ESPN has released projections for the 2013-2014 western standings. Some of these standings will not sit well with some of us, but at the very least ESPN is finally warming up to the Clippers. http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/9560974/2013-summer-forecast-west-st andings

I say switch San Antonio with OKC, switch Memphis and Goldens State, move Portland to 8 and New Orleans to 9 and slide the others down, and move the Jazz down to the bottom. That is my opinion, but all irrelevant.

I think this just goes to show how close the West is. I believe teams 1-3 4-6 7-11 12-15 can go either way. I think there will be one surprise team likely Sac, Suns, or NO that hit higher than expected.

That still puts us at a 69.3% winning percentage. While I think being ranked 2nd is a bit high for us, I appreciate their vote of confidence.

I say we win more games... But ranked 2nd is fine.. 1st is better.. I'd be surprised if we didn't get home court advantage in the playoff's.. but... were gonna be in the playoffs...

I'm not picky as to how the regular season plays out, I just would really like it if our team got, at minimum the #3 seed in the West. The team really needs to shoot for a goal like that or better. Having a 4, 5 or 6 seed would put us up against teams we will probably struggle with like Memphis. I just don't want to play those guys again.

I want the Clippers to be 1st or 2nd Seed so we can play The Pelicans so Doc Rivers can beat his son 8 times in one season haha

West is tougher than last season, and last season included not losing in December. 57 games this season can mean a clearly better team than last season, despite only one more win.

Not sure why anyone could complain about 2nd, that's a reasonable ranking. If all goes well, first is possible, third is possible with some hiccups, and 4th is also possible because we can't exactly know how everything plays out with other teams performances, injuries, etc.

West is super close, it's a game of musical chairs between 1-3, and even 4-6, then there's a good amount of teams that could get those 7-8 spots.

I'm shocked that they ranked us at #2. Still, look over all the different sports network projections and I'm sure there is little consensus the west is really deep.

Think that is fair. Not convinced OKC can keep up the top seed unless Lamb gives them something.

None of that will happen and after reading the following I realized this must have been written by people, who do not follow NBA: "Clippers practically haven't change the roster. Only a few changes, then why would they be so high in the ESPNForecast?"

Spurs will be number 1. If Blake Griffin takes his game to the next level then we should find ourselves in the top 2. Otherwise, we'll most likely spend the first couple months of the season finding our "identity" then bringing everything together. I don't see how the Thunder could be number 1 with absolutely no Bench scoring.

my guess is that OKC will make Reggie Jackson their sixth man. He will be solid, but not on the same level Martin was. That being said I am also in disagreement with OKC being projected at #1

Every summer it is just painful to read some moronic previews that make no sense whatsoever! OKC lost their biggest bench spark and now they will miraculously keep the top seed with no bench whatsoever and only two real scoring threats on the entire team. That sounds as funny as the projections that Lakers will win 70 games last summer. Houston are 10 times more likely to finish as top seed than OKC and not because of Howard, but because of everybody else there - they are young, they are deep, they have one season of building chemistry behind them. How about that - I can name 6 Houston players right away, who are solid players and if you ask me I can hardly think of more than 3 such players on the Thunder. As for the Clips, you can't project us at 2 unless DJ is actually playing like a real center. If he does show up, we can easily push for top seed with that bench and those wings! Spurs will be there as usual, maybe a bit slower and not so dominant, but they look locked for home court. Denver will struggle a lot and you will see just how much Iggy meant for them...never mind the coach! The Wolves can't afford not to push for playoffs anymore and if they are healthy, they will be much higher than some expect!

Those are comments about the rankings, not who wrote the rankings

In terms of OKC, also remember that Reggie Jackson looked pretty good for them and he will be their new 6th man.

Regular season: 14/6/4/.531 TS% per 36 Playoffs: 15/5/4/.581 TS% per 36

Ibaka is not a scoring option, but he's a good and efficacy complimentary scorer if he has a shot creator to play off of. He gave them 15 pts/36 on .612 TS% in the regular season.

Will they be able to replace Martin's production (18.2 pts/36 on .608 TS%) though? We don't necessarily know for sure, but tis certainly not impossible. I think the Spurs will be #1 and OKC #3. Leonard is only getting better and I don't anticipate enough of a drop from Duncan to be significant.

Last season they only had: Parker - 66 games Leonard - 58 games Ginobili - 60 games

Duncan missed games but that was by design and will happen again, but they generally get more games out of Parker, and should from Leonard. Ginobili is injury prone, so I really shouldn't have listed him, but before the lockout season they did get 75 and 80 games out of him.

So by losing Kevin Martin and replacing him with somebody they already had who averaged 3ppg they only drop 2 wins? Not to mention they have to play the west elite teams 3-4 times a year like GSW, Clips, Houston, Grizz, and San Antonio.

82 more games of KD and Russ being the only scorers is not going to fly like past seasons. It will be so much easier to force the ball it of those 2 players hands. Jeremy Lamb could average at most 10ppg but he's not going to be even close to as efficient as K-Mart.

San Antonio lost 2 good assistant coaches, but their roster stayed the same for the most part. I think they will be a 1-2 again.

I'm not so sure the Kings will finish better than the Subs, er Suns. Sacramento is just good lord awful, and if DeMarcus Cousins does something stupid again, and he will he could face a large suspension from the league and/or his own team.

Oklahoma City has always done well finding replacements after they lose key free agents. still, at some point that's going to stop working I think this year will be that year. they will be a playoff team no doubt, but I can't see Jackson or Lamb being as good Martin

Well first,I mean really,we all know pre-season rankings are more for fun then gun because no one knows a thing, but my favorite part is every other day reading how Kobe is blowing a gasket every time he reads how bad his team is projected to do.

Suck it up, Mamba.

well, just keep in mind that the projected standings will ruffle feathers no matter where you rank the teams. some people think San Antonio will finish 1, some people think Clippers, some people get offended that the lakers are even projected to go to the playoffs...its a controversial issue
