i am very excited. ive always been a redick fan since his days at duke. i can't wait til the trade becomes official so i can buy his jersey. lol. i hate to see ebled go, because outside of griffin, he was my fave clipper. but i realize that he deserves to start in this league, and he will get his chance. i also feel sad for butler, since he is a pros pro, but I'm happy we get dudley, another guy i wanted here. i honestly feel that these two players will get us to the finals. i also see cp3 or bg winning mvp, because they will put up ridiculous numbers with the floor being so spaced out. shooting was a problem for the clips, but now thats resolved.

This trade, in a nutshell, I would say doesn't have a definitive amount of significance as you wish to be, --on paper. but the potential is definitely there.

The bigger picture of all this is that these boys are rolling under Doc Rivers+Gentry. Their force will be recognized this coming season.

I keep reading some ridiculous stories about Butler being better than Dudley. Caron was on the decline from the moment he signed and is basically useless half the time. Now we get a motivated guy, whom Gentry knows (I think he had a huge hand in this trade). The SG/SF rotation looks very good, especially if we can get Barnes to stay. I think we are keeping DJ now for sure and we can only hope does wonders with him, otherwise we are not getting to the finals, period. If we get the Orlando Redick, I think Blake will flourish as well. We wanted a third star player, but we got two very solid starters instead. Now it's up to Doc to get some bench help, especially a big, because by the looks of it we are dead in the water if something happens to Blake!

The offense needs to be balanced with defense, to me it seems like this would require moving Crawford. I know a lot of people won't like that idea. Players to acquire: Carlos Delfino or Francisco Garcia, Earl Clark or Metta, a backup PG

1) Trade Crawford to the Lakers (because I know he really wants to be in LA and I wouldn't want to send him away) to sign and trade Clark (2 years/$5-6M), use Duhon to match contracts, saves MLE

2) Sign and start a guy like Garica or Delfino (2 years /$5-6M, second year team option)

3) Get a defensive PF/C (re-sign Odom for the minimum, Brand?, JO?)

4) If no Duhon, pick up a PG, and maybe stil with Duhon (Bobby Brown?)

5) Play Redick as the 6th man / bench scorer and ball handler.

Option 1:

Paul / Duhon

Delfino / Redick

Dudley / Bullock / Clark

Griffin / Clark / Odom

Jordan / Odom

Get a better balance of defense and offense while still maintaining shooting. Clark is a good defensive player

Would we ever trade with the Lakers? Forget Odom

If we learned one thing from Redick, it's that he is better starting than coming off the bench. The guy thinks he is a starting guard and moving Crawford for a piece of Laker junk makes no sense at all. Crawford will be the scoring spark off the bench. He is much different type of player to Redick.

Earl Clark is a good defender and hustle player I would hardly call him junk. How many SFs can average 8 rebounds per 36 minutes? The only problem is his shooting but it looks like he is working on that. If he can be a steraky shooter like Barnes that wouldn't be too bad.

Earl Clark would be perfect if we can't get Landry. He's a stretch 4 who can play 3, or other way around. He's extremely physical in the paint and on the glass.

BTW those saying Redick and Dudley aren't starters need to dig deeper. 14 ppg and 11 ppg under bad coaches is good for your 3rd and 4th options. They are PERFECT complimentary starters to Blake and CP3 because they are unselfish and won't force a ton of bad shots like Billups/Butler. I expect a big scoring resurgence from Blake as a result and CP3 will get less exhausted in games.

10 ppg

23 ppg

10 ppg

14 ppg

17 ppg

Is what our starting lineup will ideally look like scoring wise. DJ and Blake's scoring up, Redick and Dudley around the same (better coach now to get shots BUT play with two superstars) and Paul pretty much scoring same but also assisting more.

Clark does rebound, but it will be a lot of fun watching him guard a 3 like Durant for example. The guy is a typical back-up PF - a Reggie Evans with a shot basically!

I'm with you clippersfan86. this is going to spread the floor for blake and CP3 bigtime. we just need that backup PG for cp3 to get a breather. i don't want him tired out by the playoffs.

What I like about Redick is that guy is CONSTANTLY moving without the ball. He's one of those guys that makes me wonder where he gets the energy. And that's something that's been sorely missing from our game. Too many times people were standing around when Blake or CP3 had the ball. I think Doc sees a little bit of Ray Allen in this guy. Don't get me wrong, not saying he's as good, but he basically offers similar style perimeter support. I'd be very disappointed if Redick ends up coming off the bench. This guy needs to start. By the way, Redick may look a whole lot better if he's actually on a better team than the Magic or the Bucks. He also strikes me as a guy who will at least work hard on defense, especially under the right coach. Hopefully all are players will work hard for Doc. Look, I was willing to start Willie for his solid shooting. Redick is BETTER. I don't like to admit that because I like Willie a lot. But if we were winning with Willie in the starting lineup (and certainly better than when Billups started), then we should be even better with Redick.

With Dudley, it feels to me like we have a slight upgrade from Caron. It's almost a lateral move, except Caron's age and past injuries have slowed him down to the point that a guy like Dudley will be better for us.

I'm curious to see what moves we have left.

Cuz afflalo can impact the game without scoring. Reddick when he's off is as useless as Caron or billups. The best shooter in the playoff tend to get shot down when they don't have anything to offer.

We have one Very Happy. I seem to be the only one who think Malik Wayns deserves a shot. Last year he was great every minute he got and this summer NOBODY has worked harder. The guy was in the gym like 1 week after the season ended and has went out of his way to hang out with and bond with his teammates, going to everybody's camps etc. Give him a shot for the minimum, he can do it people.

Redick can impact the game in multiple ways as well. He is a good playmaker and even if he is not shooting well opposing teams have to leave a man on him because you never want to leave a shooter of that caliber open. You are acting like he is completely one dimensional like Steve Novak and has difficulty getting his shot off. This is not the case.

Regardless Dudley is every bit as good as Afflalo. Better even. They are both decent defenders and Dudley is better offensively and has better overall stats.

Btw to those who say Dudley is not much better than Butler....

Dudley

Butler

Yea better by a significant margin....

Actually Redick isn't a much worse defender than Afflalo and is a much better playmaker, not awful rebounder for his size. So I definitely do not agree that when not shooting lights out he's worthless. JJ is a guy who doesn't go cold if left wide open BTW. His bad shooting games become more frequent when he's expected to carry a bad team. On this team he just needs to relax and hit open shots.

Remember all the sets Boston used to run for Ray Allen?JJ will be coming off those same screens. Clips half court O will be much improved.

Final thought- there is no better chemistry guy in the NBA than Dudley- tough, hilarious, and selfless. Teammates LOVE playing with J.D.

One thing we must all consider here is what would Redick be like with the best PG in the league next to him. He has never played with a PG who has the pass or vision of CP3. The guy won't be shut down in playoffs, because if a team tries so hard to shut him down, CP3 will get even more freedom and Dudley at the three can be a reliable 3rd option on his day! Redick is the first official Doc move, so I guess we should trust the coach here as he probably knows more about Redick than we do.

Yea Dudley like Afflalo is a do everything type. Suns fans in waves have told me that when he is really motivated (when Suns were in playoffs) he elevates his defense to a near ELITE level but that the last couple years he's let up a little bit with the Suns sucking so bad. He's only 27 so not a decline and a change of scenery will wake this guy up. Doc will pull him aside 1 on 1 and convince him that he is THE defensive stopper on the team and that we need him every night to guard the Lebron's etc.

Both solid if somewhat "boring" players. I hope we still have some swagger! Looking at those Redick videos reminds me how ludicrous our 3 point defense was...i mean seriouslyw wide open.

You watch those mixes? Dudley and Redick have WAY more swag than Bledsoe and Butler (both low key guys) did. Always more boring when you get rid of a guy like Bledsoe who was our most entertaining player.

Haha most people never watched earl Clark. He was a lottery pick for a reason great passer for his size can play sf to center and is a good shooter, rebounder and defender. He is anything but a Reggie Evans because Evans works hard whil earl Clark has always been lazy. If he plays as hard as he did for the fake show he is easily worth the full mle. Would love to have him on this squad

I don't find his energy boring at all. And he's open in a lot of those highlights because he's always moving. Did you see that one move where he fed the ball to the high post player and looked to cut to the basket, but changed his mind, stopped in his tracks, then backed up behind the arc to get the ball back and nail the jumper? That was pretty sweet.

Jared Dudley supposedly has the best/most athletic hands in the NBA which if you watch the mix you'll see right away. Dude just makes plays with the hands that shouldn't happen. Like getting a jumpball that the opponent tipped to somebody else. He has crazy mitts.

I do not like this trade... But I will give it a chance. I do like Dudley though... I was very LOW on Reddick... Hopefully he will change my mind. I'm not sure we improved defensively which is what we really needed.. but maybe we can just outscore people instead of playing good defense... ha. jk

You should for sure give it a chance. We came out like bandits in this trade. Both guys are good defenders and can shoot. They also don't have the ego and role confusion that a guylike oj mayo would have. If you think either player isn't very good, you probably havent seen them play more than once or twice over the last few years because they are good players and a perfect fit for this team.

You are correct.. the only time I've seen them play is when they play the Clippers. I was more impressed with Dudley... Not so much Reddick.. but like I said.. I'll give it a chance. I'm still partial to Beasley though lol.

Okay, no one wants to trade with the Lakers, but Earl Clark is still a good option at backup SF/PF/C. I only wanted the Lakers trade because you still preserve your MLE, keep Crawford in LA where he likes, and get a useful player. You aren't increasing salary (bringing in $4.5M, sending out $5M+) and you can waive Duhon if you want. Crawford will probably kill the Cippers in some games, but it's okay.

http://www.orlandopinstripedpost.com/20 ... k-analysis

You can read a little about what he can do defensively from his time in Orlando. He was also on of the Lakers only good defenders this season. He's not a very good 3PT shooter or a very efficienct scorer, but he can improve, and 32.4% isn't terrible, just need work. He will still make defenses spread out a little despte his meh percentages from range. He can probably be had for about $3M/year.

@botev921, if J.J. is better as a starter, then starting him is fine too, bu what supports this. He played 50 games for the Magic last season, only stared 11 games. His per 36 was: 17/3/5/.592 TS% as a 31.5 MPG bench guy. I think it's minutes, not bench or starting for him.

11-12 he put up 15/3/3/.575 TS% per 36 starting 25/66 games and playing 27.2 MPG. He was better as a starter on 11-12, but last season there was no difference between his production as a starter vs bench player

^ How do we get Clark? I guarantee some team will offer him over the MLE, possibly Cleveland.

I like Clarke because of his versatility, but the price might be too much.

Yea, that's always the issue, is his market price full MLE? I would think it would be less if a guy like Landry got a $4M contract last season and had $3M per year on his previous one
