Why the Clippers signed Wayns

Jamal Crawford's sore left ankle and Eric Bledsoe's sore left calf have forced the Los Angeles Clippers to bring in another guard. Crawford has missed some games due to the ankle, while Bledsoe can't practice.

Why not just sign Travis leslie? Wasn't he like D-league MVP?

He's a combo guard.

I've never seen him play, but peruse these at your leisure: http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=maalik+wayns&oq=maalik+&gs _l=youtube.1.0.0l10.2170.3551.0.5840.7.6.0.0.0.0.162.804.1j5.6.0...0.0 ...1ac.1.E_OSCI2Q_es

Although just highlights, it looks like he has a good feel for the game and a nice shooting touch.

Didn't he play for the 76ers earlier this year? I think Collins had some good things to say about him.

I don't know the rules, but don't the Warriors have his rights since he plays for their D-League affiliate now?

He looks like he can ball. He's only a rookie so you can't say he's a bust just yet, could be a potential Bledsoe replacement which would be nice since he's still on his rookie deal.

seriously. or courtney fortson - who's proven he can fill in nicely at this level.

His shooting percentage with the Sixers was horrific, 26.4%. Yikes. Hopefully he can step up, we need all we can get.

And Leslie just signed a 10 day contract with the Jazz.

I wonder why Wayns was signed. Is he supposed to be super good at defense? Yeah, his shooting doesn't look that good on paper.

I agree, we should have kept Leslie.

Rookies that play in Philly never seem to do anything the first year, I wonder if its because their fans are fierce. Turner was basically a bust his first year and same with Jrue Holiday. Lets give Wayns a chance.

Don't know anything about him. When I heard Travis Leslie signed with Utah today I was happy to hear it but now that we signed someone I am confused why we didn't just sign Leslie to a 10 day contract. He is familiar with the team, has been playing great in the D-League,and is good friends with Trey(what's the latest on him btw?) so it doesn't make sense that we didn't sign him.Either way I doubt we keep Wayns, this might just be some back up in case Crawford will miss some games.

Looks to me that he's more of a scorer, which is what we need I suppose if Jamal can't go. Here are his stats from the D-League- pretty decent 3 pt shooting at 38%, and 12 points per game in just 22 minutes is not too shabby:

Wayns is a rookie I believe with solid potential.

Seriously there is something wrong with our training staff, Thompkins still hasn't played and we have no idea what's up with his knee, not that it matters, but calf injury shouldn't take this long to heal(bledsoe) is it just me or do we indeed have a bad medical staff.

Trey sucks folks, plain and simple. I know we all want every single one of our draft picks to do well, but he's a 2nd rounder. A mid 2nd rounder I believe so there wasn't much room for growth and potential there. At this point in the season I'd expect VDN to tighten up the rotations more and more, signing Wayns is a move simply for insurance. I doubt he gets much playing time even if he gets signed for the rest of the season.

Not a good shooter in college or his brief time in the NBA.

I am sort of confused about this guy anyhow and was thinking about it the other day. I am not clear why he is on our team. He hasn't played, and didn't much last year. I think he has played something like 24 or 25 games total. Could we not spend the money better?

I, like others have wanted to see Trey actually play. Not sure if he's "injured" or the coaching staff hates him. I am POSITIVE I have seen him on the bench at times. Why not play him in blowouts? If they don't want to use him at all, send him to the D League to improve or flat out get him off the team. It's a bit ridiculous that we've had him on the roster the entire season and he hasn't played.

It's strange he hasn't at least suited up on some of the games that we've been short handed. Makes you think he's got something serious wrong with him that they're not telling people.

If it was a bruised knee and that's it, he'd be in the D-League getting some run by now.

i wouldnt read too much into this - there's a good chance he wont even play a minute. just insurance. cheap insurance.

In regards to Travis Leslie, he got picked up by the Jazz. I don't know the process flow of him getting there, but that's where he's at.

When does his contract expire? 10 days after he was signed or the Clippers' first game with him?

He looked decent in his first game. Maybe he can help in the future.

I think we should hold onto him,he is a better developement project than Trey I believe, I mean 5 assists in 8 MINUTES??? That's a lot. And granted it was Detroit but he has really good vision. His defense was good too, it wasn't like he was stealing the ball from DJ, it was Knight or some pg. plus we have good pgs he can learn under, hope we keep him.

Always difficult to make a judgement based on garbage time, but the kid looks like he makes good decisions. I doubt he's ready to be a full-time backup to CP3 yet.

With Bledsoe likely gone between July and February, I say we sign a veteran backup in the offseason and bring Maalik in to training camp with the possibility of him being our 3rd-stringer and developing him for the future.

No point in giving him anything more than a second 10-day this year, because he won't see any time in the playoffs and he'll be a FA at the end of the season anyway.
