Stan van gundy. Decent defensive coach, he might help dj and blake with basic b ball knowledge too

^idk, his abrasive style may wrong bg or cp3 the wrong way. ill welcome him if the clips go out and acquire channing frye and reddick or korver. you need shooters to make it work with SVG

well that was only cause he had dwight in the middle, with a bunch of shooters. now, cp3 would be his best player. it's his defensive impact on the team that makes me want him as our next coach

^ but that would mean dj would need to develop an offensive game. hes just as inept on offense as howard, except howard plays with balls. remember, when they got to the finals, he had turkoglu as the facilitator. he had good shooters. i would seriously go after frye and reddick or korver. we need shooters. thats why the grizzlies have been packing it in the paint. if we had shooters, memphis would struggle against us and not us against them

I am all for a coach with an emphasis on Defense. Our offense is just a reliably consistent shooter or two from being elite. We just need a center who can box out for rebounds and be the defensive anchor that DJ wasn't.

No Phil Jackson... Jerry Sloan, Larry Brown or Nate McMillan.

Jerry Sloan has had a dynamic duo like CP3/Blake before and has a solid system with a lot of experience.

Nate McMillan is a defensive specialist, young, and has experienced too.

Larry Brown is a solid coach but not my number one choice.

Nate McMillan has my vote.

No JVG, I don't like his vibe from TV. My instincts tell me, he is not what we need to win a championship. He'll take us farther than VDN but we need someone who can push us over the top. I'll go with the Geezer Jerry Sloan.

We definitely need consistent outside threats. We also need to trade Bledsoe for a reliable 3rd option if possible.

I would go with Jerry Sloan or Larry Brown. Larry Brown seems to always take teams from the bottom and take them into the playoffs in his first two seasons. Jerry Sloan would be my number one choice. We lack toughness, and Jerry Sloans team were always tough in Utah, he always had the team play tough nomatter who was on the team. When his team fouled, they would Foul hard, none of that soft stuff.

I'd like SVG, that dude's teams always had good defense, and our team kinda reminds me of Orl when they made the Finals, Big Superstar with a bunch of shooters, with an elite pg for a bonus.

Agree 100%

The Jazz, no matter who was on the roster, played solid physical high IQ basketball. Sloan got the experience and the mental toughness to push the Clippers to a new level. Not to mention that Sloan can play chess against a coach like Popovich and not checkers like VDN.

Sloan was also the master with the pick and row and pick fade game, Stockton and Malone. Griffin is getting better with his mid range shot, not quite as consistent as Malone yet. Plus Sloan's team were known for throwing a lot of screens, off ball screens, lots of movement without the ball.

If the Clippers can not get Jerry Sloan than I think Nate McMillan should be the front runner...

Offensively the Clippers can score, let's just disregard half court offense for a minute, so the Clippers can score but offense does not win championships, DEFENSE wins championship. The Clippers defense is not terrible but it's not the best neither. Individual defense only applies to some players (CP3, Bledsoe, Barnes, and maybe Blake but can definitely improve) so that has to improve but the Clipper team defense is what needs the most work which will eliminate the lack of individual defense. Long story short, Nate McMillan is defensive minded with more upside of a long term idea.

In a fantasy world, Doc Rivers (The former Clipper) would be great...

Jerry Sloan

Phil Jackson

Jeff Van Gundy

Stan Van Gundy

If we don't end up with one of these 4 we had a fail offseason, no matter if we re-sign CP3 or not. Guys like McMillan and Scott are upgrades because of their defense but not big enough of upgrades to take us far.

Well said.

Jerry Sloan has coached a dynamic duo like Blake and CP3 (Malone and Stockton... Most recently D-Will and Boozer) so if Sloan had another chance at it with a bigger market, quality role players, and a still raw Blake Griffin as well as DJ than Sloan will have the potential to make history by not only winning the Clippers first NBA Championship but by just winning a NBA Championship period. Sloan is one of those coaches that deserves a championship.

The "too old" crap makes me laugh. Anybody hear John Wooden talk basketball at like 100 years old? Sloan is 71 and Phil is like 66. That's not too old to coach. It's not like most coaches stay in a place more than 5 years anyways.

lol. i agree they aren't too old, but you know some owners think about hiring younger coaches or coaches that don't have health issues. Like I said, I'm all for Jerry and Phil.

Rumors are that the Pistons are interested in Nate McMillan http://www.slamonline.com/online/nba/2013/05/nate-mcmillan-and-lindsey -hunter-interviewed-for-pistons-coaching-job/

I find it hilarious that the Pistons want McMillan, they have maybe 1 guy that can play defense not named Drummond

I'd go for Phil and hire someone like Patrick Ewing or Charles Oakley for BG and DJ.

As much as I'd love to have Phil, I don't see him coaching again, though I do think that if he were to coach again, the Clippers would be his ideal team just to stick to the guys across the hall for how they did him this past season.

I think Jerry Sloan will get the best out of Blake Griffin, though I don't know how much CP3 will like to play for him due to Sloan's lack of flexibility in his offense. Sloan likes for things to be done a particular way and Chris Paul likes to do things his way so I don't know how well those two variables will mesh. I am fully confident that Sloan will get the best out of all of his players for as long as he's coach. He's a no BS kind of guy and I think that's exactly what this team needs.

I love Nate McMillan for our squad just because I feel like he fits the mold of a guy who can grow with the team. He's fiery and competitive and I think he and CP3 would love working with Each other. I also think he'd be great for Blake and would do a good job in helping him reach his maximum potential. Of all the coaches not named Phil Jackson, he's the one I'd like the most.

I'll pass on either of the Van Gundys. Don't like the way either of them handle players.

I like Byron Scott and Doug Collins, and have no doubt that they'd bring us success, just don't know for how long.

Why not? D'Antoni had $100 million roster capable of causing damage, regardless of injuries, but D'Antoni did not only not want to change the "Seven seconds or less" system, D'Antoni couldn't adapt to the squad eventually leading the Lakers to an "Epic Fail" season.

D'Antoni is an upgrade just because of experience along over VDN but what success does D'Antoni have over VDN? None. Long story short D'Antoni would not be good. Defense wins championships... Not offense.

I heard a rumor at the end of PTI this afternoon that the Bucks may pursue Stan Van Gundy, since they fired their coach earlier today. They'll likely beat us to the punch since we still have own coach under contract. That'll be an interesting situation there in the Beer City, although the Bucks have some decent defensive talent (especially Larry Sanders), their two best players don't and/or won't play a lick of defense. There's also a rumor that if the Nuggets lose out to the Warriors, George Karl might be let go in Denver (it's amazing that he's been there nine years already)...if his health is well enough to handle coaching in a bigger market like Los Angeles, just imagine him with Paul and Griffin.

I still think, however, the old man is burned after the Mike Dunleavy debacle, and unless there's a no-brainer top-flight coach out there available, I don't see Sterling spending beyond what he pays Vinny currently. I think it'll be a promotion from within, notably Robert Pack.

A beat writer for the Bucks mentioned today that he'd heard Stan Van Gundy will most likely take next year off as well. I however think that changes if the Clippers call. If I'm SVG I don't come back to coach the Bucks.

Brian Shaw, SVG, JVG, and Sloan should all get calls. CP3 is also said to be very high up on Warriors assistant Mike Malone, who was with Paul in New Orleans.

I agree. If he was such a good coach, why is he being choosey about where he goes. It's not like teams that need coaches are lining up for him. lol

he's too militant to ever coach again, IMO.

What do you mean CP3 needs control? CP3 is the best on court leader of the game... You don't think Sloan would embrace that? Did Stockton and Malone ever clash to a point where it ruined the team during there time together?

That militant style would be a plus for the Clippers young core of Blake, DJ, and Bledsoe. Sloan would probably take these players to the new level which is what the Clippers need. Sloan has the experience, the style, and the brains to make this Clippers team more than just lobs.

I will tell you this much... The Clippers will allow CP3 and most likely Blake decide on a coach this summer (Because VDN's days are numbered) and if Sloan becomes the next Clippers coach than it's safe to say that CP3 and Blake will be on the same page with Sloan.

agree that Sloan might not be the right coach for CP3.... do like SVG some, and.... prefer someone who is pro DJ, and would hire both Bill Laimbeer and James Edwards to work w/Blake and DJ....

what we need to improve on is defense.... specifically Paul's and Griffin's D.

Two guys that won't be coaching the Clippers next season, Jackson cause he doesn't want to coach anymore, he's looking to run a franchise and Sloan becomes he is too old.

I'm 80% sure it will be SVG.
