Draftexpress reports that there's a Clipper trade rumor going on where LA would send it's #7, next year's 1st rounder, and the 2010 protected pick owed to them to Minnesota for the #3 pick which would turn out to be OJ Mayo.

I think that would not be smart trade at all for us- we'd pretty much be forfeiting the future for this pick. At #7 we're going to get a very good player in either Eric Gordon or Westbrook. I'm sorry but OJ May does not equal Gordon/Westbrook + our 1st rounder next season, + the 2010 Minnesota pick owed to us (which could be a high lottery pick in 2011). No way- please don't do it Elgin!

Yeah seriously. We could end up with 3 pretty damn good players which sort of rebuild and replace our older existing players. I don't think OJ is worth all that is mentioned in that trade rumor. I really think we are in great shape with the 7th pick and see no need at all to trade up. There's so much potential to be had why give away all our future picks for one player who might even drop to the 6th spot....though i guess not very likely

This trade is not going to happen. Elgin is not a genius, but he isn't that stupid either.

As much as I think that eventually OJ will be a great NBA scorer, I have to agree that, that is just too much to give up for not just OJ but Rose or Beasley as well. Now if we Elgin could think of some Ingenious way to maybe offload an unhappy Maggettee to get the #3 pick, then I believe that might be better. But what are the chances that we could keep our #7 as well. Especially seeing that CM is proven and the likes of a Mayo, Gordon, Westbrook havent been yet.

Trading Maggette for the #3 pick straight up would be interesting though not likely enough. But imagine having the third pick as well as the seventh. That would be pretty sweet.

^^That would be sweet but personally I'd really much rather just have the 7th pick AND Maggette still on the team. Even though a #3 + a #7 would be a lot of young talent- they would be pretty inexperienced and the team at this point doesn't need two rookies to play big minutes.

^^^agreed. The chemistry wouldn't quite be there yet. This is going to be one hell of a draft.

First off, WOW the site has grown in the last couple months, I have been insanely busy and not keeping up!

Second, all this OJ Mayo talk is ridiculous to me. Mark my words, he will not be a superstar. I think we can get a serviceable guy at 7, and work through free agency or a trade or two and we have a chance...

IMO don't need a #3 and #7 pick. No more young guys, win now!

In fact if Mayo is available at #7, pick him and trade him ... many teams would drool over him and give up a vet and a pick (#10 or #11 or so). That might be the best way to get to the next level without banking on a single rookie with questionable ethics.

I mean, he's a local boy so you can be sure there will be a fan following...in other words, I may be able to finally sell some Clipper tickets for face value as opposed to discounted. In addition, OJ Mayo is the kind of player that brings swagger to the an NBA team which is what the Clippers lack right now. The NBA draft is the best place to get a guy like that because, for the most part, all the rookies are unknowns at this point. So, in my opinion, if the Clippers don't make an aggressive move like trading next years pick to get OJ, they'll end up being the same mediocre team with no shot of even making the playoffs.

I'd love for the Clips to grab OJ, but not for three first round picks. Now if it was for the #1 overall pick...I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Yes, but another interesting fact about having rookie players are their contracts...With a rookie you can have a good player for cheap during 4-5 years and I think it's very interesting to mix these players with veteran players who earn much more money like EB.
