Matt Barnes is drawing free agent interest from the Los Angeles Lakers, according to executives.

Barnes played two seasons for the Lakers before signing with the Los Angeles Clippers last offseason.

The Clippers are also interested in re-signing Barnes.

Barnes averaged 10.3 points and 4.6 rebounds last season

Damn, a bidding war?

I hope Barnes doesn't care about $ and signs with us regardless. The Lakers had their chance to re-sign him, and it seems like he really didn't like to play the Lakers way. Which was shoot where you're told only when you're told, and if you miss, you hit the bench. He said, "It's no way to play.".

The most the Lakers can offer him is the tax payers mid level exception which is 3years/9.5million. I would gladly match that offer and bring him back. We would then have up to 3years/6.3million to spend on another player.

3 years for a 33 year old Barnes might be a bit much, but I would assume at least one year wouldn't be guaranteed. I'm a bit weary of using over half the MLE on Barnes even though I really do like him.

I doubt the lakers would offer him the full tax payers mle for 3 years. They want to get younger and since Barnes is 33, I doubt they would use that for him. We should be able to retain him over the lakers if money is an issue.

Barnes would be insane to dump a clear title contender for a team that will be contending for a top draft pick!

The only reason I see him signing with the Lakers is if the Clippers don't resign him! I believe Matt has a Championship over Money, hopefully he resigns!! The reason he would sign with Lakers is because it would save him money and he wouldn't have to move and He loves LA and thats why I see the Clippers and Lakers as only two options! Plus, his wife will have a huge say-so in this because she currently stars in a reality TV show named Basketball Wives LA!!! All indicates to LA ,either team.

Barnes played great under D'Antoni and is good friends with Kobe. If they offer more money I wouldn't be surprised or mad if he chose to sign with them.

Barnes never played under D'Antoni lol. I think you mean Mike Brown and Barnes hated Mike Brown.

Barnes is not good friends with Kobe. Nothing suggests that at all. He even tried to get into a fight with him before he joined the Lakers. He respects him yes but friends? No. Not to mention the Lakers can't offer much money either. So between the two franchises we should be more appealing if the money is equal.

EDIT: My bad bro. He played under Gentry. Still he plays well in the up-tempo system.

And I guess I don't know for sure what their relationship is but they seem to be just fine with eachother since they've played together.

He did play with Steve Nash. That was the only other time he averaged 10 points per game, but that was with a prime Steve Nash. He ain't getting the same numbers with a washed-up Nash.

I don't think 3 years is too much for him. Think about it, he wil be 33,34,35 years old during that contract. That is not too bad, considering he keeps himself in fantastic shape and is one of those guys that has got better with age. He runs the floor very well and he has a great vertical leap for a 33 year old. I think he may have benefited from playing 4 years in college and not being a big minute guy over the course of his career. He is a good role player for this particular team and it also helps that he has played (with success) in Gentry's offensive system. I would give him the 3 years/ 9.4 million and use the other 3 years/ 6.3 million on another player.

I remember someone in one of the gameday threads posted that Barnes yelled "This is our f***ing town now" at the Laker fans during the game against the Lakers. He needs to stay.

Matt was on Fox 11 the other night, he said he talked to Doc and Doc told him he was a priority after CP3. If the Clips and Lakers offer him a similar deal, I have no doubts he'll stay with the Clips. He did mention that there is an East Coast team also interested in him.

He aint going back to the Lakers. Remember when he said how much he hated it there? If he wants more money than we can offer him, he'll go to another team (not the Lakers)

Saw the same thing. He talked like he was confident that he is staying.I just hope we don't over pay him.As much as I like Barnes he is 33 and has had a little trouble with injuries throughout his career.

I like Matt Barnes.... saying that.. I really hope Reggie Bullock is what I think he'll be.. I know other people don't think he'll amount to anything much.. but.. idk.. I'm a glass half full type of guy.. I always think the best until proven wrong.

with all this free agent talk, people forget that barnes was a KEY part of our success last year. it shouldn't be "oh we can't give matt barnes the money he's looking for" it should be "we NEED to give matt barnes the money he's looking for". hoping he settles for a cheap payday just to stick around is a total sign of disrespect.

matt deserves a raise.

Agree 100%.

Matt Barnes played harder last year than he did in his whole career! He impressed me. I thought he was one of the few players on the team that played hard every night!

What a difference a year makes in regards to whether Barnes should be playing for the Clippers.

Yeah I do. I remember the mob with pick forks at my computer when I bought up the idea last year that he would be a good addition to the team...especially for the $.

Barnes could leave because he did play there for awhile. And if the Lakers are stupid enough to overpay for Barnes and offer him like 3 years or more then let him go. I'd love Barnes to re-sign I really would, but I wouldn't go into a bidding war against the Lakers who are just trying to be jerks at this point because Dwight Howard is leaving and clearly thinks the Lakers aren't title contenders. That's hilarious considering the Lakers to me are more title ready than the Rockets of the Mavericks, but Dwight apparently doesn't think so and THAT is saying something about the chemistry and skill the Lakers have from someone who spent a year inside their organization.

Me thinks the Lakers are about ready to implode. How much you want to bet they get Bargnani and other mediocre overpaid players and collapse slowly like a flan in a cupboard?

Well hopefully the Clippers offer Barnes enough cash to make him happy. He played hard every night, deserves a starting spot and more cash without a question. I know we're not going to be able to offer him exactly what he wants but hopefully the front office can come to terms with him. He needs to be the next contract getting written up after Chris Paul's

Well Barnes would be their best player to start the year for the lakers the way they are going. Sad but true. Kobe hurt, howard gone, metta sucks, pau is losing his skills. Barnes might be their go to guy. LOL

Nash can't even stay on the floor anymore. The Lakers are done. Time to go into rebuilding mode like the Celtics

Them being done and Barnes being their leading scorer are not the same thing though, but yes, they are done.
