I just heard from Mark Stein that no chance on PJ. Sterling still hasn't forgotten all the shots Jackson took at him over the years. Good for him TBH.

Believe it or not, this will go over well with many of the leagues coaches. He's not the same owner as he once was.

But yeah,,someone may as well start the Fire XYZ thread because as soon as we lose the first game next year nay here will want the new coach fried. And if we lose less games,,watch out.

True, but it will interesting to see if whoever is VDN's replacement will stir the same level of passion about his firing that he did. I mean, if there's another ClipperSam waiting in the wings to bash the next Clippers coach, lord help us all.

I'm good with Stan/jeff van Gundy, both Mike's budenheizer/Malone or B. Shaw. Anybody else I would be disappointed unless it's Phil or Jerry

If getting PJ is what makes you feel we are a threat to the Lakers, than you must think very highly of the Lakers.

Either way PJ isn't coming, and the only people that want him are historians.

If - We got Byron Scott what would we be basing his hiring off of? I dont know much about him (coachwise) Why would the Clippers Org. hire him over Sloan or the Van Gundy's.. .unless they just flat out dont want to coach the Clippers..(we have to keep this in mind)

Scott should be the last option. SVG has not shown any interest of coaching next season just yet, but maybe this is what he was waiting for: Clippers finally letting go of VDN. crossing fingers that he and Sterling schedule an interview.

Van Gundy made it clear that he could still change his mind, but he believes that's incredibly unlikely. "NBC Sports Radio has been great, I've really enjoyed that part of it, but I'll admit, in terms of the way I think of myself professionally, I still think of myself as a coach, not as a broadcaster," Van Gundy said. "I miss the coaching. It pulls at me. I think it's going to be there always and we'll have to wait to see what the future holds, and that's why I'm quick to not characterize anything as permanent. As we sit here on May the 21st, I'm not planning on coaching next year. I'm not even saying no to that for sure, though I'm pretty sure that won't happen based on the fact I've been saying no to everybody. But, you just don't know. Things change from day-to-day and year-to-year and so we'll just have to see what happens."

SVG is not an option recent reports confirmed he is not going to be coaching for family reasons for 2013-14. And many say Sloan is too expensive.

Who is realistically are options now? Is Byron Scott better than VDN?

Its not "confirmed" until its "confirmed", which means.... wait until the season starts then you can "confirm" it. Again... was all this "confirmation" before or after Clippers announced the non-rehiring of vdn?

Everyone says they are not available for family reasons until an offer is thrown at them... Money is good for the family too... I don't think anyone has every said "I want to spend more time with my family" has ever said no to a solid offer for family reasons... If they were true family men they wouldn't be in coaching in the first place.

There isn't a job on the planet that is worse for a family than coaching... While working your way up, you are making little money and going from job to job and city to city as opportunities arise, pulling your kids out of school and away from their friends with every move. The hours are long and the travel incessant. When you've finally made it, most coaches are fired within a couple years and on the move again.

Successful families that are built around a coach are resilient because of a strong parent at home. They can deal with the absences...

SVG will coach again, sooner rather than later.

Nate was 6'4-6'5 and played PG, SG and at times in a PINCH SF. He averaged over 6 assists a game for his career and served as Gary Payton's backcourt partner for years in Seattle, and came off the bench as a guard as well. Nate McMillan is known as a GUARD by most all NBA buffs and not a forward. Remember, Seattle had Kemp and Shcrempf at SF/PF.

ESPN more:

OS ANGELES -- Vinny Del Negro is out as coach of the Los Angeles Clippers after their first-round playoff exit.

Following one of the best seasons in franchise history, the Clippers said Tuesday that Del Negro won't be offered a new contract when his current one expires at the end of June.

Whoever lands the Clippers' coaching job will encounter a bar even higher than the one Vinny Del Negro failed to clear. The Clippers' job might be desirable, but it's fraught with pitfalls, Kevin Arnovitz writes.

ESPN reported last week that Clippers owner Donald Sterling was reluctant to cut ties with Del Negro immediately after the season, and initial conversations with his representatives had been positive, according to sources with knowledge of the situation.

But once it became apparent that Sterling was considering bringing back Del Negro, reaction within the organization changed Sterling's thinking, and Del Negro was informed of the decision Tuesday morning, sources told ESPNLosAngeles.com.

The Clippers said in a written statement that a search for a new coach will begin immediately.

One source with knowledge of the Clippers' thinking said Phil Jackson would "pretty much be excluded" from consideration because of his engagement to Lakers executive Jeanie Buss. While the source insisted it wasn't a reflection on Jackson's coaching ability, it would simply be "too creepy" for the Clippers to bring in a coach who was engaged to the owner of their crosstown rival.

Jackson repeatedly has insisted that he's not interested in a return to coaching, preferring a front-office role instead. One source with knowledge of Jackson's thinking said generally -- not specifically in relation to the Clippers -- that "he could be talked into" coaching again if he "had influence" on personnel decisions and the situation was a good fit.

Del Negro had a 128-102 regular-season record in three seasons with the team. The Clippers made the playoffs the past two seasons, including last season when they advanced to the second round for only the second time since the franchise moved to Los Angeles in 1984.

The Clippers won a franchise-record 56 games this season, had a 17-game winning streak and won the club's first Pacific Division title. But the Clippers were ousted by the Memphis Grizzlies in the opening round of the Western Conference playoffs, losing in six games after taking a 2-0 series lead.

"We would like to thank Vinny for everything he did during his three years with the organization," Clippers vice president of basketball operations Gary Sacks said in a statement released by the team. "Vinny helped this team win a Pacific Division title and we greatly appreciate all that he and his staff helped us accomplish. This was a difficult decision, but we feel this is the best decision for our franchise moving forward."

All-Star guard Chris Paul becomes a free agent July 1, and the Clippers have said their top priority is to re-sign him.

If the club is allowing CP3 and others to give input on who should be the next coach, everybody better get off their asses because I want a coach here before the damn draft. Coaches have input on draft selections and I'd like our team to draft players to fit what our coach wants to do, not just draft guys for the hell of it.
