The Clippers this offseason brought in new faces as well as some known faces! JJ Reddick, Jared Dudley, Darren Collison, Byron Mullens and Antawn Jamison along with the returns of Chris Paul, Matt Barnes, and Ryan....

Collisson is the most underrated and brings the best value. Redick is overpaid and definitely not underrated. Overrated if you ask me. I'm looking forward to watch Mullen play since stat geek seems convince that he doesn't add positive output on the court

You might want to check out your links. The JJ one is good but the other 2 send you somewhere else.

Mullens adding no positive value on the court is irrespective of his statistics, and is actually evident from watching games.

The opposite actually seemed to be the reality that a surface look at his pts/rebs/3PM etc gave the impression that he was a much more impactful player than the reality. In addition, watching highlights as opposed to actual games also gave that impression.

The guy himself mentioned that he had bad shot selection last season lol

The fact is that so far in his career he has not been a good offensive or defensive player for any significant stretch of time. Of course players improve and if he works hard, focuses, plays with much better IQ than he's known for, he can be positive. If you have the same Mullens from Charlotte and just transplant him to LAC this coming season, that's not a very helpful player.

I agree that Collison is very good value, but his minute potential might make the acquisition hard to justify as the most underrated. I think of most underrated as the guy that will have more impact than anticipated, and I'm not sure Collison works.

Mullens could actually be the one if all the work he's putting in pans out and if he can play much smarter on both ends than his norm.

I would say Jared Dudley who wasn't mentioned. He brings great shooting, great efficiency, spaces the floor, but in addition, hustle and high IQ play on both ends. He's the kind of player you want on a championship team. He also only makes like $4M. I think Dudley + Barnes make less than Caron did last season.

Just make this a poll to simplify. I vote Collison.

I'm not saying it's you but stat geeks in general seems to think Mullen is a bad signing based on numbers. I just want to see the guy to be a serviceable big.

He was bad last season. Not really a stat geek thing he just was but that can change. He was on the Lolcats which definitely didn't help him improve much as a player. Under Rivers and in a winning environment he should improve. Hopefully improve a lot. Not to mention he is playing with better players that can make things easier for him.

I didn't think you were saying its me, just saying that one doesn't have to be a stat geek to notice that he's been a bad player so far in his career. You would just need a random sample of like 5 NBA games he played in last season

BUT, it doesn't mean he has to continue that way.

@agent0

wow, I only wish we could give stat guys like you a team so you could stick with it. too bad you don't like what the clippers have put together. maybe somewhere there is a guy with a computer willing to indulge the stat guys and base Everything on crunching numbers and put a team together...good luck. I hear memphis is close to that. please don a grizzlies hat and don't post here

Mullens by a mile. His impressive skillset compares favorably to a piss drunk Dirk Novitzky's.

Barnes- we take for granted what he brings since he was here, and he took less money. He's capable of playing the 4 in small lineups, he doesn't stop hustling. He brings the toughness to a team that is constantly accused for having a lack of. He made it trendy to take less money to come here which probably helped his fellow UCLA alumni Darren Collison to make a similar choice. He can shoot, and probably plays better off the ball then anyone else we have.

If we are talking strictly acquisition, then I have to go with Darren Collison. He gives us the ability to limit CP3's minutes to keep him healthy, and is a scoring threat. He can push the tempo if needed, and will be hard to kept under wraps with that second unit.

Dudley is a close second since he is a fluffy version of Barnes that shoots better.

I was watching Clips @ Suns game on my computer last night. It was the one where Clips blew them out for their 13th straight win last season.

What I noticed was Dudley's bball IQ is off the charts. He's always making the right passes, playing the passing lines, getting 50/50 balls, and taking high percentage shots. Basically the anti-Caron. Can't wait to see him in a Clipper uni.

I don't even know what this means or how this is related to my post, lol

1) Never said I didn't like what the Clippers put together, so that's a useless strawman argument

2) What numbers are crunched by watching 5 sample games and seeing a guy who so far in his career has played low IQ offense, low IQ defense and been a poor defender? Did I post any numbers or just observations, you tell me? But like I said, doesn't mean he has to continue that way, so again, irrelevant comment.

3) I don't even know what the Grizzlies have to do with anything

4) I'm a bit disappointed that based on the fact that we've interacted enough on the boards you would be respondig to me with strawmen that you know are false considering I love Redick, Dudley and Barnes. Thought the Jamison signing works for the purpose it is to accomplish, hope Mullens does well, and thought Collison was a very good backup PG signing.

All are good adquisitions: Collison, Dudley, Redick, Mully, etc. But the latter is the one who I hope proves his critics wrong this season. So Mullens for me. I know what to expect from all the other guys: solid play.

Jamison

You might be right about that. He's a guy nobody seemed to want, yet is a veteran PF off the bench who may still be able to contribute and is known as a high character individual.

The 5 man shooting threat of the possible bench line up is intriguing.

PG- Collison

SG- Crawford

SF- Barnes

PF- Jamison

C- Mullens

I go back to Barnes getting a lot of looks cutting to the basket, as well as Collison. I don't think you can pack the paint with that line up on the floor and Barnes was great at taking the back door for an easy score. This could work out to being the most difficult bench to cover, it would have been nice to have Bledsoe with this same line up.

I vote for Dudz. The ultimate glue 3 and D guy. San Diego native too.
