Unless I get some official word, I'm gonna assume he just got banged up a little.

I'm bot big on dunking in a practice. Blake needs to chill.

Mullens looked bad 86. Even in drills, Gentry had to address him once to retry a drill. Jamison looked good though. This guy may be something else. He wasn't in the whole time, but the dude was sharp when he was in.

As a whole we look good defensively, but offensively we are missing a lot of shots we look sloppy from the perimeter.

Blake was limping but he was able to walk it off and he was able to bend it..

Hmmm...okay. Sounds like he should be fine. Is it me or does it seem like he needs to take it easy in practice? I mean I don't need to hear about him getting injured in practice or before the season even starts.

Blake is clearly obsessed with dunking and trying to jump over everyone. My fear is he'll never change until he can't do those things. I bet he loves the crowd's reaction when he dunks. What other reason is there to dunk in practice? Just chill and get ready for the season.

Blake needs to be more careful. His style of play is too reckless. Its a scrimmage for christ sakes.

Repped High Quality Post

Dj on the other hand was fantastic. He made all his freethrows he was very active on defense and he had great blocks specially when DC thought he had a free lane and he came out of nowhere. The difference between the scrimmage this year and the one from the past is everyone looked more serious in this practice and you can feel the intensity of our defense instead of playing showtime full on iso basketball now you can actually see a lot of traps and plays being run over and over again which is a plus and Dj and Blake would joke around when coach are talking but now they look all mature and serious and they're the one setting good example for the new players. Kudos on our coaching staff

Thanks AJ & AK for the informative scrimmage updates- repped!

Blake getting banged up there sounds a bit scary but hopefully he will be fine. Wonder if he got fouled too hard or was it just a regular hit.

My source was a twitter buddy in the front row. Doesn't sound serious though, probably just a tweak for Blake. This is why we need Redick and Bullock bad (the bad shooting). If Dudley doesn't get going maybe Barnes will start. They are so close to equals anyways it doesn't matter who starts.

Blake was not being the old Blake of diving everywhere, etc. I felt he was working hard on defense and set plays. The last play where he got hurt was a set play for him. A few seconds left and the starters were down 2 points so a dunk by Blake would have been perfect ending for fans.... hopefully it is minor... but like I said a lot of things to look forward to in terms of the team!

According to this write-up by Eric Patten, Amundson was the one who gave the hard foul. SMH Amundson....

I was kinda disappointed on Jd tho.. I havent seen him made a three from the preason game last monday nor in this scrimmage game. I canstill see matt barnes replacing to start. Darren collison was beast today.. I like how quick he is (probably faster than e bled and more in control plus he can shoot too but not stronger) and giving CP a hard time in practice, the 2nd stringer won because of his DC's defense.

I'm sure JD will be fine. That guy is as consistent from 3 as they come. It may be just a matter of getting JJ back so they can both get open looks.

While you don't want players hurt in practice, Blake will get hard fouls in games and you want, pretty much need, your practices to be harder and more physical than games. Even though they often have refs for practices/scrimmages, they usually call them looser so players get used to playing through contact and dealing with the frustration of physical play.

Hopefully Blake is ok (obviously) but as long as its not a cheap shot, I am all for physical play in team practices.

I don't think it was a cheap shot.. It was a good physical D by Lou but hopefully blake is okay

So nobody seems to care that the starters lost AGAIN. The backups keep killing them Even w/o Reddick, Blake and CP should be enough. Sounds like Blake isn't holding up his end.

I was looking at Open Court on NBATV, and Isaiah Thomas called Karl Malone the weak link on the Jazz. He said because you could not count on him to make fts. I immediately thought of Blake. Very underwhelming so far.

not concerned at all. Starters played well in the first preseason game and the bench looked lethargic.

We need to keep Amundson. I knew he would be a perfect fit and even a good goon to have if need be. He doesn't mean to be dirty but he's not going to let anybody punk him. I was reading on Twitter that him and Darren Collison had really good chemistry together.

Anyone who's watched Blake knows he hits his free throws when it counts, at least in the playoffs. He hit big time FT's 2 years ago against Memphis and was 81% in last year's playoffs. He should be even better this year than last based on how his FT's looked already. He was one of the leaders in last night's scrimmage so I wouldn't conclude Blake wasn't "holding up his end". He may have missed his first FT at the end because he was banged up. Then he intentionally missed the second. Also we don't know how well he did defensively against his man.

So I wouldn't go with the Blame Blake argument just yet.

The good news is I've heard no news whatsoever about Blake today! No news is usually good news.

On the other hand, Sports Center's top story was how great Dwight Howard looked last night with his 9 points and 3 boards.

I agree with you Purpose, no need to be concerned especially since it was just a scrimmage.

BTW, Isaiah Thomas HATES Karl Malone, of course he is going to call him a weak link!

What's interesting about Doc talking about his team keeping positive and showing disappointment when they turn the ball over or miss a free throw is...THIS IS A SCRIMMAGE! It's not even a "real" game and they're taking it so seriously. I mean in a way that's a positive. They obviously want to impress the coach and buy in to the system.

I've been on teams with intense scrimmages, I love it, I mean you don't want to lose whether it's practice or not. You get bragging rights.

I actually love the second team winning, puts pressure on the starters, it's great.

If Jamison plays the style that he did with the Lakers last season, three's and at the rim, he's a great offensive big man floor spacer for this team.

The little highlight clip tricked me because it showed Mullens hit a pull up after getting DJ in the air. My expectations were already low, but when a guy is on the team I still hope they shatter all expectations and be great though of course I understand that isn't real life.

Loved the vocal nature of DJ that was shown, but he was getting off his feet a bit too much.

One thing I like about Jamison is that he's good practice for Blake. The team hasn't had any other good offensive big men the last two seasons, so it's been more of a rest for Blake in practice in terms of guarding his man. Odom, Martin, Evans, Turiaf. Those guys don't make you guard, but Jamison, he'll stick it on you of you don't play D and he moves without the ball a lot,

Man just shows how much the bar has lowered for Dwight. It was in one quarter right?

9/3 in one quarter though, that's good production.

Not related, but Channing Frye sighting yesterday. 14 pts, 5/6 FG, 3/4 3PT in 16 minutes. I still drool at the idea of him being the Clippers backup big man.

I just saw the video- yeah by all means it was not a cheap shot. He went for the ball, challenged the shot and Blake just landed a bit awkwardly. So yeah Amundson didn't do anything wrong there.

Nm it was 9/3 in an actual preseason game in 20ish minutes. Were they being sarcastic lol?

I don't think so. They seemed to fall in love with his one block and a couple of moves saying, "he's been working with Hakeem!".

He played almost 24 minutes. He's a decent player but hardly the kind of performance that should have topped the show. lol

Working with Hakeem won't help Dwight much if at all. Defensively he can't get much better and he can't replicate Hakeem offensively. His movements are too mechanical and lack fluidity and he doesn't have a strong jump shot/fadeaway like Hakeem did. His offensive game is built for power while Hakeem's offensive game was predicated on skill and finesse.

There's no structural damage in Griffin's knee and no timetable for his return.

Dammit.

I mean I'm glad there's no structural damage, but dammit! It didn't even look like he landed all that awkwardly...at least no moreso than usual.

For the record, I'm also completely cool w/ what Lou did. This is how defenses are going to play BG all year, so he's going to have to learn to adjust to it. Play smarter.

Anyways, get better Griffin!

It wouldn't be an official offseason if Blake didn't somewhat damage his knee. What is this like the 4th time in 5 years or something? He'll be ready to go though. I'm not worried at all.

the way some people were describing it, I thought Lou pulled blake down or something. Nope, saw the video. He just went up to block the shot. I'm okay with it.

I think the BG injury deserves its own thread at this point...

Voyeur mentioned that BG needs to start wearing some supportive kneepads, and after reading more about bone bruises, kneepads come highly recommended. You think a professional athlete can have one custom made to support his knee while not hindering mobility as much??

Also, he needs to just play smarter and cool down with the dunks if they're not necessary. Lay it up if it's more efficient. Stop jumping up and "goaltending" players shots after the whistle, basically decrease any traumatic impact to his knees if it's not necessary, etc..... He can still do the crowd-pleasing dunks from time to time, but for him to have a long career, he's going to have to evolve his game sooner or later... hopefully sooner..
