Amid all the speculation that the Clippers are suppose to be interested in Baron Davis that could be talk and rumors, the Clippers took direct action. The Clippers took the direct action of having Dunleavy stay in NY so he could meet with Udrih personally the very second that free agency started at midnight. They weren't there to talk about the weather. This tells me that Baron Davis is probably just a rumor, and Beno Udrih is probably the fact. The Clippers are reportedly offering Udrih a 5 year deal with the MLE for 30 Mil or so. The Clippers thinking here is that Udrih is still a young guy heading into his prime and still has upside. He also will cost 1/2 to 1/3 what Davis would cost and his contract is exempted from the cap. This gives the Clips the option to sign Maggette and Brand. Or sign and trade Maggette for the player of their dreams. Or just let Maggette walk and pick up another player through free agency with the 10 Mil in cap space that Maggette frees up. But I would bet this weeks paycheck, that if Udrih is willing, the Clippers made him an offer.

    Great observation JF!

This is all I hoped for: that LAC would act quickly and decisively. Not probe and diddle around while other teams sign the good FAs and LAC is left to pick among the scraps like last year (apologies to Brevin). Why can't LAC be the team to strike first?

I don't care who they get (Baron, Beno, Hinrich, etc.), just as long as they move quickly to get one of them. If they try to court all of these deals at the same time, they'll probably lose all of them. So make a decision quickly! Looks like they may be doing just that.

Ether, you hit the nail on the head. Last year they didled around as PG after PG was signed by other teams, and we ended up with the leftovers that no other team wanted. And we are still stuck with Knight's contract for one more year. We now need a PG who can carry us to the playoffs and beyond. Is Udrih that guy? Was last years improvement only a pretext to the player he will become over the next couple of years as he heads into his prime? He certainly shot well last year for a young PG. 46% from the field, 39% from the 3. A PG who can also score. Bingoooooooo

This is interesting but I think it would be a mistake to not go after Baron Davis if we have a good chance of landing him. Beno Udrih is a good player but I hope that with Baron Davis available, Beno is our backup plan instead if we can't get Davis.

Maybe Dunleavy just wanted to have a late night dinner with Udrih? It's pretty romantic in the big apple at night. Wink

we actually might be able to sign both udrih and davis as long as we wait to sign udrih after we sign davis, because with the mid-level contract cap space doesnt matter

What do the Clip have to do? We've done everything. Lets hope and pray Elgin, Mike and Sterling can pull off this Baron Davis deal or its bye-bye Elton. The way I see it, we get two All-Stars or we get ZERO (and I ain't talking about agent zero). Come on Clippers, pull off some magic! If we could get EB and BD- WOW! Instant respectibility and certain championship capability.

Or we can stick to the plan of just resigning Maggette and Brand and trading for a PG from the pool of:
    Billups, Hinrich, Felton, Ridnour, etc.

Sounds like typical stupid Clipper management making blunders again. Meet with Beno and a couple hours later he decides to stay with Sac. Dunleavy should have been out with Bdiddy.
