The Los Angeles Clippers will meet with Carl Landry on Tuesday night.

Landry opted out of his contract after another strong season, this time with the Golden State Warriors.

Landry was a favorite of Chris Paul during their time together with the New Orleans Hornets.

Horrible for team chemistry. I'm pretty sure Blake hates him. Especially after what he said about David Lee and Blake.

Those players never challenged Blake's playing ability.

Uh... He might be the best backup big in basketball, fills a huge need and made MLE last year. Well worth MLE. Then use other pieces to trade for a SG, sign a couple minimum guys and our roster is great. People worried about Blake need to know he only cares about winning. Him and Landry have had on court scuffles but nothing like Odom and Barnes who he welcomed from day one.

Would be a great pickup for us. I think Blake would be just fine with him because Blake is mature unlike most of the nba

Landry would be a great sign for part of the mle. Then we can use the other part to resign Barnes. And trade Bledsoe and butler for a good SG.

I like Carl Landry think he is going to be too expensive though. I think Elton Brand fits a similar mold, but better defensively. I also like Jermaine O'neal and think if we could trade for redick and get Henson included we could get a young player that can fit the mold.

I don't want to spend the mle on landry and be done, if we can get brand and oneal for less, or earl clark who you probably can play at small forward if needed and can shoot the three decently.. If that's the case why don't we just get blatche who can play the 4 or 5.

It would be huge to get Landry. Probably a guy we can't afford but I'm glad they're looking at frontcourt depth.

Carl Landry is a good player, but will likely cost the entire MLE. If he would come for half of that, that would be great, but it's unlikely since he just opted out of $4 mil.

This might be a hard pill to wallow but not all of these players youre talking about want to come here. For instance, Brand wants to go to New york and has been talking about how much he likes what's going n up there. Blatche already agreed to a deal with the nets. At no point have the Bucks offered us henson nor will they. The reddick deal is considered not likely, just exploring options. Oneal hasn't been mentioned once in talks so its also very likely that he has no interest or that our FO has no interest in him. Would you rather buy a lot of decent players or get the best 7 or 8 that you can and run with that? Id rather have one awesome back up than 2 so so back ups.

Quality > Quantity

Who considers the Reddick deal unlikely?

Great player, like his game, but to maximize him and Blake they have to play together and that's a really small front court. He would fit better if Blake could adequately switch to C. Still like him and wouldn't complain at the right price, but obviously that has to be taken into account.

Blake at C is a horrible idea.

I agree, but I don't mean starting, I mean as a backup Landry can get about 12 minutes behind Blake if they both just play PF, so to make it work, you'll have to go small about 8 MPG, 4 minutes a half with Blake at C and Landry at PF. So then Landry plays 20 MPG and Blake stays at about 36 MPG

You don't really want to use half or all your MLE on a guy and only play him 12 MPG, that would be pretty awful value.

Clippers have also talked w/Bucks about Bledsoe-for-Refick but source says chances of that trade happening are "remote"

sorry, remote, not unlikely.... not a whole lot of a difference tho.

Jerediscool- I agree with you on quality over quantity, I just want quality at more than one position. I know that not all players want to come here, I would just like us to make a pitch at some of these guys (which alone might not make all the difference in the world, but would help).

I just feel if we get landry for the full mle we will lack in other positions. So you have one quality back up for blake, but who is the starting small forward or shooting guard ( I think we will only resolve one or the other with a trade). Back to your point that not everyone wants to come here, it will be hard to convince a quality small forward to come here for the minimum. I'd rather trade for oj mayo, afflalo, or redick and something; then split the mle between a quality small forward and backup big.

Landry is all offense and no defense really. I understand trying to evaluate certain players on the market but why aren't we more aggressively pursuing a SG or SF?

Trading for redick and dudley makes me want landry less. I agree with amnesty_stern on landry on him being more offense less defense. I am not convinced dudley is the solution at the 3. I would rather get a player who can play two positions convincingly.

The Los Angeles Clippers are still pursuing free agent Carl Landry. They're hoping to sign him for the mid-level exception ($5.15 million)

dam the full mid level? if landry takes that deal then I'm afraid about our depth. our back up pg, sf, and center will be so weak. where did all our depth go? I'm not even fully convinced about our starting line up..

Landry would have been great, but we need to address depth. speights is close to being the same player and much cheaper. we can then resign barnes and possibly a backup pg.

Not really, Speights isn't a very good offensive player.

He might not be as good as landry or at least not as efficient, but i wouldn't say he's not good offensively. He can shoot the mid range shot, and last year he made some important shots against us.

I get the impression that we will sign a guy to the full MLE, and we will bank on the following:

We have 2 All Stars, finished 1 game out of being the 3 seed. Were 1 game from round 2 of the playoffs in a series we likely would have won, which would mean Conference Finals. We just got one of the better coaches in the game, traded our best asset for 2 starters. We play in Los Angeles, a giant market. We play in Los Angeles, home to Hollywood personnel.

That being said, the front office will likely look towards veteran players to come in and fill out the roster. Jermaine O'Neal type guys. Former All-Star players or borderline All-Star guys looking for a shot at a ring.

Landry has put good numbers during his whole career and at this point he would be starter in many NBA teams. We need punch inside and right now we only have Griffin as someone reliable. He can provide points and rebs and he is a nice FT shooter. I would use the full MLE for a quality player like him.

We were terrible beaten inside during last PO. BG once he can't run and jump is a non factor, and I suppose it's not necessary to recall DJs off game. The rest of the frontcourt bench, with the exception of Hollins, was simply awful.

I wouldn't be surprised if Landry commands notably more than MLE on the market--skilled big men are at a premium. Despite the potentially high price tag, I hope the Clippers are able to sign him. The problem is the Clippers also need to find depth in the PG position and I seriously doubt Landry would sign for less than MLE.

from stein:

Clippers & Carl Landry, I'm told, in serious contract talks. Hearing Clips optimistic, but question is: Will it cost 'em whole mid-level?'

I'm hoping Landry works out - he'd be PERFECT for the team - a true stretch big who is familiar w/ CP3. Then just sign Jermaine O'Neal as a backup C and we are good to go.

CP3

Redick

Dudley

BG

DJ (please please improve this summer)

Wayns/Someone else

Crawford/Green

Barnes (if we can)

Landry

O'Neal/Hollins

That isn't a bad squad at all. Still not sure we can beat LeBron with it, but I think we will be competitive with Spurs/Thunder.

Hope it does not cost us the whole MLE but I think it will. Yes, resign Odom for vet min, and hopefully Barnes takes a hometown discount.

I think Barnes will return, just have a feeling he wants to stay - he should know we just don't have the funds to offer him more than a shade above the vet min. And honestly, he's not worth the full mid-level, he lacks the consistency to justify that. Crawford, when hot, does so much fo ra team that he is worth that exception.

Landry is such a hard one for me. Love his game, love the offense he brings, but I don't love the combination of Landry and Blake on defense. If my PF was Tim Duncan, then yea, I easily slide Duncan to C and Landry is great. If my PF is Blake, it's a totally different situation. If Blake could shoot three's and play SF, lol, then again it's a different situation.

I want Blake at PF as much as possible, not at C, but that's the same situation with Landry.

I think enough offense has been amassed and defense needs to be focused on.
