I'm really hoping its DJ, he has to step up this season, especially with Doc here.

If DJ fails, i have to go with JJ.

I think it will be DJ. He has to make a jump, but I think he has the tools to become a defensive and rebounding force with the right coaching and scheme.

I think either Redick or Crawford will be the 3rd leading scorer (whoever gets the most minutes) and one of them might even pass Paul if Paul stays around 15 or 16 ppg, but I think DJ will be the 3rd star because of his defensive and all-around game.

There are also a dearth of top flight big-men, so DJ has a better chance to separate himself from his peers than either Redick or Crawford.

I think we will be waiting on DJ to make a jump for another 7-8 years until the guy retires a Bobcat or something. There will be no 3rd ''star'', there will be a team! JJ and Dudley will certainly shock everybody and I mean it in a good way. I expect double figure scoring from 5 of our players this season!

JJ Redick due to fit. I can easily see him being a 16/4/3 type guy for us which is perfect 3rd option numbers. In terms of impact DJ CAN be that guy but I doubt it.

Probably Jamal. The team would benefit if it's JJ because that means THREES!!! I'd be happy with a combo JJ/Crawford as part of the Big 3...maybe call it Big 3 and a half.

I'm skeptical about DJ. I'd be satisfied if DJ can average 12/10/2....but that wouldn't necessarily make him our 3rd star.

Once again, people are putting unattainable goals on DJ. Every off-season, it's about who or what can "fix" him but it's never about when will DJ put in the work himself to improve. I hope this is the year everyone wakes up and realizes DJ has reached his ceiling.

As far as a third star, I hope there isn't one. I hope it's just a great supporting cast that compliments our two stars.

I feel you, Joe. You were sounding the alarm on DJ the minute we matched his contract... and you were absolutely right.

However, I'm going with tense on this one... Hope springs eternal.

I've even got a 'quote-parry' for you...

Seriously though, I have hope that Doc hides DJ well in both offense, and defense. My hope lies in Mullens now.

If DJ never gets better than a 10/10/3 PER 36 player he's still easily surpassed expectations as a 35th pick. The issue though is he's getting paid borderline all star money. If he took the 7 mill a year we first offered I wouldn't be griping.

^ agreed. I Still think DJ has the ability to become a star defensively, which we REALLY need him to do if we're going to see any real success this year. We still need Blake and Chris to exude their dominance.

I don't know if start would be the word, but I sure do hope that DJ becomes the defensive anchor. A better version of Celtics Perkins, or Dallas Chandler would be great. I think that is realistic with Doc's help. He has shown glimpses, and is missing some maturity, I matured quite a bit at his age overall.

I know there are few of us here, that unless DJ blows up in every category they will be picking at whatever he does wrong. If he becomes a more consistent version of the DJ we saw play the Spurs the first time last year that will be perfect in my opinion.

I have my doubts in his free throw percentage increasing to what some of us are hoping, but low 50's with improvements on defense are acceptable to me. Doc's focus on rotations and defensive rebounding will force DJ to do it correctly which I believe he is more than capable of doing it.

I feel like Doc is the parent of the children that he explains everything he does whether it's punishing or rewarding and in return get's better results, where Vinny was the parent who just complained that younger kids didn't do what he wanted them to.

if dj hasn't made the jump with 2 seasons of chris paul, then i doubt its gonna happen. i also have a strong suspicion that chris paul's gonna be the star and EVERYONE else is gonna be a role player. as long as it works, who cares about labels like that.

This. And I generally agree on DJ. I think he can still improve somewhat in a few areas (FT shooting, on-ball and help defense, etc.), but for the most part he is what he's going to be. And, along those lines, he shouldn't try to be a "star." He just needs to concentrate on playing to the best of his abilities. If we get 10, 8 and about 2 blocks from him in roughly 25-30 minutes a night, that's plenty. Would those numbers make him a star? No. Would they make him the center we need him to be? I think so.

The improvement that would make DJ a star is irrespective of Paul though, it's more about becoming a high level defensive anchor and being consistent in the playoffs. His production is already "star" enough for a C if you can get consistency and great defense.

Now, do I think he will be a star, no.

Is the question who will be the third best player or who will be a star because DJ is probably the only one that has any chance of being a "star". Redick can produce as a borderline All-Star based on his Orlando production of 17/3/5.

I hope it's DJ because that means he's improved to be the rebounding shot blocking defensive force that we've been all waiting for. But realistically I think it's JJ Redick. I think he's going to fit in great and make huge shots, as well as create plays by running off curls. He's a very underrated passer. Dudley and Crawford could also challenge for it.

I think German philosophers' problems stem from living if a sh*tty climate and eating German food. That would make me give up hope or maybe their briefs were too tight and they were out of Prozac

Freddy stated the first of the Buddha's Four Noble Truths quite well but forgot the other three. Far from abstract, Buddhist monks sat in meditation and set themselves on fire and they didn't move. They weren't in torment

I was into French existentialism when I was a kid. Then I discovered girls beer and weed. Since it was all meaningless I decided "screw it, have a ball" My worst torment was a hangover and the "present" a girl left me (OUCH)

I hope there's another beer in the fridge

Our DJ posts reminds me of Magettee. As far as stars I would wish it's like the Billups era Pistons

Leary was a lot more fun. Hope is fun. Next you're gonna tell me there's no Santa Claus

DJ added to his game each season and found ways to impact the game in and outside of box scores saying he capped out is non sense. The biggest improvement he needs to get his free throws back up and step up in the post season. It also helps to have a head coach backing you and believes I'm what you bring to the table. Vinny had no choice but to trust Jordan while Odom was out of shape and the team made a great run through a strong schedule and finished games.

Marion had delusions of grandeur though. He never really accepted that while he was a high impact player, and was overall an All-Star caliber player, he was still basically the ultimate role player and not a true lead player.

Of course in comparison to Dudley, Marion had elite level athletic ability, so Dudley won't be impacting that much, and Marion was still putting up about 19-20 PPG, though of course less in the playoffs when some easy baskets went away.

That's a good comparison, though maybe a guy like Battier is closer, a guy who is all IQ and not really elite in any physical attribute. Marion was quick, fast and had like the best/quickest second jump in the league. Barnes is more like the middle class man's Marion on the team as his style is more similar (running out on the break, good rebounding, moving without the ball to finish at the basket, athletic ability), and Dudley is like the middle class man's Battier.

Apparently Doc's got his "Big Three":

Doc Rivers: Clips have own Big Three Updated: October 2, 2013, 7:13 PM ET By Arash Markazi | ESPNLosAngeles.com

SAN DIEGO -- Doc Rivers won an NBA title with the Boston Celtics in large part because of the Celtics' "Big Three" of Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen. Rivers believes he now has "Big Three" with the Los Angeles Clippers.

"I'm always focused on our big three guys, Blake [Griffin], D.J. [DeAndre Jordan] and Chris [Paul]," Rivers said. "Their leadership is important to our team. I'm always watching them. I think those are the guys that I have more focus on than anybody else."

Adande: It Depends on DeAndre

If Doc Rivers and the Clippers are truly going to have their own big three, the key is the progress of DeAndre Jordan, J.A. Adande writes. Story

Paul and Griffin have combined to play in nine NBA All-Star Games, including the last three together, but Jordan has never been named an All-Star before. Rivers, however, feels comfortable putting the 25-year old center in the same conversation as Paul and Griffin heading into this season.

"That's our 'Big Three,' I like our 'Big Three,' " Rivers said. "I like what DeAndre gives us. He gives us something a lot of the guys in the league can't do. He can block shots, he can run the floor, he can defend, he's talking and he's in the best shape of his career. He's doing a lot of great things for us."

Rivers said he expects Jordan to be in the running for defensive player of the year this season and has spent the first two days of the Clippers' training camp in San Diego focusing on defense. Rivers expects the Clippers to be one of the best defensive teams in the league this season.

"They should be better than any team I've ever coached, I really believe that," Rivers said. "They're more athletic. They don't have the veteran IQ but they should be in that area. We have a couple of individual defenders that can be dominating on defense. We have great speed but we don't have the size in some ways as some of the teams I've coached."

Paul believes Rivers' high praise of the Clippers on defense is largely based on how their two big men will play.

"I think the reason he says that is solely because of D.J. and Blake," Paul said. "Their ability to protect the rim and their speed and athleticism is something that you rarely see in anybody let alone being on the same team. Those two are the cornerstones of our defense."

Rivers held two full-court scrimmages between the first and second teams at the end of practice on Wednesday. After the first team lost the first scrimmage, Paul demanded a rematch, which the first team won. Paul said the team has already noticed the difference in having Rivers as their coach just two days into training camp.

"One of the best things about Doc being here along with the rest of the coaching staff is the attention to detail," Paul said. "Everything has a purpose. He expects a lot of us. He allows us to be pros and men and he knows we all want to win and we got to show it."

By the way. Doc equating Griffin, CP3, and Jordan to a big three is a huge factor. Doc doesn't seem like one to just sweet talk either, so he must see big things there with DJ. Kind of makes you feel good about our chances with this team

lol, that is funny, but there is some great comparisons here. We have sufficient offense from the new acquisitions, and it will allow DJ to just be like Perkins...a defensive anchor. I'm ok with that as long as his defense is exemplary, none of his "let me pass up the fundamental play for a highlight block." Just clog the paint, make it uncomfortable for anyone to come into the paint and score on you

Hey, his best season with Boston, Perkins averaged 13.2 pts/36 and they gave him post-isolations every now and then, so I don't think DJ would be too worried about that.

He could also be used to run into the knee of the opposing teams best player. We already know he's very good at that.

I've recently been watching a lot of Orlando games from earlier last season. Redick is a much better player than I thought. Watching him next to Arron Afflalo, I'd pick JJ hands down, and I didn't expect that at all. He is constantly running his man into a screen at FULL SPEED. I laughed out loud watching Shannon Brown trying to keep up before hitting the brick wall that is Vucevic and falling down right before JJ hit the three...priceless. I don't think I've ever seen a player who runs harder while trying to lose his man- he stands out for how much quicker he's always moving then everybody else on the offensive end of the floor. He is a great passer, and a much better defender than I expected. He just is always in the right place and he doesn't seem to make mistakes. He is very likely the third member of our big three, and I think others will agree once the season starts. This is not to say DJ can't become a serious defensive force, but right now JJ is a more valuable player Imho.

I like the sound of all that. Can't wait to see him in action. DJ and Blake need to set him some good screens.

I am going to go DJ. I think has has potential that was never brought out and I think Doc will get him rolling. Perhaps Redick also.

Hopefully DJ because that would mean he has improved greatly.
