Once again we face Memphis in round 1, and I already foresee some problems, and if anyone isn't scared they should be.

Memphis will hold the same exact record we do in the overall standings, as well as their home and away record. On paper, Memphis is as good as we are record wise. They will push hard for away wins, and are very strong at home.

Memphis has a stronger front court than we do by about 50 miles. Marc Gasol an Zach Randolph can both play 36-40 MPG easily, DJ can maybe give us 30 if he plays spot on defense, they aren't fouling him to put him at the line, and he's rebounding and scoring well. Which is about as rare as an Otis Nixon home run. They also have Ed Davis who is better than any of our back up big men if Gasol or Randolph needs a breather. We rely on Grandpa Odom whose had two of the worst seasons in anyone's career they can think of, paired with Turiaf or Hollins LOL.

While we outrank the Grizz in the front court for scoring, the Defense their PG/Sg combo of Allen/Conley have is something to worry about, as we platoon the SG spot like we do the SF and C spot. Bledsoe and CP3 are better than average defenders, but is Bledsoe going to get a bulk of the minutes again while Crawford plays out at the 3 or gets little minutes? What about Billups and Hill?

Fact is I think we face a bigger chance of losing this year than we did last year, when Memphis had Gay and Speights still on the team, and we all know how well that series turned out. Sure we got a win, but we got destroyed by the Spurs in round 2, whom we should have at least won 2 games against. We could be in line for a sweep against OKC in round 2 if we don't buckle down and absolutely PUMMEL the Grizzlies.

Time for DJ, CP3, Blake and everybody else to make that money. We need to win in 5 or less to have a SHOT at making it a 6 game series in round 2.

The ONLY thing that will prevent us winning by game 6 is... Blake. If he is still playing soft, passive and with minor injuries we may lose. If he's healthy come Saturday and finds his manhood.. we will kill them. We are a matchup nightmare for them, not the other way around.

i hate that blake has a tendency of getting hurt just in time for the playoffs.

haha you have been waiting all night to post this huh? Relax man. We are on a 7 game win streak going into the playoffs. We can defeat them. we are 3-1 on them this season.

We are 3-1 against the Griz this season. 2 wins on their home court. I am not worried at all.

I see us win in 6. The Griz have the same record as us but we are the much better and balanced team and we have dominated them h2h especially on their home court.

We are a 6.5 SRS team, the Griz are only a 4.2 SRS team.

Subtract Gay and Speights, add in Prince and Davis, this is still a team I fear. I am more worried about playing the Grizzlies than I would be playing the 70 win Bulls team in the 90's. I wasn't waiting all night either, this is something I was thinking about for awhile. Blake and DJ really need to show they are tough and really grind on the Memphis front court hard, if we show we are wussies out there, they will do nothing more than wear our big men down and cripple our team for round 2 if we can make it by them.

CP3 and Crawford need to be on absolute fire the entire first round against these guys so we can take them out swiftly.

Good god your embarrassing yourself. If anything its the Griz who should be afraid of us after we shat on them on their home court over and over again. Fearing the Teddybears over the 72 win Bulls. Smfh. lol

They have an inflated record that makes them look better than they really are evidenced by their low SRS.

We've beaten them twice since they made these trades. Bottom line is our biggest weakness (3 point defense) happens to be something they are terrible at. They rank 30th in threes attempted and made.

I'm only worried about the Grizzlies because they want revenge from last year. But the Clippers are better than last years Clippers and they will prove it.

Alright, w'e people. This isn't going to be an easy matchup. If we end up losing don't let me be the first to say I told you so. Underestimating our opponent is a bad thing. Remember, the Grizzlies have a better record than the #2 seed in the East. And the only reason why a few of those East teams have sweet records is because they play in the East. The West > the East by about 50 miles in terms of difficulty.

Nobody said easy... but definitely not a team we have to "worry" about or be "scared" about. If anything this is the one team I'm always confident against. Of course it will be competitive.

I guarantee you that us fans underestimating our opponent isn't what is important. You make good points sure, memphis is going to be tough but I believe we can do it. I have all the faith that CP3, Blake, and VDN will have the team well prepared and rested. We have a better bench than they do.

Since when do fans have control over anything? I would be worried if our players were cocky which they won't be.

we smoke the grizzlies in 6 or less. this season seems different. the clippers know that they can match up with the grizzlies well. if they play with energy and intensity throughout the series, i dont see why we should beat the grizzlies much easier than last year.

Let's just erase this thread because I think we can ALL agree that Memphis aint got s**t on us!

I find it funny that some think Memphis is such a 'gritty team' when we are just as aggressive as them. They just have a reputation of being that kind of team so they get away with more physical play than us, but with that being said, Memphis FEARS us, I bet they still got nightmares of that 27 pt comeback 8)

^^Yup- I agree CB32. Our second unit outclasses the Grizz's reserves. I think as long as the starters battle the Grizz starters even or even slightly negative, and our second unit get +5 each half, we should be okay. Bonus would be if our starters can get hot and get a several basket edge, then we'd be in business.

haha ditto. I love how everyone is so high on the Grizzlies even though we won 7 out of the last 11 games against them. I say we win the series in 6 games.

Exactly! Well said David, I got so much faith in our bench and like you said, our starters battle with them, keep it close or have a lead and we'll be fine. I also forgot to mention that Vinny has outcoached Lionel Hollins thus far so that's got to be a plus!

Memphis goes on stretches of bad offense. That's where the clippers bench come in!

Memphis 1st round - problems:

They're one of the best teams in the league, have an awesome defense and a fearsome front court tandem.

Memphis 1st round - solutions:

We're one of the best teams in the league, have an awesome offense AND defense and a fearsome "you don't know where it's coming from" tandem.

Clips in 6 or less.

What do the people who say we were "limping" into the playoffs have to say?

I like the Chancey Billups factor.Off the top of my head I don't think the Grizz have even seen Chancey play these last 2 seasons. No doubt they will put Allen on CP3,which would have hurt our offense with Green at the 2 but now with Chancey,he can allow CP3 to play off the ball more and take some pressure off him.And Tony Allen is basically a non factor on offense so we won't have to worry about whether or not Chancey can keep up with him.I am really looking forward to this series and think we can win in 6.

F*** it, ill go out on a limb and say we sweep the grizz. lol. let the hate begin. yes they are a tough team due to the bulls*** they get away with, but i feel that we have the roster to make their lives hell. games will be close, but we have 2 closers on our roster in cp3 and billups. we have the depth to match up with them and homecourt.

Local media? The Lakers have been all over ESPN for the past month. I don't like to blatantly hate on the Lakers but it's been sickening how much media coverage they've gotten lately just for being slightly above mediocre.

Memphis can go on a bad offensive streak but also shut down opposing teams offenses as well. Conley Allen and gasol aren't slouches on defense and will give headaches to our 3 main scorers.

Grizz fan here! I am not looking forward to playing you guys because every time do, I feel emotionally drained. Last year was an awakening for us because we were on top of the world after the magical 2011 playoff run. This has been an incredible year for both teams and there's a ton to be excited about if you're a fan of either team..

That being said, we are the underdogs, but we always perform well as the dark horse. In 2011, no one expected us to beat the Spurs or come a game within the WCF.... As an 8 seed. Last year, we were chosen to come out of the Clippers series and look what happened..... Doesn't seem like a big difference maker but I've watched this group for 4 years and it really does make a difference.

It's going to be a crazy series and there is a lot of hate between the two teams, fans, writers, etc. I'm really excited, so go grizz!

If Blake's healthy, he'll come to play. A lot was made of Blake's lack of rebounding against Memphis in last year's playoffs. The thing is whatever the Clippers were doing...they were doing it right. While Blake and CP3 were healthy, Clips were up 3 games to 1. And while Blake was limited to about 6/7 rebounds. Randolph was limited too. They seem to cancel each other out, and let others grab boards. Seems to me the Clippers have the book on Memphis...at least more than most teams. They know how to beat these guys. I just hope Randolph doesn't get away with more cheap shots against Blake. That's the ONLY thing I hate about us playing the Grizzlies.

I just read from the Rapid Reaction article that BG said after the game that he feels fine and that the back "shouldn't be an issue in the playoffs". Hopefully, this is true.

I think we're going to see a better Paul in the playoffs than last year. Not that he was bad, but he wasn't really dominant like he was against the Lakers the year before. Just before the playoffs, Paul had to take the last regular season off to nurse an injury, which may have thrown his game off a little headed into the post season.

But Paul has been looking really sharp down the stretch here. He looks ready.

First off, major props to VDN and the boys on a 56 win season.

The only thing I'm worried about this series is Chauncey Billups playing time and Blake's injury.

The Clippers have to speed the game up, use their athleticism, and kick up the defensive pressure to beat the Grizz. Billups slows the team. Willie Green should start and DJ should get heavy minutes with the second unit.

This is it guys, playoff time!!!! Time to bring home the first title!

I really do hope the Lakers go on a good playoff run and we can have CLIPPERS/LAKERS WCF.

Enjoy the games.

I have the same worries, mainly about Billips.

One up side to having Chauncey is Mike Conley and Tony Allen. Conley can't guard CP3, and Chauncey could dominate him in the post. Then on the defensive end, Tony Allen doesn't require much attention at all. We will get by with Chauncey and his shortcomings this series, we'll see down the road.

I was listening to a sports talk show yesterday on 570 with 2 super Laker homers and they had Stu Lantz on the phone and asked Stu about the chances for them to be in the finals, Stu pretty much said getting out of the first round is almost an impossibility. Not what the homers wanted to hear.

With Mem,,all we have to worry about is Zach trying to be a big effing bully like he can be and him hurting someone,,which he will try to do. We have a better team, a way better Tribe Called Bench,,I can see this in 5, 6 at the most (providing we don't have to pay Ref Ball).

Should be a good series grizz fan. I think we're alot better then last year and because we have homecourt, we should win. But yes, I agree you guys play better as underdogs, but I know a decent amount of media members believe you guys will win. Hope players from both teams can stay healthy. Hate to see injuries.

So is it a rivalry yet? And don't say "No, they haven't beaten us in a playoff series yet" because you will sound like a Laker fan who won't admit the Clippers are for real. Lets not be hypocrites. I love the rivalry, and I want more.

It's at least a recent rivalry or the start of a real rivalry. Back to back years in the playoffs, equally matched teams, always emotional and tough... Yea it's a good rivalry in my eyes

Jered you're definitely right. At least it furthers this rapidly forming, one of league best rivalries. Good news is both teams look like contenders for the next 3-4 years at least so it shouldn't stop now.
