David, is the format (completely reversed- Avatar/tab) permanent? Just curious because up to now, all the changes have been brilliant. Reversing a universal forum/message board layout is really tough on the eyes and getting used to. Maybe I am in the minority here but it feels like I'm driving a right-hand drive car on American streets. lol

Not trying to knock this, just giving my input.

Not at all Joe- I made it like that so that the the posts are on the left side which makes it especially easier to read if you are on a smaller screen (like a phone). It takes a little getting used to, but I'm sure you will eventually. It still looks kind of odd to me too. I just want everyone to give this look a chance. If after two weeks or so everyone totally dislikes it, then sure I can certainly switch it back.

Actually- I'm going to switch back now, lol. It was starting to give me eye strain looking to the right for the user avatar, and then to the left for the post. If there is overwhelming response for the avatar-on-the-right look, let me know. I highly doubt it.

I might add in a mobile-device detection logic and if it knows you are using a browser on a cell, use that avatars on the right template instead.

Nice. But if you decide to go back, it's all good. Needless to say, I prefer this way a lot more.

Okay this is what I have done- people browsing with smaller screens (less than 800px max) will get chubbier fonts and if you are on a phone, it will put the avatars on the right side so you don't have to scroll to the right to see the entire post. If there is any feedback on how the threads look on a phone, please feel free to let me know- thanks guys!

I think in forum view (as opposed to a single thread view) the avatars cause too much vertical scrolling. I personally noticed this recently and thought it makes it less than ideal on a mobile device, and even on my 28" monitor at 1920x1280 it's less than ideal. However, it doesn't appear that the culprit ( .postdetails img{ } ) is differentiated in css between the two views, so some minor coding changes would need to be done to the php that generates the page views so that you could modify one without it removing the avatars from the thread view. I would just make sure that your <tr> height is enough that people don't get annoyed with clicking on the wrong row if they have big thumbs like I do.

Below is an example with and then without (I simply did a "display:none" on img tags, which you wouldn't want to do, but it was a quick and dirty way to show the example). I dunno... just my thoughts on readability and functionality. If I can help in any way, let me know. I have experience coding against PHPBB and other board systems.

Thanks for the comments 1clipperfan! Well, the main reason I put in mini avatars is to make the forum pages look less plain. What I'm going to do is to remove those avatars if it detects that a visitor is logged it, since most of the feedback I've heard echoes your sentiment.
