I certainly can't judge CP3 in a scale of ALL Time Greats because i didnt really start watching basketball until the 90s.

How do you guys think Cp3 fair against the 90s point guard?

vs. Gary Payton- Last known lock down defender in the point guard position. In his prime, he guided the Seattle to the Finals.

Winner- Payton. too tough and big for CP3

vs. John Stockton- The most underrated point guard in my opinion. He doesnt have a killer cross over but the guy can run a team. Also great shooter, and underrated defender. Led Jazz to the Finals twice

Winner- Tie.

vs. Kevin Johnson- Closest point guard i've seen who i can compare KJ to is a buff and in shape version of Baron Davis. Led Phoenix to the finals.

Winner- CP3. I thnk Cp3's IQ can slow down KJ's athleticism.

Penny Hardaway- Tall, Rangy, and likes to post up. Yikes bad match up for Cp3. Winner- Penny

Mark Price- Great shooter but not as athletic or great in running a team. Winner- CP3

Mark Jackson- One tough SOB. He's like a charles barkley of point guard constantly backing down guards until he's close enough to shoot. Underrated as an assist man. 3rd overall in the all time list.

Winner- toss up. Can't get over the fact that Jackson was notoriously physical when a smaller guard plays against him and how cp3 struggles against big guard.

Tim Hardaway- Run TMC and also known for his killer cross over. However, couldnt do anything with the heat during his prime.

Winner- CP3

Jason Kidd- Although he hit his prime in the 2000, he kinda got started in the 90s so I am gonna add him here.

Winner- Toss up for me since kidd never really learned how to shoot until after his prime. But the way he guided the lowly nets to two trips to the finals is still amazing.

With that said, if cp3 played in the 90s, I dont think we'll be talking about him as an all time great. Let's get realistic, the only competition he had in 2000 was deron williams. Another perennial first round exit just like CP3. The Point guard class really drop in 2000 compared to the 90s

On a side note how incredible was the amount of talent the NBA had in the 90s. Think about it so many teams from that era would be the favorite to win it all in todays game. Just imagine those guys getting to play with the NBA rules today and how much of a advantage the offensive players have nowadays.

CP3 is better then everyone except maybe Gary Payton and John Stockton. If we're talking about 1 vs 1, then I might change some choices. But because basketball is a team game, I only have Payton and Stockton ahead for now.

The great ones can can shine in any era and as a great player the future HOF'r is better than anyone on that list except Stockton and it's very very close....and all the numbers prove it.

Payton's career number dropped off cuz he stayed too long trying to win a ring. hes so good defensively that he guards MJ and gives him fit

cp3 stats is kinda inflated too. in the 90s teams averages 90 points in per game. It's kinda rare to see team average 100+ point a game

career wise you're right. but iam also looking at their prime. A Prime penny went to the finals. cp3 is no longer in his prime and the farthest he's been is the 2nd round

You have a point if you're talking only in prime. But Penny's career/prime was too short.

stockton was the best pg of all time. not flashy, but excellent shooter, incredible basketball IQ, hell of a defender and rugged. oh and his passing was top notch. i think cp3 would have had his hands full with many of the point guards of the 1990s.

I'd still take Magic..just as good if not better pg and could play 4-5 positions.

Cp3 would have had his hands full just as the other pg's would have had their hands full with him. Razz

Whether he played too long or not (didn't hurt the 40 yr old Stockton any) Paul is the better pg.

magic beats stockton due to his size and ability to play several positions. but in terms of running a team, id take stockton. but cant go wrong either way. i agree with cp3 giving them problems, but the fact is that pg's like Kevin johnson and penny hardaway would have given cp3 fits.

People tend to forget CP3 can score over 20+ points a game, and is a terrific shooter all over the court. CP3 would have been just fine in the 90's. CP3 is also a great defender and an elite passer. He's one of the most complete PG's of all time easily.

For me,,Magic was the best PG and overall player in history when you look at a guy that could and did play all 5 spots. But minus the "overall" part, I put CP3 as perhaps 2nd or 3rd best trying to decided between him and Stockton for 2nd place. To me , with his refuse to lose attitude, CP3 is Magic 2.0,,,the new NBA version of a PG. CP3 blows me away with the way the handles the ball, it seems like he could be picked off every time but no one ever (or rarely) does. And his cross over is so fun to watch.

It's the NBA. ANYONE can score 20+ point a game but averaging or doing it in a consistent basis is another. CP3's days of averaging 20+ a game is over

Paul may be the better pg but how would Paul match up with Payton.

I dont have any doubts that Payton wont have a problem posting up Paul and scoring all over him while I have a hard time picturing Paul scoring against the man who defends MJ

Its a moot point anyway since it will never happen. Go with who you THINK is better. Razz

You left out the best pg of that time, Magic Johnson. As much of a fan i am of CP3, i don't think he is half as good as Magic was. Magic was a better shooter, had size, good defender, and probably one of the best [ if not the best] passers in NBA history.

Magic was not a better shooter his shot was pathetic from the outside. He scored inside with his size. He never had a shot it got better toward the end of his career but it was still below average.

Magic the better player not the better shooter

CP3 will be better than all of them except maybe Stockton.

Anyway head to head matchups are pretty pointless. Basketball is not a 1v1 game and explosive PGs are typically contained by team defense not 1v1 defense.

How CP3 would fair would depend on the coach he has and his teammates.
