How Rivers and Paul might work the pick-and-roll By D.J. Foster | Aug 2, 2013 8:55 AM Doc Rivers' emphasis on options out of the pick-and-roll may benefit Chris Paul. The resounding complaint about the Los Angeles Clippers offense under former head coach Vinny Del Negro was that it lacked creativity and structure. The Clippers kept things simple for the most part, relying on their talent to make the most out of very vanilla offensive sets. Maybe it wasn't aesthetically pleasing or overly difficult for defenses to figure out, but the isolated results were still impressive. The Clippers ranked fourth in offensive efficiency each....

I absolutely can't wait. It really ticked me off how we never really set screens and when we did they were so obvious that they weren't very effective.

I think structure with flexibility is always the best way to go. Have a plan, but also be willing to read and react and to have an option if things break down. Chris Paul is in the top percentile of guys in the league in terms of creating plays from nothing

Yeah it is really exciting to think of the plays of Doc combing with the super high BBall IQ of CP3. Can't wait.

Can't wait! Sidenote- I'm also intrigued to see how Doc uses Jamal Crawford, Vinny just kinda let him be free, wonder what Doc will do...

Use him more as a shooter coming off screens.

Yeah you'll probably see a huge reduction of Crawford's isos, which is kindof Crawford's signature ability. Using him strictly as a shooter (which isn't really his greatest strength) will probably not be a worthwhile utilization in the longrun.

Which leads to speculation that he may be expendable on the wing in a trade for a big later in the season. His 5.2 mill salary plus the 2.6 TPE would give us some flexibility in a trade. Now to find a team with an expendable, with a gap at the SG, and worthwhile big with a salary within 7.8 million...

bingo.one thing about crawford is that he relies a lot on foot work and that crossover to elude and fool defenders. he rarely shoots off a shot right away and was certainly allowed a great deal of freedom. crawford has a lot of trade value as well so we may get a lot of fish biting on that line

Crawford is our only trade option at this point since he won't be a all star like performer this year with Doc Rivers. I believe Bullock will be a solid 2 of the bench
