VS

Bucks-Clippers Preview

By NOEY KUPCHAN

Posted Mar 05 2013 7:18PM

The Los Angeles Clippers had been rolling along before coming up short against one of the NBA's best teams over the weekend.

While they might normally like their chances of getting back on track with a visit from Milwaukee, the Bucks are starting to hit their stride.

The Clippers aim for a 12th home win in 13 matchups against the Bucks, who look to extend their winning streak to a season-high five Wednesday night.

Sitting comfortably atop the Pacific Division, Los Angeles (43-19) had won eight of nine before falling 108-104 to Oklahoma City on Sunday. Chris Paul had 26 points while Blake Griffin and Jamal Crawford added 20 apiece for the Clippers, who erased a 19-point deficit but couldn't keep up down the stretch.

Not including two losses to the Thunder, Los Angeles has gone 18-2 over its last 20 home games.

"Hopefully we can use this as a barometer to tighten some things up," coach Vinny Del Negro told the team's official website. "No one is going to feel sorry for you. You've got to get some good work in, get ready for Wednesday and then move forward."

The Clippers, who cruised to a 111-85 victory at Milwaukee on Dec. 15, have won 11 of 15 in the series.

Milwaukee (30-28 ), though, could have a chance to snap those woes if its recent play is any indication. The Bucks have averaged 109.0 points - 10.5 more than their season mark - during their win streak.

Milwaukee got all it could handle Monday but escaped with a 109-108 overtime win over Utah. Monta Ellis led the way with 34 points and recently acquired J.J. Redick added 17, including eight in OT.

"The guy is a great shooter. ... The thing with J.J., when he shoots the ball, you expect it to go in," coach Jim Boylan said. "Whenever I see him raising up for a shot, I feel pretty good."

Ellis has been superb during the run, compiling 26.5 points per game on 51.3 percent shooting.

"(Monta) has been great," Redick said. "He's a great player when he's in attack mode like he's been in the last few games."

Brandon Jennings, meanwhile, appears focused on getting his teammates more involved. Jennings, who leads the team with 6.6 assists per game, dished out a career-high 19 in Saturday's 122-114 overtime win over Toronto, then recorded 17 and 20 points against the Jazz.

The Bucks are 23-11 when Jennings has at least six assists.

"The easiest thing in the NBA is scoring. Trying to assist and count on guys to get buckets for you is the hardest part," he said. "Everybody didn't think I could pass like this. I've always been a pass-first point guard since high school, so now we have a little more help with J.J. so I can show what I can do."

Milwaukee owns the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

"I think when you play in these close games and you win, it can't help but boost your confidence," Boylan said. "We're getting more comfortable with each other out there."

The Bucks haven't won five in a row since a six-game run last March 9-20.

I need this W to wash the bad taste after losing to the top 2 West teams a week apart.

I don't know what kind of omen this is for tonight - if any - but I just walked by DTS in the Century City Mall. He was with a significantly younger, very attactive woman. I was going to say something to him, but by the time it registered who it was, he had just gone into a restaurant. Didn't want to bother him in there.

Anyway, I think the Bucks are a very average team, so I'm expecting a W tonight. But, as usual, its going to come down to us coming out focused and energized.

Monta Ellis, Brandon Jennings and JJ Redick are dangerous scorers. Perimeter defense once again has to be good. Larry Sanders is very good at blocking shots inside. Not a cupcake matchup at all. Can't overlook them and be thinking about Denver tomorrow night.

Ellis and Jennings CAN be dangerous scorers. They can also both be down right bad at times. How close this game is will be determined to large extent on whether the good Ellis and Jennings show up.

He's probably going to get around $10mil a year. He could take a pay cut to play with us which would be a dream.

The Clippers have to put this team away early and rest their starters as much as possible if they want to stand a chance up here in Denver, CO.

hmm that seems pretty heavy. Im thinking maybe 8 mill for 3 years is more like it, same deal as Caron got. but you could be right. He would be a great SG upgrade.

This team is sooooo f***** stupid and low-IQ sometimes, I swear. Blake trying to go one-on-one against Sanders, leaving Ersan open for three..... poor coaching.

Can't hold a lead, can't guard the perimeter, and people think Barkley was wrong in calling this team fools' gold and soft? Bet we get blown out on TNT in Denver, too. I'm really starting to get frustrated with this team.

0 credit also. For any team to score just 9 points in the 4th at home against a terrible defensive team, they were either tanking or the lakers got bs lucky.

double standard i see. again, a tank job would have been if the hornets would have never been in the game from the start. they choked in the 4th. simple as that. mostly due to terrible coaching and lack of adjustments, same s*** you always bitch and moan about on here

Not necessarily. They competed for three quarters to entertain the fans and inspire hope for the future, and then threw the game in the fourth for lottery purposes, not really sure what's so outrageous about that.

who cares how frustrated you are man. you are close to being a troll as anyone on here. a real fan wont say, "bet we get blown out on tnt". if your predictions are so true, what are the lottery numbers? smh. give it a rest.

No, they aren't, unless the entire league is somehow constantly "getting lucky" against us. The Clippers just play horrendous perimeter defense.

Well Ellis isn't even a good 3pt shooter when open. He's already made 2. Ellis is good at the mid range game.

idk, the facts speak for themselves. its the second game in a row where his adjustments, or lack thereof have cost the hornets games where they had 17 pt and 25 pt leads. oh and earlier in this season, they were up 22 to the celtics and choked that one and were up 16 to the flakers and choked that game as well. so not sure where the tank job is in that when your team has tried to win the game from the start.
