As we all know Chris Paul is always in the Most Valuable Player conversation, but is the year that he can finally win? I think so. Chris Paul this year can do something special. Even though Chris says this team goes as Blake [Griffin] goes, I disagree. I believe the Clippers will go as far as Chris takes them! There is no excuse this year. He has a great coach in Doc Rivers, Great Shooters around him in JJ and Jared, and a great partner in crime in Blake Griffin. In My Opinion, there is no reason that Chris shouldn't average 20 & 12! Chris has something this year he has never had. KNOCK DOWN SHOOTERS FROM THE 2 ALL THE WAY TO THE 5 (If you count Byron as a Center). He has the Coach and has the teammates and now I believe this is the year for Chris Paul to capitalize on all of that and emerge as a legitimate Contender for MVP!

If we get the first seed out west, he'll have a great chance.

They probably will be looking to give it to someone other than LeBron so CP3 or KD will be in the frame.

No, because it's Blake's year.

Prediction for Blake: 25ppg, 13rpg, 4apg, 1.5spg, 1bpg, 50%FG, 78%FT.

But Chris still wins Finals MVP because of his clutch play throughout the playoffs.

It's Lebron's to lose, so I say Chris has less then a 25% chance to capture that award.

Think him and his teammates have a slightly better chance at bringing home the more important trophy though. wink

Meh, Chris may end up deserving it, but it'll probably go to Lebron, Rose or finally Durant.

I would LOVE to see Blake get those kind of numbers but I still think he's a couple of years away. I fear that changing his offensive style and adjusting to a new system this year could possibly take his numbers down. I hope not.

LAC's CP3 for MVP, it only sounds right Very Happy. I believe he'll win MVP this year and our Clippers win it all as well, 2014 NBA Champs. This is our year. CLIPPERNATION RISE!

Should have happened in 08. He has a good chance but its Lebron's to lose. If the Clippers are 1st/2nd seed in the West his chances are great.

I think your expectations for Blake are ridiculous. O.o Those are Lebron esque numbers. More rpg, less apg. Unless Blake plays 40+ mpg no way.

I would love it if he did, but I think they'll probably give it to Lebron for the umpteenth time.

Only Durant or maybe Rose have a chance again.

Paul probably has a better chance than Rose but the MVP is largely influenced by the media and story-lines so who knows.

Story lines, team wins, etc. Rose didn't play at any level above the other league's stars when he won MVP. Paul has had about 2-3 seasons better than that, but he wasn't on a #1 ranked Bulls team.

So really it depends on how much your team wins and how it is interpreted and portrayed.

In the plus column for CP3, this is probably the best team he's played with so we should get a very high seed. On the minus side, I think most of the credit for any improvement will go to the coaching staff.

I don't think there's any way in hell Durant gets it if we finish with the better record... that would just illustrate Westbrook's value to OKC. Durant is still very young and will have plenty more opportunities. But LeBron is definitely favorite... again.

If anyone deserves it Chris should get it. He's lifted this team from consistent lottery team to a legit title contender.

It'll be a travesty if LBJ ends up with more career MVP's then Jordan.

They both deserve to win the MVP every year when they were the best player.

A big part of this depends on how far our team makes it. MVP voting seldom is determined by individual play alone, which sucks for great players on bad teams. For many years I remember Kobe losing the MVP to Nash, Nowitzki, and other players not as good as him only because those other players were on teams that did better. The MVP criteria needs to be changed.

My vote was no. My personal belief is he deserved it last year and probably will deserve it this year. But the media is so fascinated by LeBron that even if Miami lost every game,he would win. IMHO an MVP is one that lifts he team to heights never attained. That is CP3.

Take away Lebron from Miami they don't even make to the ECF the last 3 years. He deserved those MVP awards. Hopefully this year it's Paul's turn.

That Is true but your examples aren't great and in 08 CP3 deserved the MVP over Kobe. He put up better stats than Kobe and his team only had one fewer win than the Lakers that had more talent and had a much better coach. Lets not act like Nash and Dirk robbed Kobe. They put up fantastic stats while having helping their teams win a lot of games. In 05 Nash won MVP since he made the Suns win A LOT more games than they did last season. In 06 Dirk probably deserved it over Nash but they were both worthy candidates.

In 05 Kobe wasn't anywhere in the MVP convo and he didn't deserve to be in it. You can argue Shaq deserved the MVP over Nash that year it was close. In 06 it was between Nash, Lebron and Dirk with Kobe a distant 4th. Lebron and Dirk arguably put up just as good/better stats as Kobe with a lot more team success. In 07 Dirk clearly deserved it.

People are way too fascinated by ppg. I keep hearing this nonsense about Kobe deserving more MVPs. He was a top 2 MVP candidate in 08 and thats it.

Why should someone be a top 3 MVP candidate with nice numbers alone when their peers had similar numbers and much greater team success?

If that were the case 09 CP3, 09 Wade, 03 T-Mac should have been in the MVP convo.

There's no criteria though, it is up to the interpretation of those who are voting. Generally being a really good player on a really good team (one of the best) has been the way.

Some say it isn't fair to players who are dealt poor teams, and they can vote accordingly. In addition, "story lines" come into play. "He carried the team", "improved from ___ wins to ___ wins". So the criteria is really all over the place and is up to the interpretation of voters.

There's a chance if there is voter fatigue regarding LeBron and the Clippers finish first in the West. I'd like to see Paul win it simply for the fact that he was robbed of in '08 as a lifetime achievement award to Kobe.

I wouldn't bet on Paul winning it, but he should be in the conversation. He's been top-4 in voting the last 2 seasons. Durant's chances may be hurt (due to a lesser record) with the absence of Westbrook to start the season or he could put up monster numbers and manage to keep them at the top of the standings. I could also see Rose/Kobe getting sympathy votes if they return to the level of play prior to their injuries.
