Last night I was focusing a lot of my attention on Doc and I noticed a lot of things that he did that make him such a great coach and he deserves props. I felt like I was watching a chessmaster out there because for everything Jackson did, he had an answer. This is the first time I've seen him really get so involved in the coaching, in a way he didn't in the opener or preseason. I'm going to list a few things, see if anybody else noticed.

1. He had BRILLIANT substitutions. He was making frequent subs and unlike past coaches we have had... he didn't baby our stars. He would bench them 2 minutes then send them back in instead of the usual 8 minute rest or whatever. This allowed us to keep the pressure on GS's throats. When hack a DJ started seeing him sub in and out 1-2 guys constantly was so damn smart. Basically he had DJ out for offense but right back in for D... but on offense he was smart enough to give Jamal a chance who had like 11 in the 4th as a result.

There was one time where he put Jamal in instead of Redick and I questioned it.... until Jamal hit a couple 3's, got a stop and made a few free throws.

2. On the second lob in that triple lob exchange... CP3 wasn't going to throw the lob at first he was going to walk it up (he doesn't throw halfcourt lobs normally) and Doc screamed at him to throw the lob to Blake which obviously worked.

3. All game Doc was getting on CP3 and Blake about attacking and you saw a difference when there was a stretch early where Blake wasn't shooting really and Doc got on him.. then he started attacking like crazy.

4. Doc brings a toughness to the team that we lacked before. Not only are the players getting feistier but before when teams tried to rough us up we folded.. and last night it made us STRONGER and more aggressive. Even Blake who got hacked a few times just got better as the game progressed before fouling out.

5. Doc is constantly standing up for his players going after refs and even saying things to opposing players.

Maybe you guys have things to add to this but these are just some things I noticed. This is the first time in my 15 years as a fan that we've had a coach that doesn't make me want to pull my hair out every game with idiotic error after idiotic error. Doc really puts you at ease and makes such good decisions that you just know if the team loses, it had to do with the players, not him.

Haven't seen the game so I have nothing to add. But I am really glad to hear that Doc is working his magic. The difference from Vinny is just so evident. It will be really interesting to see how the season progresses.

I think we are getting a lot more respect from the refs now too with Doc as our coach.

Yea I noticed that. We get a lot more calls, Blake and DJ getting way more free throws on hacks.

I saw Doc yell at Paul a couple of times to get the ball down the court quickly.

I was talking about how Mark Jackson isn't out coaching us as usual at the game with my buddy.

Also loved that Jordan was substituted out for offense but was Putin immediately for defense. That shows faith

Yeah, he yelled at Collison too for that. I was applauding the TV when I heard that. I also liked his game management even earlier in the game, not just the 4th. I liked the quick timeout to draw up a play at the half, which resulted in a made bucket. Unfortunately GS rocketed the ball back upcourt and got an easy layup just before the clock ran out on the half, but that wasn't Doc's fault, it was guys not getting back.

CP3 highlights. Look at the difference in ball movement, spacing and communication on our team compared to years passed. Want to know the scariest part? This is two games into the season! Imagine when everybody gets familiar with teammates/coaches and gels fully? Doc probably salvaged DJ's career. If he keeps playing like this for the next two seasons... he needs to be resigned.

I really like how CP isn't the boss anymore. When the floor general knows more or has more influence than the head coach it just isn't right.

I bet chris likes it too.

Yup! I love that aspect. Doc is the undisputed kingpin of this team. CP3 does a lot less coaching and gets to focus more on just playing the game, which is great for everybody as you implied.

Repped High Quality Post

I'm not going to over analyze his coaching right now. Nor should we. Vinny did a fine job here, our team played really well. The real coaching difference comes in the playoffs where I think Doc has a serious edge. However, if he blows it like Vinny did last year in the playoffs it's all for not.

Team won a record amount of games in a row last year, had a perfect December etc etc. Doc can only do so much as can any coach, it's up to the players to show up.

Has nothing to do with record or anything subjective like how well somebody did with the team. These are all tangible things and the differences are night and day, win or lose. Ball movement is off the charts compared to before.

ur right that it's due to doc as our coach but also he told the guys to tone down the complaining. i'm sure he told them to worry about focusing on the game and he'll have their backs on the calls. now that's a coach.

Does golden state have a lost up player? Lee is soft and bogut is nothing special. Why are we scrutinize and they aren't? Yes they have curry and Thompson, but we have cp3.

Doc prob has a bit more respect from the Refs than Vinny, this is do also to his constant yelling. I'm not so sure I've ever heard Doc after a game when he didn't lose his voice even slightly haha. Reminds me of a coach we had in my league when I was a kid. My buddies dad used to go nuts coaching and he was constantly yelling it was awesome.

Doc has a hoarse voice too because he has vocal cord issues, he has had them for a while. It is a medical thing.

Some and only some coaches/teachers can do more and I think we have one of them. One simple but important change has been the rotations, which will only get better come PO time.

Being at the game and watching you don't get some of the insight you get form TV, until you get home. At the game my wife and I noticed that the refs seemed to be the most fair then we have seen in decades. Never thought about it relating to Doc,but that sure makes sense.

It's clear that Doc have ability to outcoach opposing team's coach. I could only remember 2 or 3 game Vinny was able to outcoach the other team's coach. But that's doesn't mean anything if we don't get far in the playoff. Let's see how he did in his first year.

Docs coaching is solid, I just wish he would run ICE on the sideline pick & roll. I hate when our bigs hedge up high to the middle rather than having the guard force his man baseline.

I thought Doc would use Blake more in the post and isos. I was wrong. Blake looks like he did during the vdn yrs.

It was a point where they settled for Mullens shots instead of calling plays for BG. Maybe he just realized all of the shots Blake passed up and got disgusted with him

There were a few times where Blake was open and didn't shoot. Not a big deal. Frankly much rather have BG shooting the mid ranged J than Mullens who is horrible. Blake isn't great either but his %s from mid ranged are actually better. So much for Mullens the floor spacer. Sad

Blake won't even take baby jumpers in the paint. He's like 8ft from the rim and is passing to someone to take a tougher shot. I don't know how you win playoff gms like that. With your 2nd best player playing scared

I think BG's problem is he has too many weapons and struggles to commit to one or two patented moves. I like his little dream shake turnaround banker a lot. I like his driving hook shot in the lane. Of course he has a nice spinning drive to the basket, and up and under, and his right and left hooks. He needs to find a couple of those to rely on and not worry about if he misses them or not. Just commit.

I think you're right, he has so much potential that he gets confused with his options. A couple of money moves with the appropriate counters that he can rely on would do his game the world of good. He can get creative if things are flowing but to know he has those moves when things get tight would be good.

Did anyone notice against Sac that Doc chose not to have the team close out quarters going for the 2-for-1 possession? We tried that ALL THE TIME last season and I must admit I didn't love it. When it works, it's great. But too often we attempted a bad shot just so we could get that extra possession. When your first shot is terrible, what good is it, especially when the other team scores?

Doc didn't even bother with that Friday night.

Well the playoffs will ultimately determine if Doc is better than Vinny. What we know now is that Doc had a better resume coming here than Vinny did. Despite everything though I'm certain that the worst we may do is western conference finals

lol, yeah. I was hoping for much more from Mullens. When we acquired him I felt though he could have been a decent shooting big to stretch the floor. Instead, he proves to be every bit the chucker many criticized him for Sad I am very disapointed to say the least

I didn't watch that game, but for some reason this team doesn't play too well against Sacramento. I can't explain if its that we play down to the competition or if their players or system are just generally tough for us. Last year they did pull some upsets against us.

They've been somewhat tough thanks to Cousins but we still won 3 out of 4 last year against them.

We sat out DJ in the preseason game against them didn't we? I wonder how DJ will fare against him. On a side note my wife and I are going to the game on Monday. I will be very interested to see how we do against Houston. The media seems very high on them. If we win it would perhaps get us back in the good graces of the media, and then hopefully we can be taken seriously again

I'm going to go on record with a fairly bold prediction........(I recorded the GSW game and watched many parts over and over) I truly believe Doc has given the blueprint to the rest of the league on how to beat GSW.

*Make Curry put it on the floor (yes 38pts but 11 TO)

*Make Klay play Defense

*Make Bogut face up to the rim

*Force AI to become a creator

Those are the ones that stood out besides what some other people mentioned. Headed to the game shortly (even though I'm under the weather ;(

If DJ can force D12 off his spot, box out & Doc switches BG over on him off & on, I think we can keep him from going off. I think Harden will have a tough time tonight with JJ chasing him. Parsons is the one I actually worry about, need to keep that guy in check as he is one of the most underrated players in the league IMHO.

Go Clippers!!!!!!!!

...Or JJ's gonna have a REALLY tough time guarding Harden! No shame as Harden's a tough guy for anyone to guard.
