Sure, the Grizzlies got Marc. But the credit should go to the Memphis' coaching staff for developing him as a top 5 center. Marc was not only a 2nd round pick, he was a late 2nd round pick so his projection was a serviceable backup center at best. So at that time, it was such a one-sided deal.

Um, he won MVP in Europe prior to being drafted, so the potential was already there. I didn't think he was going to be a back-up center at best.

So what? Plenty of role players at best in the NBA won MVPs in Europe. The fact is he was drafted 48th overall. 48th.. Let me repeat it again: 48th. The trade was one-sided at the time. And the team that drafted him already had a young center. Don't be a homer. And thanks for giving this thread a thumbs down.

It still is a one sided deal. The lakers got two championships from adding Pau Gasol, and the grizzlies....are known as a grit and grind team. Also, lakers fans use the current improvement of the grizzlies as a sign that the Gasol deal was good for both teams...wrong. It wsa the Clippers practically giving away Zach Randolph to the grizz, and the additions of Marc Connoley and others that had nothing to do with the Lakers package.
