Great for the Lakers for all their terrific players they've had, and the decades upon decades of success. Thing is, we play there too. Our team has had to look up at those every single game seeing another teams accomplishments.

No disrespect to the Lakers, but what if the tables were turned? What if the Clippers were the Lakers and the Lakers were the Clippers? Would you want to see all those banners up there all the time? Probably not.

We both share the same stadium and I see no problem with this. If we ever win a championship they can cover our banner too, I am sure they will and I am sure it'll be something over the top and really childish as well. Til then, if it's a Clipper home game then make it more Clipper feeling in the stadium.

The Lakers and their fans are so used to being the only "real" BBall team in LA that they probably feel that feel like the Staples Centre is theirs and now we are messing with their yard. Which is actually quite natural. But the fact is that the reality is somewhat different and probably getting harder and harder to swallow, which is really quite funny.

There's an article about it on the NBA website.

Its nice to make an article out of nothing. I highly doubt this was a calculated move in order to challenge the (irrelevant) Lakers.

Maybe just maybe we are just deciding to use the rights given to us? You know the right to use the Stadium as we please? The right not to have purple and piss all over the walls during our home games.

I went to the Lakers forum as I was at the game Friday and I knew it would cause some controversy.

As is the case for everything related to "Laker fans" this topic was no different. An overwhelming majority call it pathetic & immature. About 5% of the posts are from actual level headed fans that understand that since its a Clipper home game Doc is just setting the home atmosphere.

Personally I think its a smart move by Doc. Its not meant to disrespect the Lakers but merely to remind our guys this is our HOME court absent the hanging Laker banners.

Lastly, Nick Young needs to shut his pie hole. What a turd he is saying "that just ain't right man & I'm gonna have to talk to Doc. Shut up Nick, you haven't even played one regular season game for the team and suddenly you are the voice of dissent for the organization.

At the end though, we must win a chip if we are ever to be considered a legitimate team/franchise. Go Clippers!!!!!

i really hope BG or DJ puts Young on a poster with nuts on his face. He's saying DOC needs to earn his keep but Young has never won anything significant in his life. These idiots always rep Lakers history when they know they're a rental and they haven't even played a single regular season game for the Lakers yet. Next thing you know, Kaman will use the 16 championships argument.

QUICK... tear it all down... NICK YOUNG doesn't like it!!!

Sorry, Mr. Young... didn't realize you were a laker legend, and that they're YOUR championships and retired jersey being covered up.

Taking his role as kobe's stand-in a little seriously, isn't he?

Doc should bitchslap him with his ring hand.

Nick Young "earning his keep" as the perfect metaphor for the lakers franchise: Speeding uncontrollably down a steep decline... then crashing.

It's funny. I'm tired of seeing all these comments from Flaker fans saying that the Clippers should move out of Staples and blah blah blah. If Flaker fans have an issue over something that is completely harmless, they should go find another arena or go back to the Forum if they don't like it. Seems like they can't handle what it takes to be in a shared arena.

Kaman is an interesting fellow. Anytime the subject of the Clippers comes up he always laments about not being informed about the time he was traded to New Orleans. He swears the Clippers treated him so horribly and were so unprofessional. I find Kaman comical because to my recollection the Clippers are the only team that resigned him. The Hornets quickly let him walk, and so did the Mavericks. And now his current team, the Lakers, have him on a one year contract, but somehow the Clippers above all were the team to earn his scorn.

If anything Kaman was a clumsy bafoon that could never get his act together. The NBA is a business, and if he thinks the new club he's on will have much more dignity and treat him better he needs to just ask Lamar how they do things across the hall.

Guys like him, Eric Gordon, Lamar Odom, and others need to realize the NBA is a business. People get traded on a yearly basis, and while informing the player that a trade is imminent is the ethical thing to do it is not the wise thing to do. The minute you tell a guy he's being traded he may do everything in his power to screw it up or leak the specifics of the trade to the media. There's a reason you don't tell the players otherwise other teams (your competition) may catch wind of it and meddle

Exactly. The fact that nobody but Lakers fans (and players, apparently) speaks volumes as to what a non-issue it really is.

Mason or Ireland.. not sure which guy brought up a very interesting point on podcast today regarding the banner drama. Why not put up one of Ralph Lawler too? I mean he's earned it more than any guys like Dudley and Redick.

It's hilarious, when reading the comments, how so many Laker fans still believe that they own Staples center and that the Clippers pay rent to them. Delusional Laker fans being delusional Laker fans.

Since the Clippers and Lakers are separate entities, standard business rules apply. Lakers' products have no place being viewed in another franchises products. If they want to advertise their past success during our games, then they could pay DTS for the rights to do so. Nothing is free in the business world and this should have been done a long time ago.

Yeah, but it's about the players. It's rare for teams to advertise their broadcasters like that, I think.

However, I do think Ralph should get a retired mic jersey like Chick Hearn got.

Doc Rivers: Our arena when we play

Updated: October 22, 2013, 2:08 AM ET

By Arash Markazi

LOS ANGELES -- Despite outrage from Los Angeles Lakers fans and at least one player, Los Angeles Clippers coach Doc Rivers said the team meant no disrespect to its in-arena rivals by deciding to cover up the Lakers' championship banners and retired jerseys with seven giant banners of Clippers players during Clippers games.

"The culture is changing, and we want to be a winner," Rivers said Monday. "To do that, we have to make changes, and the one at Staples Center is one that I thought we needed to make. We don't leave the Lakers floor down, do we? And they don't play on the Clippers floor; they take it up. That's all.

"It's no disrespect. I have an amazing amount of respect for the Lakers. Having said that, I work for the Clippers, and when we play, it should be the Clippers' arena. I would say they probably feel the same way when they play. That's all it is."

First-year Lakers guard Nick Young, who played with the Clippers two years ago, took exception to the move when asked about it Sunday.

"He can do that?" Young said. "For real? That's disrespectful. We got to talk to Doc. He can't have that. We got to do something about that."

Rivers, who made the decision, is the Clippers' head coach and the team's senior vice president of basketball operations. Instead of looking up at the Lakers' championship banners and retired jerseys during Clippers home games, players and fans now will look up at oversized banners of Jamal Crawford, Blake Griffin, J.J. Redick, DeAndre Jordan, Jared Dudley, Chris Paul and Matt Barnes.

Those banners made their debut during the team's preseason game against the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday and will be up for every Clippers home game moving forward.

"It's nothing against the Lakers," Griffin said Monday. "It's nothing to disrespect what they've done because those banners can never be removed or anything like that. It's just that it's our home arena when we're there. That's what that's about. I thought it was a cool thing that [Doc] did."

Nick Young should just stay away from this issue since he doesn't have any contribution of the lakers banner, in fact he did not even play yet a real game this season, yet he used the word "disrespect" without understanding the issue, Doc is talking about home games only not the whole season.

I agree with Stephen A. But what the hell does DJ making his FT's have to do with winning the DPoY award?

Also, what's this BS that Laker fans are bringing up that we might as well cover up the Laker statues with Clipper jerseys? That will never happen. We love trolling you Flaker fans but we will never go below the belt.

Damnit, why did Stephen A. have to pick us to come out of the west? He's always wrong about his picks. Oh well, I shouldn't be complaining, we used to be the favorite to get the #1 draft pick every year. Talk about a complete 180 turn around in a matter of 4 seasons

I think he believes if DJ is just as terrible at the FT line this season, it will keep him out of critical moments of the game, like the 4th quarter. And if DJ isn't able to show his D in the 4th, he won't be seriously considered for DPoY.

We are actually helping the LAL. We're covering up their jerseys and banners to keep them from getting stained. They ought to thank us.

Utah is playing the Lakers at Staples right now and even the Utah announcers were enthusiastically supporting the Clippers' decision to cover the banners.

I am sorry, but "waking up a sleeping (insert dog name here)" not the best line they could have used. (do not know their name, guy on right)

"THEY pay rent.." Don't the Lakers also pay rent??

You know what I love the most.

Remember all these years that whenever Clippers game came up, there seems to be talk about Lakers.

Now the role is reverses, its seems that whenever Lakers played, people can't stop talking about the Clippers.

I love it.

I still don't get why free throws are always brought up. Yes, it would be nice if he hit more. But how often does he even shoot them? It's not like he's the focus of our offense and shoots 15 free throws a game like Dwight or Shaq. Doc even made a point of saying there won't be plays run for him. So if he plays great defense, rebounds well, dunks, etc, and costs us a point or 2 at the free throw line every game, that should still be a net positive for us on the floor. Shaq could miss 10 free throws a game and still be a net positive because he did everything else well. If DeAndre goes 1/3(he took 3 FT per game last season) from the line in a game but does everything else well, it could still be a net positive.

Now, of course everyone will bring up the Hack-a-Shaq stuff. First of all, not many coaches even use it. Second of all, part of why they use it in order to get the coach to pull that player out of the game. If you hack DJ and then Vinny immediately pulls him for Ryan Hollins, then it's worked. Third, I don't know the exact math, but you only need to shoot around 50% to make hacking a bad strategy. Teams average around 1 point per possession, so if every possession you get hacked you go down and make 1/2 free throws, you're doing alright. DJ shot around 40% last year, but like I said, if he's playing well enough on the defensive end of the floor, then he might still be netting a positive value even if he gets hacked 4 times and makes 3/8 free throws. Lastly, NBA rules prevent hacking in the last 2 minutes of a game anyway. If you foul DJ away from the ball in the last 2 minutes, he gets 2 free throws and the ball out of bounds. So there's basically no hacking going on in the last 2 minutes, and considering the last 2 minutes are CP time, DJ won't be getting any plays run for him anyway.

So yeah, his free throws could definitely use some improving. But I think the negative effect of his free throw shooting is way overblown.

^That is another thing(among many other things) that pissed me off when it came to VDN. He often benched DJ in the 4th quarter even if he was playing well and sometimes for seemingly no reason.

I hate that channel. I hate the fact that the Dodgers are moving there. Horribly biased towards the Lakers. When I see the Time Warner cable logo, I can only think of the purple and piss.

Laker fans' number 1 sign of insecurity:

When they say they want the Clippers to leave LA.

Lakers fans have attended our games a lot the last 3 years. Making stupid jokes about how the highlight is looking up at banners etc. Yet if you look at their angry posts now on the forums.. it's "I'm never going to a Clippers game again since they did that". My response? Fu**ing awesome. Less lame non Clippers fans we have who just want affordable tickets and to admire Lakers banners, the better.
