In response to what Bill Simmons said earlier that Doc abandoned the Celtics, Doc said, "I'd call Bill an idiot, but I have more class than that.", they cut back to Bill Simmons at the draft and he looked pissed. Then again, he looked pissed since they announced the Celtics and Nets trade.

Bill Simmons responded very emotionally saying things along the lines of, "Well he should just own up to what he did. First he knew, then he said he didn't know... he wanted out of Celtics, he wanted out to coach the Clippers, and he should just say that."

Kinda like the Doc decision... nobody here was anti Bullock that I saw. Even Tense who didn't like some of the more hyped guys wanted Bullock. Front office seems VERY in tune with fans lately on decisions.

BTW Doc's 17 year old son is going ham on Bill Simmons on Twitter lol.

Jeremiah Rivers ‏@JRivers25 29m @BillSimmons @espn My father has never quit anything in his life. He now has an NBA Championship, and helped in rejuvenating the Celtics.

Jeremiah Rivers ‏@JRivers25 30m @BillSimmons @espn That's why he is 3rd winningest coach in Celtics history. Those are just credentials, but you already know this.

Jeremiah Rivers ‏@JRivers25 29m @BillSimmons @espn Your the same guy who was trying to run my dad out of town when it seemed like the Celtics were down and out.

Jeremiah Rivers ‏@JRivers25 28m @BillSimmons @espn Then you praised him like GOD himself when he helped turn things around. Where is your loyalty.

Jeremiah Rivers ‏@JRivers25 28m @BillSimmons @espn You know nothing about winning, about sacrifice, and being a champion. You sit behind a desk and pick on people.

Jeremiah Rivers ‏@JRivers25 27m @BillSimmons @espn .You are a Internet bully. There is a reason nobody will side with you. They like my dad better than you.

Jeremiah Rivers ‏@JRivers25 26m @BillSimmons @espn Magic, Wilbon, Shaq, Ernie, etc They know my father and they know about being a professional at the highest LEVEL.

Jeremiah Rivers ‏@JRivers25 26m @BillSimmons @espn If you don't have all the facts, which you clearly DON'T, I suggest you sit down and shut up. Good day sir.

ETHERED son.

Not really. Boston kind of nudged him out and even Boston reporters were saying weeks before our trade talks that the team was starting to doubt the idea that paying a coach 7 mill a year for rebuilding was worth it. You saw how Boston just exploded their team tonight in a trade without pause. It's a business and our trade with Boston was mutually driven and mutually beneficial. So no.. Simmons is a douchebag period homer or not.

Lol, what? Did you hear the question Doc answered. He replied about Bill calling him a quitter and then Bill responds to that by going completely off topic and saying stuff like "well, Doc can't make up his mind about what really happened''

I guess I'd rather be a homer than a jealous douche like Bill Simmons, who by the way is the biggest Celtics homer on planet earth.

when i was supporting dunleavy and vdn from being wrongly labeled the scapegoats, that was a negative? just because most don't agree doesn't meant its a negative.

i bet if the clips were in the celts position and our coach ended up being in a position to chase a ring, most everyone on here would be bashing the poor guy. sure, simmons was a bit unprofessional but his fan perspective was shining through. just because I'm siding with him on that point doesn't mean I'm hating on doc, hating on the clips, etc. it just means I'm siding with simmons when it comes to that specific point.

and not being a homer. (reminds me of all those guys that bash any sportswriter for saying ANYTHING negative about the clippers as if we're some perfect franchise. believe me, reading/hearing that gets old)

Who's being a homer here? Most of the long time posters here like myself, Joe, Mays, CB24, David and many others DO complain or disagree about the franchise at times or certain players. I don't think anybody here is living in a fantasy world haha. Bottom line is Simmons is a di** head and has been badmouthing us consistently for 3 years now. He's a biased party as a diehard Celtics fan so to act like his perspective is the right one isn't accurate. The truth lies somewhere between usually and I'm sure that's the case here. Ainge agreed with Doc it was mostly mutual so who the fu** is Simmons to say differently? He wasn't involved in ANY of the negotiations.

Dude you got to be real with yourself. You embrace negativity and have even at times questioned if winning with a star was worth t because we would be getting bandwagon fans. I am a hardcore clipper supporter and try not to be a homer but bill Simmons is a hater more than people are homers on here. When he runs out of material what is his to to joke... Clippers suck they are cursed can't get anything right, yada yada yada. It just gets old. Last night he showed how lame and really unprofessional he is.

Also for doc, it was up in the air. Simmons is the snl of the sports world. Yeah sometimes the skits are funny but most are old rehashes and most importantly no on takes it seriously because its stupid.

Sure but he's taken a particular interest in badmouthing the Clippers even pre Doc. He started the Blake and CP3 hate each other crap before the season even started. He said we would win 45 max and talked trash about us all year. Not saying we are the only one but DO NOT expect any Clippers fans to be sympathetic for the loser or take sides with him.

He was here in Blake's rookie year rooting for us hard, the minute we get good he rips the organization apart in the media. You probably relate to Simmons because you also seem to like the Clippers a lot more when they are a lotto team than when they are successful. Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought you've said that yourself.

Now... I personally would rather us be bad and collecting assets than be a middle ground team... but with Doc, the draft pick and the aggression of our team to improve now way in hell we remain a perennial 1st or 2nd round team. It's time for everybody, especially ME to start trusting the front office and not ripping them for things we don't know yet. Maybe complain AFTER they screw up instead of off assumptions (I've done this a lot lately and need to stop).

you're giving my posts too much of the spotlight.

but since we're on topic, i would rather root for a team full of bluecollar riff-raff than some egocentric superstar(s). that's just me. that's just my form of entertainment. I'm always for the underdog and that's just the way it is. nothing wrong with that.

simmons' rant last night had nothing to do with the clippers, everything to do with doc and the celtics.

for the record, when everyone was wrongly bashing DTS for being cheap and screwing up the Doc negotiations, who was one of the few guys supporting him? (would that be negative? would that be talking trash? or would that be everyone else?)

when broussard was making reports that could shine a negative light on the clippers, or a report of a transaction that would be bad for the clips, everyone on here was bashing him, calling him a hater who can't be trusted as a credible source. when he reported something positive about us, people ate it up and said nothing about him.

simmons is a sports writer - his job is to write/talk about interesting sports topics w/o regard to praise, hate, etc. he's said good things and bad things about our roster.

and once again, i never said i prefer the losing clippers to the winning clippers. its that i prefer the blue-collar roster to the superstar roster.

I definitely can vouch that you've always backed up DTS. What you're describing is common for fans though. Of course if Broussard writes good articles about us like he used to in Blake's rookie year we will like it and give him props. Doesn't mean when he turns to bashing us relentlessly like flip flop brother Simmons... we won't turn on him. This is standard human behavior, especially for fans. Simmons has a duty as an analyst to maintain a level head and remain unbiased. It's why a fan should NEVER be allowed to be an analyst like that. Magic on the other hand is the first one to rip the Lakers... Simmons is super homer Celtics fan. He should be held to a higher standard than fans on forums.

"tires screeching." believe me, before he matched brand/maggs contracts or the mobley signing, i absolutely despised DTS as a sports owner.

i get what you're saying, but ESPN knew Simmons had a history of being some off-the-wall analyst and decided to put him front and center. Simmons is just being Simmons.

Jalen Rose on the other hand, dude needs to stop making every appearance a karaoke night.

"The truth keeps changing," Simmons said. "I mean he's given different quotes about this. When he sticks to his story, I'll believe the truth." You might have thought that they would just leave it at that, but Rivers was asked about the ongoing feud Friday morning on The Dan Patrick Show. Rivers didn't really hold back when revisiting the situation. "Bill is a fan," Rivers said. "Is he qualified to do the NBA? We can debate that all day. But Bill's a fan. I get that. Not a friend of mine or fan of mine, and he never has been. "I just rarely respond, I don't do it very often, but I had enough of that. I thought it kind of ruined the broadcast last night because he kept bringing it up. It was almost like he had an agenda and I was just getting tired of it."

I've split out the Doc Rivers vs Bill Simmons posts from the draft thread into this new topic. IMO it was embarrassing for ESPN to have Bill Simmons, a Celtics fan, sound off like that. Instead of being thankful for the years of service Doc Rivers provided there, Simmons decided to go into some sort of personal diatribe against Doc Rivers. Bill Simmons thinks he is the expert on truth here, I suppose. I guess he was in the situation room with Ainge and Rivers the whole time that he can deem himself the authority of truth in this matter. roll

Simmons is moron with no conviction. Have you guys been reading his tweets since he found out about Doc possibly going to the Clippers? One of his first tweets was about how the Celtics got what they wanted and how the Celtics don't have to pay 7 million to a coach in a rebuilding process. he talked about going to a "weird" team. He came sounding like the Celtics made out with a unprotected first rounder. I mean, he sounded happy he was gone. Now he goes on National television and acts like a women scorned? While I agree with Ekker on how Doc left, Simmons is the last guy, or shall I say, jealous teenage girl, to come out and try to expose him like that. You think Doc didn't have the right push back like he did? Doc had every right to shut that moron up. Who the **** does he think he is trying to hijack the draft like that when it's about the youngsters going pro? Simmons said some pretty harsh things and I am sure ESPN wanted to give Doc a chance to respond. I am also sure ESPN and the NBA crew are getting tired of his commentary. It's pretty obvious Wilboun (sp?), Rose, and magic dismiss a lot of what he comments on. So again, I don't disagree that there is merit on some of the things Simmons has said but he is the last person to come at him based on what he said when the deal went down.

Then root for another team.

You're either a Clipper fan because you root for the Clippers or you were a Clipper fan because they fit the mold of whatever type of team you like to root for

I'll be a fan if they're a lottery team, underdogs, or if they do the Miami not 1... not 2... not 3.... dance before they've even won anything

Agree with this! Too many so called fans put out conditions on when it's convenient for them to root for the team. It's either you're a clippers fan or not.

Too many so called fans go around saying if we get so and so then I'm done being a clippers fan

i became a clipper fan because they fit the mold of the team i want to root for. all I'm saying is IDEALLY id want the clips to win a ring with blue collar no-spotlight type guys than acquiring mega stars. (even better if we drafted our stars - its why i was really hoping the EJ-BLEd-DJ-BG quartet could've worked out).

and the whole calling out who's a fan and who isn't is getting stale. if you root for the clips, you're a fan. if you don't, you're not. its as simple as that. the whole "im a bigger fan..." thing is straight up nerding out.

I don't claim to be a bigger fan

I just claim to be a fan period and you haven't been acting like one lately

You were being negative when the Clippers arguably took the biggest step in franchise history and hired the most respected coach in the NBA and gave him the biggest contract in the NBA

Now you're saying I like rooting for the underdog and stuff like that and it sounds like you have to convince yourself to root for this team

That was my dream also when we had D Miles & Odom, but now I realized there's no team that can do that now. OKC came close, 80's Celtics did it. That's just not how the league is now, players will leave a team if they don't look good in the teams colors...etc

Can't happen. I've accepted that and now we are in a great position to win the new blue print of the league.

RT @brohrbach: Doc on @WEEI about @BillSimmons: "He did everything he could to get me fired. Wrote letters, wanted to sit down w/ owners to talk about it."

@BillSimmons: The quote I just retweeted is an outright, 100 percent lie. I'd be careful, Glenn. Seriously. Stop talking. You are making sh*t up.

I don't care for Simmons - at all - but Doc needs to let it go. A respected, decorated coach does not need to respond to a glorified blogger who happens to be on TV now. If people ask him about Simmons, he should just say he's not addressing it or just ignore the question completely.

I agree with simmons that doc quit on the C's but they also didn't want him there. Mutual end to their situation. And i agree with Doc calling Simmons an idiot, bc he is. It should have ended there. Simmons keeping it going and bashing Doc is VERY unprofessional and juvenile but when you're known for talking **** on the internet and then you put him in front of a camera, what do you expect to happen? It is nice to see the other analysts just blowing Simmons off when he whines, or taunting him him when his favorite team is blown up. Can you imagine everyone laughing at Magic when the lakers were having all those problems? would never happen.

All in all, Doc was fine defending himself at this point but needs to let it go now. Simmons needs to act like an analyst and not a blogger on the bleacher report.

Haha ya think? He has done nothing but rip on rivers and now is defending bs, the biggest clipper hater of all. I would just prefer to not voice out my support of someone who is that anti. But with all that said bill Simmons pretends to be an insider but he is really just a sad sideshow who is fueled with venom and doesn't have very many facts. Honestly wouldn't be surprised if he isn't invited to a broadcast for a while. The station doesn't want to see that type of personal vitriol, I would imagine at least. IMO he looked very foolish

It sounds like its not the clippers you like but the idea of a group of lovable losers who played their butts off and anytime they win its awesome even if its the last game of the season and they aren't making the playoffs. I actually get that, it's a less disappointing fanship and allows for a lot of hope. Who doesn't love hope:)

Nah, ESPN loves that kind of behavior. Just look at how one of their gol boys John Ireland rips on the Clippers. After this stunt they probably gave him a raise
