New article on Clippers.com on Byron Mullens: http://www.nba.com/clippers/news/mullens-looking-prove-people-wrong "There are still a lot of doubters and a lot of people kind of saying, 'Why did the Clippers do this?' but I hope to prove people wrong. I'm not going to let anybody down on the team," Mullens said. "I have a lot of stuff to do this year and I'm going to have a lot better shot selection this year, playing a better role on a better team." One of the primary things Mullens will be asked to do for the Clippers is space the floor from the center and power forward position.....

Surprised you didn't give it it's own thread David. Not calling you out but that was an awesome read! I'm so pumped for Mullens to prove people wrong. I got chills after reading all those great quotes. Sounds like a guy eager to shut people up and a very intelligent human being.

^^There we go- split it off. I certainly hope Byron will excel in this new environment. I must admit I have some doubt, but if he can shoot around 43% FG, maybe 36%+ on 3's, rebound a little better, & defend a little better than he did, it would be big boost for the team.

This is awesome, I really hope the guy is working super hard on all aspects of his game. If Mullens can position himself as the primary backup to Blake and DJ and be effective, it will be a great boost for the team.

I really do believe that Mullens is the wildcard on the bench. I know I am a skeptic and have my doubts about his defensive abilities, but am really hoping and looking forward to him proving me wrong. You would figure with me being such a DJ supporter that I would give this guy a chance, but to be honest I haven't seen to much of his game outside of a few games.

This article is really is encouraging, because I can totally relate to him with having a nine year old son. I was the guy getting in fights in the parking lot because you looked at my wife, getting threatened with brig time in the Marines due to fights, and all kind of other anger management issues. It all came into a different perspective for me when I had my son, and I can truly say I am a much better person because of him. If it has the same affect on him, I have no doubts that he will improve and it will benefit the team as well as himself and his family.

Good find David

I like Mullens and I am really glad that we took a chance on him... Over time, I think he's actually got an outside chance to beat out DJ as our starting center. He does a lot of things reasonably well...

Agreed. Those are great expectations and very possible IMO.

Mullens seems well aware of the doubters. I think it may even help to push him harder to contribute in ways people aren't expecting. I love this team, and the great attitude of Mullens, Redick, and Dudley make me excited for this upcoming season.

At first I was skeptical but when I thought about it. Mullens is a low risk, fairly high reward player. If Mullens is a bust it will hurt but its not a huge deal. If he pans out it will be great.

Anybody else notice the type of guys Doc brought in and the ones he replaced? All of these new guys have said they don't give a crap about minutes, shots. Imagine if Billups or Butler had gotten 0 minutes or 0 shots for games at a time? They would have seriously compromised chemistry. Doc knows what he's doing!

A good thing is that even he noticed he was chucking last year and is going to look at his shot selection.

Vinny was scared to bench Billups. Because of how strong his relationship with Chris Paul was Vinny was scared to do anything that would rub Paul the wrong way, and that included benching Billups and making him unhappy

That's because Vinny only had a cp3 on a rental, so of course he was scared to do anything to rub Paul the wrong way. Doc has more leverage, he has cp3 on a 5 year commitment.

Believe me if Doc was in the same position as Vinny, Billups wouldn't have gotten benched either.

I disagree. Doc was never scared to get into it with Rondo or anyone else. Contract year or not Doc and Vinny are polar opposites when it comes to managing players

I don't like Byron Mullens as he is now but I can see Doc Rivers developing him into a knock off of KG. He has everything KG has expect the physicality, he could very well prove me wrong because I have to admit I am one of the doubters but I do see the potential

KG? Not close, but I can see Doc trying to develop him into someone like Channing Frye.

I'm not sold on him yet just because there's always talk in the off-season, and it's natural to have greater optimism about your own players than probably the reality, but him doing well is good for the team, so of course I want it to happen.

Players respect Doc. Players do not respect VDN big difference imo.

You want to see how much players respected Vinny?

Look at how Blake Griffin ignores him and pushed him aside physically multiple times after this DJ dunk. I've seen Blake do this to Vinny too many times to count. Bottom line is as said above this is Doc's team, not CP3's anymore. VDN's playing favorites and fear to discipline vets created a lot of resentment from Bledsoe, DJ and Blake.

They call him Vinny! You wouldn't see any player call Doc by his first name, Glenn. Atleast Doc is a nickname

I can tell you from an employees perspective I hate it when bosses are afraid to discipline or those that have favorites. But you work for a boss that disciplines equally and treats everyone fairly and you have the upmost respect.

For some reason I feel like he might just have the ability to make that leap from raw talent, to actual usable talent.

"I think Byron Mullens is kind of a sleeper that nobody is talking about. I played with him on the Bobcats and he can stretch the floor. You're not going to see him really stand out, especially on a team like the Bobcats since they were losing, but [he could thrive] with someone like Chris Paul. He kind of reminds of me of Channing Frye. Channing wasn't playing in Portland, but then with Steve Nash, he was top five in threes made and three-point percentage. Byron Mullens can do that. I think that'll help our spacing when we play these bigs."-Jared Dudley

I can't wait to see Mullens play on a better team.. he knows he will need to step up his game to play with DJ and Blake.. and he is going to be a perfect backup for them... as no one will see him coming.. he is not afraid to take a 3.. and he is better than DJordan at the free throw line.... lets see the big man do his thing for his son!
