"The expectations are great. I don't want us to shrink from that at all. I don't want us to run from that," he said. "But what we've got to get our guys to understand is expectations are one thing. Realization is a whole different thing, and just because you're expected to do anything doesn't mean you've arrived.

"We have not arrived. We didn't win a playoff series last year. So we have a lot of work to do as a group. We should expect to do that work. We have to expect that it's going to be much harder and we have to embrace it and do it."

"As athletic as we are, we didn't run enough. We have to get up and down the floor more offensively. We have to do a better job of our spacing offensively."

I said this so much last year!

The perfect thing about the Doc Rivers acquisition is that it took place around the close of the NBA finals. Doc gets the entire summer to watch film. The last time I heard him mention it he had reviewed over 40 of our games. I'm sure by now he must have seen them all or most. This makes me feel real good because he will identify our faults and work on them. I do agree with him that closing out games was a problem also consistency I once referred to this team as Jekyl and Hyde, and they are. Hopefully he can make them more consistent

I love how he uses "we" so much, shows he's full on about this and wants ClipperNation to be unified!

In order for any season of ours with the current team we have to not be a waste, is minimum a second round playoff series. I think Spur fans, Thunder fans and Rocket fans feel the same way, as do Warrior fans. Thing is, that's 5 teams all expecting to make it to round 2, so someone will get disappointed.

It's time this team started using it's strengths to full capacity in the playoffs to hide our weaknesses. It's also time this team not show up after a 2 game lead in a series like they were mugged right before they step onto the court. This team should fear no one, do the Heat or Spurs ever look afraid at all? No and I think we can beat either of those teams in a 7 game series.

Doc is going to have to really lay into these chumps in the playoffs if things get tough, and I mean go Postal if necessary. There are a lot of young guys on this team, with minimal playoff experience. And I don't really see anyone being a "leader" out there outside of CP3 when he goes into the "I'm going to take over and win this game on my own" mode. Clippers need to stay on the attack at all times, there are zero teams out there with the big men to run around after our 2 big men that will make the playoffs next year.

That's all CP though, he doesn't like to run, so Doc will be the first coach to get him to push pace if it happens. The bench pushed the pace, the starters didn't.

@pageC4: Yup, really nice to see him analyzing all the games, taking all the good, seeing what can be better and going from there. It seems like common knowledge to do that, but you'll be very surprised that many coaches just come in and try to build everything from scratch with their own system.

This way allows for continuity of what was good and improvements on other areas.

Vinny didn't have good out of timeout / out of bounds plays, Doc can improve on that a lot.

Vinny wasn't able to get CP to run, Doc might be able to do that (and I think CP is working on his conditioning, I think that's what he was referring to when in an interview he said "I know what I'm working on" in regard tot he off-season but didn't want to reveal it).

Vinny wasn't able to get the team to defend down the stretch, Doc should be able to do that.

Vinny didn't use much mis-direction in the offense, it was very predictable, though of course it worked because Paul and Blake are that good. Doc should use more mis-direction, more of the "third side of the court" stuff and help open up the offense.

Vinny didn't specify where and how he wants Blake attacking, Doc is trying to get him in what he believes will be his most effective spots.

CP3 was making an extra effort to push the pace the first half of the season when we were the best team. Then he got burned out on that it seems.

He just went back to his comfort zone. Half court is his comfort zone, he controls what happens, he prevents mistakes, that's why he likes it. When you push the pace, a bit of that control can be lost when you have to push the ball up to someone else or things get a bit more scrambly.

It has to be emphasized and over emphasized in camp, they have to play with a shorter shot clock and there has to be repracautions for walking the ball up the court or going too slow. That's how you stretch players and get them out of their comfort zone.
