Los Angeles Clippers 7-footer Byron Mullens is entering his fifth NBA season after spending his first two in Oklahoma City and the last two in Charlotte, and the 3-pointer looks like it will be an even bigger part of his game. Mullens didn't attempt a single 3-point shot while with the Thunder, but in 2011-12 he went 12-51 (23.5 percent) from long range and last year he took it a step further, going 66-208 (31.7 percent). It remains to be seen....

Still not getting why he is not told to be used as a roller going to the basket more often. Mullens has has strong athletic skills he should be looking for lobs and putbacks like Hollins. I understand the original need was floor spacing but if his shot is not falling from deep let him try to operate in the post and from mid range. He has a player needs to find whatever way he can to help the team. His....

Let him have the green light... on one condition: Unless his boxscore shows at least as many rebounds as 3pt attempts, he gets a DNP-CD next game. Fixed Yellow_Flash_Colorz_PDT_19 ....

He needs to be better with his shot selection for sure, but he just needs to make more shots, there's really nothing else about it He also needs to roll to the basket more, but before that, he certainly needs to be making more shots from outside. ....

Blake could be a 21% 3pt shooter, yet nobody wants him taking those shot. Maybe Mullens should move in a tad ....

Blake last season shot better than Mullens from 16-23 and 10-15, Mullens needs to step in all the way to the rim, lol ....

^^ More than a tad... his FG% outside the paint was exactly the same as his 3pt% last year. He needs to be in the paint or outside the arc. Anywhere in between and he's even less efficient. ....

No I rather have him chucking 3s than shooting midrange jumpers. His midrange jumper sucks and he can't finish for crap. At least 3 point shots are worth more points. ....

I rather have Mullins focus on his midrange, rebounding, and defense. This is where we need him the most. ....

I'm worried about his lack of even trying on defense!

the guy has already admitted he sucks on defense and struggles to rebound - 2 things that are pretty much NECESSARY if you want to last in this league as a fringe big. so what's he do? he jacks up an incredible amount of 3s leading to an insane amount of opposing fast breaks. someone's trying to go after austin rivers PER numbers this season. ....

Mullens just needs to get DNP-CD's. There's no reason to play him over Jamison/Lou/Hollins.

So far it's just practice. I'm still high on him. Lots of guys look like $hit in preseason and turn it on for the first real game. Agree with Ice that they should be rolling him to the rim a lot more. But I don't like the idea of working him from midrange. He's going to be a hot-cold guy all year, let's make sure the hot times are from deep. ....

It's only preseason.I highly doubt that Doc would give him the green light to fire up so many 3's in the regular season.Doc probably just wants Mullens to build confidence in his shot so when we need him to shoot from 3,he isn't hesitant to do it.Doc won't let players stay on the court if they have poor shot selection. ....

Isn't Mullins around a 0.3 three point shooter? Around 0.4 two point? Why does everybody want him to shoot threes? Even though you hay be bad on defense alone you can always help team defense with effort. Why can't he rebound? He's seven feet tall? Does this mean "man up"? ....

You would think he shoots better inside the three point line, but.... Byron Mullens last season: 10-15: 35.4% / 72.4% assisted 16-23: 31.5% / 82.9% assisted 3PT: 31.7% / 95.5% assisted The eFG% for 2 pointers is the same as their FG. The eFG% for 31.7% 3PT is 47.6% which is still bad, but 10% higher effectiveness than his best mid-range area, and spotting up from 10-15 isn't really spreading the floor the way we'd like. When he's shooting from long mid-range, he's worse....

What's funny to me about Charles Barkley is he says Doc is coming into a headache with the Clips because of our frontcourt players... but then he said he LOVES the Mullens acquisition. Really? So he hates BG & DJ but loves Mullens? ....

Yep you aren't much of a floor spacer if your mid range game is inferior to BG's. Mullens is open and assisted a lot more too. ....
