Not a good look from our FO...

Caron Butler says nobody from Clippers called to tell him he was traded Kurt Helin Aug 22, 2013, 6:36 PM EDT Leave a comment

AP It's a common courtesy in the NBA - guys who are about to be traded hear about it from their agents and others around the league, but when the hammer drops the GM or coach or someone from the team calls with the formal notification. "Thank you for your service " and all that jazz anyone who has been fired knows too well. Caron Butler learned the Clippers traded him to Phoenix through the crawl on the bottom of the television. Butler and Eric Bledsoe went to Phoenix and Jared Dudley went west to Los Angeles. As you might imagine, for a veteran and professional like Butler perceived lack of respect didn't sit well. He said as much to Jeff Caplan of NBA.com. "I don't leave with bitterness or anything, but a phone call would have helped the situation," said Butler "But it's cool, it's no hard feelings because that's the nature of the business." There was a time not all that long ago where we just would have said "that's the Clippers for you." But the fact is their basketball operations have gotten a lot better in recent years - not just drafting Blake Griffin or trading for Chris Paul, but in terms of the professionalism with which the organization is run and perceived. This was a misstep that felt too much like the bad old days. Caron Butler is the highest paid Phoenix Sun player this season at $8 million, and he also has the veteran presence to be a leader. He can work with fellow former Clipper Eric Bledsoe and the Morris twins. He can guide some guys. Well, at least until the rebuilding Suns trade him. But I bet they at least call with the news themselves.

Yea that's pretty trashy. Kaman and Gordon claimed the same thing happened to them. They need to make this right and call him up.

I'm thinking maybe it went unnoticed because the FO was in transition, with Doc coming in... but there's no excuse, Gary or Andy have to make that call.

Come on, a courtesy call would have been nice. Caron was a good teammate and give it his best go as a Clipper, never complaining about his reduced minutes. I'm shocked that he didn't even get a phone call. One of the few things that the front office did wrong this offseason.

Can't say I'm not mad, cause I am. You don't do that to one of the biggest promoters of Clips Nation. The guy repped us every chance he got. Glad Tough Juice took the high road.

Dumbasses. A simple phone call and he would have been talking about how great the Clippers are in these interviews. You do everything right for a few years, you can't forget to do the little things.

It's so simple and easy. Dumb not to make that call.

He was at Barnes' wedding not too long ago. They have him and his wife with the players in a few pics so I'm sure there are no hard feelings.

Seems weird this happens yet again. I can understand a Gm or President letting guys know that they are in our future plans, we don't plan on trading you and making it public, like they did with Gordon. This was probably to move the trade along, and if it didn't happen, to instil confidence in our team members. However, Gordon and Kaman who aren't 5 minute a night players, and neither is Caron deserved to at least be given a heads up like, hey sorry to let you know but you've been traded. Thanks for your time here we look forward to working with you in the future again.

kaman and gordon found out they were being traded when blake griffin jumpped into deandre's arms and said the now ubiquitous phrase "Lob City".

This is false, Kaman and EJ were not at the same event as Blake and DJ, they were at a separate event. EJ found out via some social media.

Olshey said he and Del Negro were in the lobby of the Clippers' practice facility waiting for the players to return from the events to discuss the trade.

"Unfortunately in today's social media it didn't matter if they were home, on a bus, shootaround, out to dinner," Olshey said. "We would never get to them before other people got to them or it ended up on Twitter." http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=mc-spears_eric_gordon_chris_kama n_clippers_nba_010412

Do you actually think DJ and Blake would jump like that in front of the guys that just got traded?

Exactly. I am almost certain that at some point before the trade, they probably explained what their plans were and that he was a trade chip. I would bet the family farm that Caron knew he was going to be traded this summer.

Sucks nobody was straight up with him, I think that will change going forward with Doc in place. Doc might of felt like it was responsibility of those that were here with Caron. Anyways hope that is something of the past.

Congratulations to Caron on (if) going to his hometown team. If he can't win a title with us I am glad for him to go to his hometown.

I read that he has always wanted to go there since he is from there. This might be a good thing from his perspective, I would consider Milwaukee in a better place due to the young talent and Eastern Conference.

I think we should try to get involved with this trade. The Bucks have the cap space to take on Butlers contract without taking back a big contract. The Suns could use a good locker room vet if they move Butler. So a trade I think could happen is

Clippers give Willie Green and a 2nd round draft pick Clippers get Miles Plumlee

Suns give Caron Butler and Miles Plumlee Suns get Willie Green,Viacheslav Kravtsov, and 2nd round draft pick(LAC)

Bucks give Viacheslav Kravtsov Bucks get Caron Butler

I think each team would agree to this because it fills a need for each team.Clippers could use a young big like Plumlee,he is a energy player with a developing defensive game. Not a good scorer but is still young and could be our back up 4 or 5 of the future.Suns would be giving up a vet like Butler so would probably want one back for their young locker room.Willie is a good locker room guy and a great vet.Suns also have the Morris twins and Channing Frye at PF so they don't have a need for Plumlee really. And Bucks get the vet they want without giving up a big asset.

If our FO could do this I would feel a lot better about the Jamison signing because we would be getting a young player in Plumlee who's defense could really develop a lot under Doc's tutelage. So if Jamison gets injured we have a decent young big to take some of those minutes. If each team agree's to this trade our roster would look like this

PG: CP3,Collison SG: Redick,Crawford,Bullock SF: Dudley,Barnes PF: BG,Jamison,Plumlee C: DJ,Mullens,Hollins

That is a good mix of players. You got youth, vets, and overall a good locker room.None of these guys have attitudes or ego's.All I think we would need is another player who could play the 1 and 2.A vet most likely, maybe someone like Keyon Dooling or Royal Ivey who won't demand minutes but could play spot minutes in case of injury or foul trouble.

Caron Butler for Ish Smith and some unknown guy.

So we basically traded Bledsoe for Dudley. Not sure why we couldn't have just traded Caron for Redick S&T and we could have had better offers come our way for Bledsoe.

I like Dudley and he's not making too much money but we did re-sign Barnes and drafted Bullock so the SF position is loaded.

I was thinking the same, tense (although you probably will ignore this since you like to pretend I'm on your ignore list). I doubt the Celtics would want to hold on to him so he'll be passed around like Q Rich did.

@Grillnap It appears as if we got the last productive years of Caron Butler. I suspect that he will continue to be used as a trading piece since his basketball skills have declined.
