Okay I'm just speculating, but with what EB said about building a Boston-type team here, it seems like he's giving the blessing for the Clippers to go after a superstar. Could it be Baron Davis? Incredibly as it seems but he just opted out of his contract (which would've guaranteed him like $17+ million next season). It would make sense to move to LA too for his movie producing interests:

    http://myespn.go.com/blogs/truehoop/0-3 ... ducer.html

    Hmmmmm.....

If that's the case we most likely won't be able to retain Maggette, however.

Would he take the money though? 10 million doesn't seem like enough. Otherwise, it's a GREAT Opportunity.

I would love to have Baron Davis on our team. If we got him, we would contend for a championship this year, no doubt as long as we stayed healthy. My only question mark would be is how healthy Davis can be. He has been injury prone all his career. He is probably about 29 by now. Hell, they should pull the trigger on this. I was mad when the Hornets took him and we ended up with Odom.
He is one of my favorite players. I am sure that Memphis will not sign him nor, Philadelphia. I bet he is friends with Brand. Lets do this deal. Give him 60 million for 5 years. It's a gamble, but if it gets brand to stay, its worth it.

i just read up on that dodgermaniac....it makes the most sense....i think a deal could be in the works(brand saying take care of other issues first* meaning sign someone big and use their bird rights to give EB a lucrative contract afterwards!....not to mention davis has been saying all along he wasnt going to opt out....now he does?!! whats going on?!!

Here's an AP article on Le Baron's opt out:

    ---

Golden State point guard Baron Davis elected to become a free agent Monday night, opting out of the final year of his contract with the Warriors in a surprise move.

Davis had until Monday night to decide whether to turn down his $17.8 million contract for next season, the final year of a six-year deal. The Warriors didn't expect him to opt out of the deal despite little progress in the parties' long-term contract negotiation, but club spokesman Raymond Ridder said they received a letter from Davis' agent, Todd Ramasar, late Monday indicating his intentions.

Davis still could return to Golden State as a free agent, but his opt-out clause was his only bit of leverage in forcing contract talks with the Warriors before next summer. The former All-Star also is now free to negotiate with other clubs, possibly facilitating a sign-and-trade deal with Golden State.

Davis, a 29-year-old veteran, repeatedly has said he intended to return to Golden State, but he might be displeased by Warriors coach Don Nelson's recent declarations about giving more playing time to Golden State's young players, even at the expense of a few victories next season. Nelson reiterated his plan Monday at a news conference to introduce draft picks Anthony Randolph and Richard Hendrix.

Golden State also failed to improve its roster by using its $10 million trade exception this summer. The exception, which was acquired when the Warriors traded Jason Richardson to Charlotte last June, was due to expire on Monday night.

Davis averaged 21.8 points, 7.6 assists and 4.7 rebounds while playing in all 82 games last season for the Warriors, who finished with the best record in recent NBA history for a non-playoff team.

Davis led Golden State to the second round of the playoffs in 2007, breaking a 12-year postseason drought for the franchise. He added to that achievement by leading the Warriors' first-round upset of top-seeded Dallas.

How does this sound for a potential lineup?
    Davis/Knight
    Cat/Gordon
    Thornton/ Thomas
    Brand/ P.Davis
    Kaman/ Powell

Just wondering, even though I am not a fan of signing Beno but....Would we still be able to get him while resigning Brand and getting Davis with the mid-level, Just in case Davis gets hurt?

Rumor has it Baron is very intersted in LA. I live in the bay area and spoke with some friends who have connects to the warriors, and he wants to go to LA and apparently has already spoke to management. I just hope if this is true he can stay healthy and not wear down at the end of the season again...

^^I find that hard to believe because the Knicks are waaaaaaaay over the cap- I just don't know how they can afford Baron.

the knicks can barely afford their draft pick.....

on the other hand i think the clips have a shot here....LA has the perfect market for him and BD knows this....i'm hoping we dont have to make too much a stretch to sign both of them though(baron's been injury riddled and EB has been a horse for us, but if he cant stay healthy in the future that'd be a WAY to much money sitting on the bench and i'm sure this possibility is running through sterlings head)....but at this point EB is healthy, baron is healthy and i say we go full throttle to get these guys!.

All the news ppl are pointing to this! If Brand would take a paycut to 12 or 13 to better his team, Davis could be signed for the same and we are contenders! This is changing! He opted for a REASON he had to have had a tentative agreement with another team, and it only makes sense to be L.A.

Yeah exactly guys- if both Brand and Le Baron can agree to something like $13-14 mil/year that should work. Baron actually played all 82 games last season, and lets hope that he will stay healthy indeed!

Can you guys imagine if we could somehow get Maggette signed also? It's a long shot if we get Baron but man if we do, this would be a championship caliber team for sure:

    Baron Davis > Rajon Rondo
    Elton Brand ~ Kevin Garnett
    Corey Maggette ~ Paul Pierce
    Chris Kaman > Kendrick Perkins
    Mobley/Gordon < Ray Allen
    Al Thornton/Livingston/Tim Thomas/Quinton Ross/Brevin Knight/Paul Davis/Josh Powell/Mike Taylor > James Posey/Leon Powe/Eddie House/Sam Cassell/Glen Davis

Also can you guys imagine Baron Davis and Eric Gordon in the backcourt? That would be one of the most athletic and powerful guard combo in the league! This is getting VERY EXCITING!

I think it is very true about the idea that since Baron opted out he must have made a deal.

This does leave us with a hole at SF, im not sure Thornton is ready to play big minutes, and Thomas is borderline worthless...
