Is Woj credible remember last time on the event of hiring of Rivers, looks like he is pro Boston on the series of article he is writing.

Not surprised at all but I will give Sterling the benefit of the doubt even though I am not sure he deserves it after all he is done.

Btw WOJ is quite credible and I find this quite plausible given Sterling's history and the fact that he also turned down the Butler for Ariza trade recently since he didn't want to ruin chemistry.

Woj is legit to me. But i dont see why this came up now and not before. Unless Woj knew it all the way and needed to wait until the season opener to get some extra buzz with the article.

We should of got more from the Suns.Getting Bledsoe and then taking Butler and eventually flipping him to Mil anyway seems they didn't pay up enough.

Woj loves drama but he's not going to flat out lie about details, revolving around agents etc, aka his "sources. He wouldn't risk burning all those bridges IMO. Besides this sounds like the Donald we know, so not surprising or hard to believe.

No kidding. He needs to just let go.. let his great front office do the work and collect the profits. Stop trying to interfere with basketball decisions you don't understand and letting emotions get in the way of basketball decisions (players he does or doesn't like).

WOJ was completely wrong every step of the way during the Doc situation. He was just the celtics' mouth piece throughout the whole fiasco. I said then, and I'll say it now...WOJ lost all cred with me because of that. Now he's a Clippers insider? Hmmm...

Anyway, WOJ's title says it all. By the way 86, your title is worse. Just saying.

The story isn't a big deal if it's true. It's not like Sterling didn't want to pay anyone. It's not like what he did isn't done by owners. It's not like Sterling was being cheap. Bledsoe was a coveted player that DTS liked a lot. And how many here thought we could have received more than we got for Bledsoe? Don't lie, there were many here plenty mad at the time. This isn't a big story, this is just sensationalism at it's best. I'd bet there is a juicy story in just about any trade if you look hard enough. So just because it's DTS, this is that much worse? The deal got done and everyone is happy so who gives a flying frack what happened during this fiasco...I don't.

Many within the organization are stating that this article is completely fabricated using no real sources. He Is does this before with his articles on LBJ. The only thing Woj can be trusted with is trade news, not his writing.

Sure, the deal got done. But in the grand scheme of things it reveals a troubling aspect of Donald T. There is an alarming similarity between Sterling and Dallas Cowboy owner Jerry Jones. Both appear to be guys that think they are smarter than general managers, coaches, and scouts who have greater experience than them. In Sterlings case, fortune has smiled on his team in that he backed down of thwarting the Redick trade, but our Clippers were not always so lucky. Last year we had an opportunity to trade a declining Butler and Sterling got in the way. Will we always be lucky enough that Sterling will swallow his pride and let the experts do their work? That Is why this article is so relevant it lets us know we aren't out of the woods with Sterling.

my source on twitter who's actually connected to the clippers told me this is FALSE, yes he was against the trade at first, but never to the point to call it off, deal was always going to come through, just more ways to poke at the clippers, eh, will show them wassup this year

It reveals nothing only if you believe the story. All I know is DTS is dishing out the most money, more than any other owner for a coach. He gave Doc the power and judging the RESULTS, Doc has gotten everything he wanted. That's all the proof I need. Now, if you want to believe the article as the gospel truth, go ahead, it's fits your narrative perfectly.

even if this is true so what? every team in the NBA would love to have bledsoe and from sterlings point of view he either really liked him, or probably thought we could've done way better which i'd have to agree on. not saying that bledsoe deal was bad but if we waited a little longer we might of done better.

Can anybody say Korlov?

I still wish we got one borderline all star caliber player (probably from a team looking to tank) for Bledsoe rather than two role players - Dudley is slow and unathletic. Redick is good but more of a supporting player.

Can't blame him, really. We basically gave Reddick the same deal we gave Caron when we signed him 2 summers ago, and Reddick has been nowhere near as productive as Caron Butler had been, up to that point, on either side of the floor. Even worse, we were giving up one of the most explosive young talents in the league, for a pair of guys who had already reached their ceiling, and are decent role players in the very best of scenarios. He probably thought that there was a better deal available somewhere, or that a better deal would come up at some point.

Yeah me too. He is happy to be that role player and has good IQ and his career 3pt % is good but he just hasn't shown much at all in the pre season.

Is that Butler to Ariza straight up? If it is and even if it's not, I can't see why anyone would turn it down and if it's about chemistry problems he's worried about it still doesn't outweigh the positives that trade would do for the team, plus Ariza did play with cp3 in NO.

The organization HAS to discredit the report because it could have implications down the road. Even if not true, if agents and/or other GMs think it is true, it could make them hesitant to deal with the Clippers. If players and GMs don't think they can take the Clippers at their word because DTS may come in an mess things up, it can be a problem to deal with them.

That is the concern with this story. Not that a deal that happened almost didn't, but that it could plant a seed of doubt around the league around who really has the decision making power, Doc or DTS.

I keep reading stuff like "could have gotten more for Bledsoe", "traded him too soon," etc. Not sure what other brilliant moves people think they could have made.

Sorry to burst the bubble, but Bledsoe, while a nice player, was a backup and, more importantly, is a point guard who has shown little propensity for running an offense. He is fast/quick, plays good D, and makes flashy plays, but he is far from a complete point guard and is not suitable as a 2 guard. He very likely will develop into a very good point guard, but he is a ways away from being an all-star himself so you can't trade him for an all-star. He had limited viability for the Clippers being behind Paul and other teams know that. Thus, the team would always be trading from a position of weakness. Given that, I think the trade far exceeded anything that could be reasonably expected. Turning a bench player and a rapidly declining aging player into 2 starters is pretty freaking impressive.

Moreover, the Clippers had a big need at SG. What better SG trade do you guys think was out there? (Remember, the Clippers were against the cap so it had to be a sign and trade deal, not a free agent).

Let's look at other SGs:

  • Bradley Beal - Even if you think he is better (debatable) he plays for the Wizard who have Wall and no need for Bledsoe

  • Kevin Martin - wasn't going to happen

  • Monta Ellis, Gerald Henderson, J.R. Smith, Joe Johnson - all awful fits and high volume, low efficiency chuckers who would do nothing for floor spacing

  • Harden, Kobe, Wade, Mano - ha

I mean, seriously, the Clippers needed an efficient 3pt shooter who also provided a more well rounded game and who'd fit in well beside Paul and Blake. There aren't a lot of those players around and few, if any, who fit better with the Clippers than Redick. There are some who shoot a little better than him but are defensive liabilities or can't handle the ball, there are those who are better at defense but can't shoot from 3, and there are those who can light it up more, but do most of that on drives, not what the Clippers needed.

Fans always overvalue there own assets but the idea that the Clippers were going to turn Bledsoe into a proven all-start SG is unrealistic. The Clippers took a position of strength, turned it into a solution at the biggest weakness, and maintained the old position of strength by keeping the key player (Paul) and adding a great compliment in Collison.

agreed. I honestly hope its just a case of him not taking the preseason seriously. Prior to the start of preseason Dudley's numbers looked solid. Just by glancing at his numbers you would think he was an upgrade over Butler, but as you said after preseason I'm wondering if we made the right decision with him. At least we have Barnes to step in if need be.

Nobody else caught this post lol? In just 2 or 3 games Redick has looked like a SIGNIFICANTLY better player than Butler ever was for us. Nevermind that he makes 6.5 mill compared to Butler's 8. Redick this preseason scored like 15 ppg on outstanding efficiency and was our best wing defender. That's without being gelled with the team and being out of shape.

I defended us getting Redick hard day one and I'll continue to do so until I have a reason not to. He's a perfect fit, has been OUTSTANDING so far for us during training camp and the couple preseason games. Based on Redick's skillset I see him being about this good till 34-35 like Ray Allen, so we are in great shape with his contract.

I think Redick alone due to fit will have a bigger impact this year for us than Bledsoe would have, so Dudley is just a cherry on top.

Middle of a trade moratorium. Coach/GM makes an "in principle" agreement which can't be consummated for another week. Owner shows some seller's remorse during the wait time. Coach/GM persuades him it's in the best interests of the team. Deal gets done.

Happens all the time and if it were any other owner, nobody would even bother to write about it. But the sports media will never miss a chance to take a shot at Sterling.

Complete non-story.

I do agree with Joe/Cleepers that it's sensationalized for sure. I mean what owner WOULDN'T have a bit of buyers remorse trading a young star like Bledsoe? The issue for me isn't what Donald's motive was or anything but rather that he was about to veto a deal already agreed upon by him and the teams. You just can't jerk other teams/players involved around like that. It will destroy league wide relationships.

This is what makes the story (or at least Woj's version of it) all the less credible to me.

If we are supposed to believe that Sterling had second thoughts about giving up a human highlight reel and fan favorite for a guy who will likely cost about the same and generate far less in jersey sales, and that Roeser asked Doc to speak to the man upstairs and ask him to change his mind - all of which sounds quite plausible - then why in hell would Roeser go blabbing about it to JJ's agent and other teams' executives before Doc had even talked to Sterling?

Roeser had a week's wiggle room for Doc to work his magic with Donald. The deal could not have been finalized until July 11th. You don't advertise every little squabble within the family to outsiders. They only needed to know if and when the deal was absolutely, positively dead.

That's why I'm calling bullshit on this whole thing.

^ I considered that too, but maybe they told Redick's people incase he had time to find another backup team to sign him if the deal fell through because they felt bad about the bad business.

Sounds pretty flimsy to me.

If the FO didn't feel the need to inform EJ, Kaman and Aminu (3 actual Clippers) that they were returning to the negotiating table on the CP3 deal, then I don't see why Roeser would feel such a duty to keep (free agent) Redick's people appraised of a situation that would only make the Clips look dysfunctional.

He also ran the risk of JJ saying "f*ck this" and signing elsewhere anyway.

Just doesn't add up to me. Probably a grain of truth in there somewhere if you look hard enough, but nothing like the drama this article portrayed.

Sterling questioned a deal that many here questioned. No biggie.

We don't know the the real thing happen to the negotiations,we did not hear the side of our Clippers team, just the side of the story written by Woj.Just the timing of release before the opening of NBA it will bring a bad publicity to our team, you cannot blame Sterling if the story is true, the owner has a high regards to Bledsoe and he is the one paying for it.

Woj is by far the most credible reporter around the league, but being the most credible reporter is like being the least sleaziest politician. Woj has made up stories to make himself seem like he has the inside scoop even though sometimes he doesn't, he was constantly dishing out reports about how Deron Williams was going to leave Brooklyn and Deron even called him out on it, and obviously he was wrong because Deron isn't in Dallas last time I checked.

And like Joe said, Woj was completely out of the loop when it came to the Clippers side of the story on the Doc trade. He was being fed by his east coast sources.

I'm sure this incident happened, but I guarantee you it wasn't as dramatic as Woj is making out to be.

Looking how well Bledsoe is playing and his potential while being traded we should of got more. Suns should of given up a first rounder even if heavily protected Bledsoe looks like such a damn steal. I would say a top ten protected pick this year would of been more than fair game.

If trading Bledsoe for something "better" means not getting Redick, then I'm not on board with that. Sounds like Doc really wanted Redick for a reason. And people are talking about JJ being a "role player" as if that's a bad thing. The Clippers have come to the realization that it's not always a good to fill positions with older guys that used to be stars. Chauncey and Caron kinda proved that. We were terrible defending the perimeter and (at best) mediocre at shooting from 3. Redick fulfills a pretty important role as an offensive threat in a half court situation. Sure, guys like OJ Mayo put up gaudier numbers than JJ but their style of scoring was not properly suited for our needs.

I get it. Bledsoe is a powerful young player with incredible upside and box office potential. You don't want to give him up even though he's backing up a truly great point guard. So if we're going to give him up we want to get the absolute best player out there. But what's more important? Getting a player because he's "great"...whatever that means. Or getting a player who fills a need...who strengthens a weakness?

As far as Dudley. I haven't seen enough of him to know if he's a good acquisition for us. He is finally starting to hit shots, which helps. But frankly I'm not going to miss Butler that much. We got some nice moments from him, but whatever defense he used to play (to hear Chris Webber, you'd think Caron was some lockdown player) has long since gone. And I'm still kinda peeved that he didn't step up in those games where Paul sat out to injury. As a veteran, he should have picked up his play. I don't mean that to sound harsh. I wish him good luck but I was ready to move on. At first glance, Dudley seems like a lateral move, yet Dudley is younger and seems like a slightly better defender and less likely to turn the ball over than Caron. We shall see if Dudley can be more useful as the season goes on.
