So I was in Denver on business (coincidentally I SWEAR ) so i decided to go to the game. So this is a small trip report. What a fun atmosphere they have there. Most of it is directly related to Rocky. I caught myself at times not watching the game and just watching Rocky around the arena. He's extremely entertaining. He gave a prize package to a kid that happened to be wearing a clippers jersey. Every item he gave to the kid, the kid threw into the crowd. He eventually ran back down the stairs into the back and came back with another bag and pulled out hair clippers and shaved a big line down the center of this kids head, and then put a nuggets hat back on him. I really hope that was staged, cause man i'd be pissed.
I sat in their club selection. Nice restaurants and atmosphere. The stadium is quite nice, except for the jumbo tron and other electronics. They need an update. This still use this 8 bit looking jumbo tron that flashes up 1980's Super Technobowl type pictures when someone scores. I found it quite hilarious. Spending every home game in staples center, I really appreciate how good we have it.
They do SO many promotions. Really shows how much money a middle america team needs to bring in from sponsorship. Every timeout is some other stupid thing sponsored by a different company. Their half court shot promotion is ridiculous. You have to make a layup, and then a 3 pointer, and then a half court shot in a set amount of time (30 seconds or something) to get 10k. We give out cars with one shot.
I really got to see why this is such a tough place to play, aside from the elevation of course. The crowd really loves their team, and they are very involved in the game. Sitting in the club section i really found that they knew their basketball too. Might be coincidence, but that's one thing i like about our home games. Our fan-base doesn't sound laughably absurd when discussing basketball like the majority of people sound at lakers home games. It was refreshing to be in another environment that shared that atmosphere.
Only thing that could have made the experience better was a Clippers win.
