Great article about Blake Griffin! Thank you! What's refreshing to know is that Blake just works hard at his craft and doesn't let detractors spoil his focus of the game.

Some good points were raised by the writer. Above all I love the way that he accounts for Blakes drop in overall stats. He quickly points out that his minutes have gone way down and that he's less of a focal point since CP3 has come aboard.

I think a lot of opinions about players come from people who really just haven't seen that many games of that player. How many opinions that you hear on the TV or read are from people who have seen every one of Blakes games in a season? As Clips fans we have seen all those games and we know what is going on with his game and his development.

The writer above is very perceptive about how expectations can warp perception. I remember seeing the film ET after everybody else had and hearing about how amazing it was. Because my expectations were so high I thought "yeah it was ok but not all that". In retrospect , Yes it was all that but my sky high expectations skewed my perception of it. Rookie of the year syndrome is no doubt similar.

...and even their statistical analysis is off because they base it off of simple counting stats, ignoring minutes, efficiency, etc. (TS% gone up every season, career high AST% last season, at least 20 pts/36 every year, higher PER in his second and third years than his first)

It's what the average simple NBA fan doesn't get and seems to think a Clippers fan is making it up when they tell them that Griffin is actually better despite lower counting stats.

Maybe someone else saying it will convince people, but even if not, hopefully Griffin's game and the Clippers success does.

Blake could average 40/20 and still some would say, "but he doesn't have a ring!".

EDIT: Just saw he's #14 in espn's rankings for the coming season... above Duncan, Aldridge, Bosh and Dirk.

http://espn.go.com/los-angeles/story/_/ ... ings-11-15

Seems like the only PF left to be ranked is Kevin Love.

he's #14 on the ranks, he's not even considered a star in NBA2k14, people are hating on his numbers... only success and a ring will help validate him and even then there will be some people saying he needed CP to get it done. well, kobe needed Shaq and Pau right?

what is this spell check thing btw? that was weird

Blake was ranked very fairly. Honestly I wouldn't rank him over Duncan but this ranking is based on what they think will happen in the upcoming season not what happened last season. In my opinion Duncan was the best PF last season though its debatable if you can call him a PF.

IMO you can call him a PF or a center as he excels at both positions.

14th is actually a great rank, might be a bit high to put him over Duncan. Duncan's defensive impact is far superior, I mean it hasn't been close, Duncan plays defensive player of the year level defense. He's averaged 18/10/2/1.8blks/.529 TS%/107 ORtg in the playoffs the past two seasons.

During the season, per 36: 20.6/11.7/3.1/2.6blks/.544 TS%/107 Ortg

I love Blake, but Blake hasn't been that good overall, they have to be factoring in a decent decline. Blake has done well, and is a better offensive player in the season production wise, but Duncan is just way too far ahead on defense and Duncan's offense is consistent in the post-season.

I'm betting CP will be somewhere in the top 4.

I approve of Blake's selection. Yet I don't approve of Love being over him. I guess I want too much. lol

I think Blake deserves to be that high because of his numbers, because of his Box Office, but also because of the things you don't see in the box score. His hustle, his ability to draw double teams, etc.

Yeah, there's some crazy Kevin-love over there at espn. Fragile as f*ck and never played a playoff game... maybe EJ should be above Blake, too!

I mean, rebounds are one thing, but 35% FG's last year? ...for a power-forward? That's a joke.

Much as I hate him, kobe got screwed too. Even with one leg, he's still a top-20 guy.

Agreed. Yeah when I finally got a chance to watch Love play on national television, frankly I was shocked at his terrible man to man defense. He also pretty much shot them out of the game in the first half. Started hitting a bunch of shots in the 2nd but it was too late by then as they were blown out by Portland. He ended up with his average in points and rebounds however.

Whatever.

This is an example of the Press' peck*r pounding pontification passing on perfidious poppycock to promote a prodigious paycheck.

First there wasn't a system last year and Blake was winging it. He has to be the Go To Guy this year and Doc will see that he has the opportunity.. Barkley said that and it's actually is true. He has to like Kobe or MALONE be able to score at will.

( For those new to this post I named my dear departed dog Barkley because he made a lot of noise, wouldn't shut up and made no sense. His saving value was that if he didn't like you he's hump your leg. Imagine Sir Charles doing that.)

Part of what will happen involves the system. With our shooters the floor will be spread especially when DJ develops his jumper. (am I kidding? Twisted Evil ). If BG has a credible Elton Brand shot he can beat and big off the dribble which means LETHAL. Even Chukie said he would be unguardable.

To use last season as an example of the best he could have done is like comparing prunes to plums - one gives you constipation

All teams that have won a championship the past 30+ years have had HOF and All-Stars on them
