They just reported that the Clippers have traded their 2009 2nd round pick to the Blazers for Mike Taylor, a fast PG from the D-League. Here is more info on him- he played well in the pre-draft camps:
http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Mike-Taylor-5211/
http://www.draftexpress.com/article/NBA ... -Day-Four/
Mike Taylor, 6-2, PG/SG, Idaho Stampede
20 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists, 1 turnover, 3 steals, 8-14 FG, 4-6 3P
Jonathan Givony
Mike Taylor is the type of story you find on occasion in the D-League. A 21 year old former Junior College standout, Taylor spent his lone year in college playing for Iowa State, where he had a terrific season, averaging 16 points and 4.5 assists on his way to All-Big 10 honors. From there things seemed to go downhill for him, as he was kicked of the team after being arrested on more than one occasion. He first tried enrolling at a Division II school, but when that didn’t work out, went to go play in the D-League instead, and actually had himself a terrific performance at the D-League showcase.
Taylor is a superb athlete, possibly one of the quickest players we saw in our four days in Boise. He’s also an excellent ball-handler, able to change directions quickly and get to the rim in strong fashion, where he can finish in a variety of ways. Taylor can also shoot the ball with NBA range, as he displayed knocking down a barrage of 3-pointers in just a few short minutes to bury Fort Wayne in the 3rd quarter. He’s a streak scorer who can heat up just as fast as he can cool down.
In an off the bench sparkplug role playing in a wide open setting such as this, Taylor is outstanding, but where he might get himself into some trouble is when he’s forced to think and make plays in the half-court. He’s quite wild with the ball at times, driving with his head down at full speed into the paint, and jacking up terrible shots off the dribble without even thinking about looking around to see if one of his teammates are open. That doesn’t come as that much of a surprise when you consider that Taylor shot 37% from the field last year and averaged just under 5 and a half turnovers per game, playing for one of the worst teams in the Big 12.
No one will deny the talent Taylor has at his disposal, but if he’s going to make a career in basketball, he’s going to have to first prove that he’s put his considerable baggage behind him. Playing here in Idaho is a nice start. |

watched him play for a year at ISU before he got booted off the team. He was the best player on the team in the first year and it was apparent in the first few games IMO. I remember him having over 20 in his first ever game, but I think maybe his 4th game at Minnesota he single handedly beat them with 33 points.
Biggest concern at ISU was his ball handling. They basically transplanted him if I remember correctly to PG even though he wasn't a PG. He still had about 5 assists/game, but people got on him for this.
Got kicked off the team because he stole some cold medicine..went through some things. Seemed to have matured A LOT after awhile in the NBDL as a person overall. Read bunches of interviews and he seemed like a different guy.
Anyway, he was a big reason why his team in the NBDL won the championship this year. I believe he had 27 points and 7 rebounds in the championship game. Come the pre-draft tournaments/camps he started to show up everyone and his draft stock rose immensely.
From NBA.com on that, Day 3:
"In Thursday's nightcap, Taylor was nearly flawless, finishing with 24 points (17 in the first half) on 8-for-12 shooting, as Team Six defeated Team Three 99-78. He scored on drives. He scored on pull-ups. He knocked down two three pointers. He made all six of his free throw attempts. He also used his quickness to be a disruption on the defensive end."
From Day 2:
"Taylor led all scorers in the day's opening game with 17 points on 6-for-10 shooting"
I remember him also being amazingly athletic. He's only 6'2" but his vertical is about 40 inches and he has a knack for scoring. |

| When you look inside his stats in the D league playoffs you notice that he averraged 16PPG in only 26 minutes. He was their 6th man off the bench. In the finals he hit 50% form the floor and 67% from the 3. And he is a PG. If you paired him with Eric Gordon who can also nail the 3, we just might have quite a prolific outside shooting guard tandem. I can't wait to see this guy. |

Mike was one of only 4 players invited to the NADL Slam Dunk contest. He has a 40 leap. He is the guy with the plain red shirt with no numbers or letters.

Saw some tape of a game he played in. He can definitely shoot from the outside, also can drive to the hoop, very quick, has a good handle, and they say he has improved greatly since the game I saw a couple of years ago. He seems to be the complete package. There were some mocks that had him late in the first round or a bubble first rounder. We might have gotten another steal here and it only cost us a future 2nd round pick, so who knows. |
