship contenders, and their recent surge - especially the dominance during it - shows their potential to accomplish that goal. The Oklahoma City Thunder may need to improve their game on the road if they plan to make another run to the NBA Finals. Los Angeles seeks a fifth consecutive victory while dealing Oklahoma City a fourth straight road loss in Sunday's matchup of division leaders. The Clippers have been on a roll since Chris Paul returned from a bruised right kneecap and have won eight....

Sidenote-

Blake & DJ were at the UCLA game tonight,

CP3 flew back to Wake to get his jersey retired, &

J Cross flew to Seattle to watch his highschool win a b-ball championship.

Found all that interesting... hope everyone is well-rested tomorrow. Important game.

we need to contain durant and westbrook. we have to hold them under 50 pts combined. if we do this, we beat them easily.

Westbrook's worst career averages are against us. He doesn't worry me. It's Durant who this year and last year we are having trouble containing after shutting him down his first 3 years. Hill NEEDS minutes tomorrow or we are in big trouble. Refs baby Durant and Barnes will likely foul out and Caron is a step slow at this point to consistently guard him. Hill is the key.

^ I think they'll all get a shot at the stick-insect.

For me, it's less about WHO defends him and more about HOW they defend him. We cannot put him at the line every time he goes up with a shot.

They are on the cusp of breaking an all-time NBA record for team FT%, so as well as 2 points being a virtual lock and getting us out of our normal player rotations with foul trouble, slowing the game like that will completely blow our own transition offense.

Don't let him drive. Play off him, single-coverage without fouling and live with his jumper... he'll get a lot fewer calls outside the paint and I don't want to get burned for 20 or 30 points by wide-open Ibaka baseline 12-footers or corner 3's from Martin and Sefalosha off of drive and kicks.

And on the other end, go at him like a train... he gets petulant when the tweets go against him. That's his biggest weakness.

I notice every single fu**ing time we play OKC Griffin is playing through foul trouble and I'm sick of it. Their bigs are allowed to play as physical as they want but Griffin isn't.

I never hated the Thunder that much before but now they annoy the sh*t outta me. KD is turning into such a whinny b*tch and It seems as if KD, Russ, and KMart shoot 60FT's a night even though they basically flop their way to the line.

OKC is 15-12 vs +.500 teams.. we are 20-11. Pretty damn impressive by our team. Basically OKC really beats the crap out of bad teams more than anybody else.

Hopefully we can play through the rigging today. This team is going to need to ignore the refs, which is concerning, because sometimes biased reffing makes them lose focus. Otherwise, just let Durant get his stats and shut down everyone else.

I'm not the best with math.. I need some help understanding something. Why will we have the two seed although we will be a fraction of a percentage behind OKC when it comes to win percentage? I thought rankings are 100 percent based on win percentage?

Yep, we only trail the Spurs with wins against PO or + .500 teams. Could be tied after todays win. Smile

Clippersfan86 - ultimately, everything is based on win percentage. However, during the season, some teams might have played quite a few games more or less than each other.

Because of this, sometimes "win percentage" and "games behind" don't match up. To take an extreme example, lets take an extreme hypothetical situation.

Team A - W50 L10

Team B - W48 L12 - GB...2

Team C - W30 L0 - GB...5

Even though Team C has a 100% winning percentage, the fact that they have only played 30 games, means they are several games behind.

Teams are usually ranked in terms of win%, so Team C would be ranked in 1st place.

If we win today, we will be ranked behind the Thunder, despite being "half a game" ahead of them.

It's explained here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Games_behind

Thanks for explaining this man. Thing is ESPN/NBA.com are both saying we would have the 2 seed. Is that accurate or is seeding 100 percent based on win percentage?

I think you're right. OKC should still be the 2 seed even if we win. They just haven't checked the math!

I just read an OKC article about today's game and they also said we take the 2 seed if we win. Dang the writer also predicted this score.

Prediction: Los Angeles Clippers 109, Oklahoma City Thunder 98.

Clippers in a blowout. I agree with this though. OKC has been bad on the road vs good teams this year.

Okay somebody else just also told me why. Kezmic you were on the right track... although 90 percent of the time or more higher win percentage= better seeding this is a rare instance where the Clippers have played a whopping 3 more games than OKC which messes with the win percentage. Clippers WILL have the 2 seed for sure.

I don't think they have it wrong as far as current standings. I believe they rank everyone by the GB column until the end of the season when everybody's played 82. Bottom line... we have to win today and lose 2 fewer games than OKC between now and April because they own the tiebreaker.

Like you said it's basically just placeholding for us unless we can make up more ground on OKC the last two months.

^ Yup. They'll leapfrog us just by playing one more game - win or lose. We won't be a "true 2".

Be fun to see how they react to looking up at us though... particularly going in to a desperate lakers on Tuesday.

Wait so let's say we win today. OKC loses their next game again they will STILL have a better record/seeding? If so that sucks lol. Basically means we are actually the 3 seed despite the rankings... it would be more of a formula anomaly in that instance.

^ It is what it is... they have a few road games to catch up on. If we handle business on our end, we have a great chance of taking the 2 for real.

We just have to win today, 2 or 3 seed isn't the biggest issue today because as you said.. we still have time. The bigger issue is we can't let OKC think they own us going into the playoffs as we have a good chance of facing them at some point. We need to dominate them on national TV and keep it fresh in their minds that we can beat them any night. Not to mention our guys need a huge win like this after getting blown out in their last 3 games vs contenders after a near perfect start vs contenders early in the season (it was like 9-2 at one point vs contenders).

Man.... we should have freaking signed Chris Andersen. Dude is a huge upgrade to Turiaf and Hollins this year for minimum.

Tax issues... staying under this year gives us 3 full years of "dollar-for-dollar" for when CP3 re-signs... smart business.

I mean before we signed one of those guys. Not sure why teams idiotically paid this guy no mind. He's been a big time role player for years.

Also wish we had Battier over Butler. He's become the most lights out corner 3 specialist in the entire NBA and is still fantastic defensively.

No need for "Heat envy"... we have a pretty good team, too. If LeBron were just a little more mortal, we'd probably have the better record.

I for one wish we had Tyson Chandler instead of DJ. We had our chance last year and blew it, sadly.

Actually Chandler while an upgrade... isn't possible. You know he signed for like 15 mill a year right? We didn't have that kind of cap. Although...

CP3

Billups

Battier

Griffin

Chandler

would easily be title favorites. I bring up Battier because we stupidly didn't pursue him despite the fact that him, Prince and Butler were all available the same summer two years ago. Prince wanted to stay loyal to Detroit and did... we pursued Butler but should have went after Battier first and I always felt that way. It's more evident now when I see Battier play.

WTF? Magic usually is right about us but he just said Westbrook is a matchup problem for us? Does he know Westbrook has a CAREER 35 percent shooting percentage against the Clippers in a whopping 17 games? This is the biggest reason we need to win. To prove the haters wrong. Can't keep getting blown out on national TV vs elite teams like we have the last 3 times.

Sucks that we don't get to play for a season split with OKC.

4 games against them last year in a truncated season, but only 3 in a full season this year when it was obvious the teams would be in a dogfight.

Bravo, NBA schedulers roll

Maybe, but I don't think so... most also assumed a big drop-off from OKC after letting Harden go. I know he was traded after the schedule was made, but everyone saw it coming.
