MartyKahn, we get it. You don't like Blake. Even when he gives basically the best performance of the night for our team. Sing another tune!

Matt Winer, Kenny Smith, and Shaq on their NBA show tonight were calling Doc Rivers "Oc Rivers" because his team has no D so far. Ouch. The truth hurts, doesn't it? I hope the Clippers prove these guys wrong. I sure would like to have these 3 commentators eat their words.

For a shot blocker DJ really has to keep his hands up instead of bringing them downward. Sorry, still watching some of the game.

Sure Blake had a couple of miscues but who didn't late in the game? DJ missed a close up basket. JJ and CP3 missed some baskets they would normally make. Still, Blake seemed to be grabbing every defensive rebound and setting excellent screens for Paul. He even hit a couple of jumpers in the 4th. Including one to take the lead in the last couple of minutes. Which is something we don't see often.

Let's not forget Blake (along with JJ) is the reason we even came back. One of BG's knocks is that he can't take over games, but he and JJ did just that in the 3rd quarter. Not just by the points Blake put up but by his rebounding and 2 steals. The guy was flat out dominant during that sequence. It's the reason why he and JJ were the only guys on the plus side of the +/- stat for the team.

So get out of here with your Blake hate! It's not justified in this game. Not when there were so many other problems.

Just wasn't our night. You want to look at blame look at the first half. We cannot let teams get that far ahead of us. And we probably shouldn't let Vucevic have 31 points! And our bench? Went 5-23 from the field (all 5 were Crawford). NOT GOOD!

On the plus side, we only had 13 turnovers, which is decent (although we only forced 15). As good as Afflalo was, he still shot 5-16, 0-3 from three, we normally will take that. We also broke even on rebounds. And obviously our second half defense was much better than the first half. Hopefully we can build on that.

Also I don't expect Paul to have too many of these games. Didn't really shoot well, and had 6 fouls and 4 turnovers a few of those pretty bad. Like I said, that won't happen often, but it does seem to happen against Orlando.

They stole Oc Rivers from me, haha. I made that joke several days ago in a post on this board.

I expect us to lose when we shoot 3/19 from 3. That's 15%!!! If we had even made 6/19 for 30% we'd have won. We shot ourselves out of this game, and that won't normally be the case.

Another positive note. Redick's off to a really nice start. Unlike the other games, he wasn't really hot in the first half, this time he turned it on in the 3rd. I would like to see him hit shots in clutch situations. He missed some tonight. We know he can do it because he's done it before when he played for Orlando.

Looking at his numbers, his overall shooting is better than his 3 point shooting right now. It's usually the other way around. I think he's still playing on adrenaline and hasn't quite settled in. That's why I think we STILL haven't seen him at his best. Once he gets more comfortable with the team and accustomed to the rhythm of the offense, I expect his 3 point shooting to hit around 40%.

I expect him to be just about automatic on those open looks!

But the fact he's averaging 17 points on 50% shooting is a surprise even for me.

We lost. SO WHAT? We got surprised by a guy who will be one of the top centers in the league. Sometimes a loss like this is a learning experience. I wish we won but this before all star break. Time to develop some heart. A champ has it.

Mullens shoots threes because Doc wants him to. If not he'd be on the bench and Hollins would be in. Blake's jumper is starting to look fluid. When he hits it he's unguardable. Did you see the behind the back dribble. It's practice. Not to worry.

DJ got schooled by a simple post move. It's not brain surgery. If he's motivated he should learn it. He has the length and agility. I have no criticism of him. He's 100% better than last yr.

Maybe he left the bench in to give them experience who knows but I trust the guy. This ain't VDN

Does Doc play rookies? Don Nelson had a saying "No rookies on the wood"

Happy to see blake hitting his jumpers but blake had a few good chances to give the clippers the lead but could not do anything in the post. He even passed it to dj who was at the elbow ft line. Big props to vucevic, that guy is the real deal.

Yeah, I know we all want us to be great right away. We'll even be tempted to believe we are until a loss like this happens. But it's a new coaching staff. A new system. A couple of new players. We weren't going to master the system in training camp. It's going to take time. We're going to take our lumps. We're going to win some games and lose some games. But I believe we'll find our footing sometimes within the season and by the second half will be one of the top 4 best teams in the league. It's tough to say we are right now because it's too unlikely to be that right out of the gate.

We need to be patient. I need to be patient. Does it make me angry when I see the bench suck? Does it make me angry when I don't see the DJ from the preseason show up in these games? Yes. But it's early. He's had to contend with some very good centers. So I'm being patient with him...and some of the other players. I'm not going to overreact the way one or two have about Blake.

Let's remain calm. We've got a LONG season to go.

Other players had a chance too. Only Blake and JJ brought us back. So a little perspective would be nice.

One player always plays like an all star against us. DJ is Bette, but still wouldn't call him an anchor.

Of all of our bench big, I trust more on BJ Mullens than Hollins.

Yes, other players had chances and they missed their shots. Blake had two really good chances to score in the closing minutes and he passes it up. The play was drawn out of a timeout. Blake posting up nicholson on the left block, backs him down, then passes to DJ who is standing at the elbow ft line with the shot clock running out. Then blake posting up nicholson on the right block, backs him down, and passes it out. These are plays that a rookie blake would have score and maybe get an and 1.

And Chris Paul missed a wide open 3, then later an easy layup. We could go on and on. Most of the time, in the remaining minute of a close game, a post up is not the best option unless it's wide open underneath. Mainly because you can usually get hammered without the ref's blowing the whistle. Admittedly, this is where he should learn to take a turnaround jumper. Still, he did nail a jumper late in the 4th, which I consider progress. Last season, he hardly ever got the ball in those moments.

Face it, it was a tough game for everyone involved. But we wouldn't have even been in that position if Blake hadn't put us there. Nobody could close the deal and perhaps we didn't deserve to close it the way we played in the first half.

Don't bother, Blake is untouchable. Nothing is ever his fault. Everyone played bad.

But he was the 1 guy that was shooting pretty good. And it got to a point where he completely vanished and did nothing to impact the outcome of the gm. Lesson from last night, if Chris Paul can't do it, it won't get done. You cannot count on Blake Griffin or DJ.

I think most of us have been fair in our criticisms of Blake. Just like we've been fair of our criticisms of all our players. It's just some people seem to blame Blake for everything. I think you know who you are.

I think with Blake we all see so much potential that when he doesn't live up to it some can get overly critical. It is easy to let those high, high expectation distort objectivity.

Like I said we go as far as Blake takes us and we saw what happened. Some of you need to listen to Shaq, Barkley, Stephen A Smith, Skip Bayless. I don't even think Blake is a top 5 power forward anymore..

I don't know how seriously a person can take your opinion if you actually value Skip Bayless's opinion on ANYTHING basketball related. Also shouldn't take Shaq or Barkley seriously.

Screamin A Smith at least is right some of the time so he is ok.

Whoah whoah whoah, I said Blake CHoked, but he was a big reason we were able to make that comeback. He just was stupid on the 2 most important possessions of the game. He's still a top 5 PF.

I hate losing these kinds of games but it is what it is. Happens to every good team. Long trip after big win at home, playing early. It happens.

Blake was frustrating at the end but that's because we all expect him to be infallible. He's not and neither is CP. A lot of guys missed down the stretch.

We'll probably win tonight and it balances out. You know if we would have won our 4th straight last night either Bron or the refs or both would have made sure we don't win tonight.

One min left in the game, tie game, would you rather have blake in the post, or KLOVE, Lamarcus, Dirk, Duncan, david west? Haha answer THAT question...

K Love would have taken a jumpshot not tried to score in the post.

Lamarcus who knows. Have we ever seen him in that situation?

Dirk is awesome in the clutch. He's also old.

Duncan missed a big layup in the Finals last year.

David West. Would probably have a chance down low...if he even got the ball in that situation.

Consider the question answered.

It was a bad game. At least we can take some good things out of it. Blake was hitting his jumpshot, DJ got his stat sheet full, and CP was good as usual. I'm not mad at these loses as long as our players are developing. The first half was what killed us. If they find a way to keep up the energy they had in the 3rd quarter, we'll be fine.

Is it just me, or does Dudley seem like he's getting slower and slower each game??

What I do like is we were still moving on offense. We didn't really get to the point, even in the first half, where we were just going for ISO plays. Seemed like we were just missing shots.

Actually here's what I would consider the question answered...Clutch stats, see shooting details, inside attempt % and eFG%:

http://www.82games.com/1213/12LAC13.HTM Blake 12/13

http://www.82games.com/1112/11LAC17.HTM Blake 11/12

http://www.82games.com/1213/12SAS16.HTM Duncan 12/13

http://www.82games.com/1112/11SAS21.HTM Duncan 11/12

http://www.82games.com/1213/12MIN16.HTM Love 12/13

http://www.82games.com/1112/11MIN12.HTM Love 11/12

http://www.82games.com/1213/12IND11.HT West 12/13

http://www.82games.com/1112/11IND9.HTM West 11/12

http://www.82games.com/1213/12DAL17.HTM Dirk 12/13

http://www.82games.com/1112/11DAL11.HTM Dirk 11/12

http://www.82games.com/1213/12POR13.HTM LA 12/13

http://www.82games.com/1112/11POR13.HTM LA 11/12

After looking at those numbers I would take Duncan in both 11/12 and 12/13. Both Blake and Duncan were close in inside attempt %...maybe Love in 12/13 but he had a smaller sample size.

So inside post, give me the HOF'r Duncan and then Blake.

Now this is an answer specific to the question asked...1 min down in the post, not who you would want from those same players taking clutch shots at end of the game. That's has a different ending.

Unless the player's 7 foot-whatever, or is willing to take a Ewing-like turnaround jumper, I'm not a fan of taking last second post up scores. When it comes to clutch baskets, I prefer to see a jumper or a drive to the basket (like we've seen Paul do). Honestly, I'd feel better seeing BG try for a midrange jumper in those situations. I've seen him hit one or two of those in the past. I remember 2 big time jumpers he hit in Demarcus Cousins' face 2 years ago in the clutch at Sac. But we all know Paul is known for clutch baskets and at least in the past Jamal and JJ have hit their share of big buckets too. Not like we don't have options. It just didn't go well last night.

Yes I agree, it's painful to watch him shuffling around. Plus he really needs to hit the gym. It's no surprise he is a bad rebounder he looks like a cream puff
