Clippers-Magic Preview By TAYLOR BECHTOLD Posted Nov 07 2013 1:46AM

After a tremendous scoring surge ended in the opener of their road trip, the Los Angeles Clippers may have a tough time bouncing back against the defending NBA champions.

The Heat have been tough to beat at home, winning 24 of 25 regular-season games in Miami dating to last season.

They're expected to have Chris Bosh back Thursday night when they try for their fifth straight home win against the Clippers.

Los Angeles (3-2) had been riding high under new coach Doc Rivers, averaging 124.3 points and shooting 50.6 percent from the field - including 36 of 90 from 3-point range - during a three-game winning streak.

The Clippers put up their highest point total since 2009 when they outran Houston 137-118 on Monday, but stumbled mightily in a surprising 98-90 loss at Orlando on Wednesday to open this three-game road swing.

They finished with season lows in points, field goal percentage (37.9), 3-point shooting (3 for 19) and assists (20). The lack of offense exposed a defense that is allowing a league-worst 109.6 points per game and ranks near the bottom in field goal (48.3) and 3-point percentages (40.7).

"We win games, we score 100 or whatever points, that's always fool's gold," said Rivers after his club allowed the Magic to shoot 48.8 percent from the field. "Our offense is always fool's gold. You've got to defend to win."

Chris Paul has continued to post big numbers, finishing with 18 points and 10 assists against the Magic for his fifth straight double-double. He's averaging career highs of 24.8 points and 12.6 assists through five games.

Paul, however, hasn't fared well against the Heat (3-2) since LeBron James joined them in the summer of 2010. He's averaging 14.0 points on 39.7-percent shooting against them over that span, including a 3-point effort in a 111-89 loss at Miami last February.

Blake Griffin, who led the Clippers with 23 points and 13 rebounds Wednesday, had 20 and 14 in the other meeting with the Heat - a 107-100 home win on Nov. 14.

Los Angeles is hoping for a quick turnaround against a Miami team seeking its third straight win following a 104-95 victory at Toronto on Tuesday.

With his game-high 35 points, LeBron James became the fifth player in NBA history to score 10 or more in 500 consecutive games. He joined Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (787 and 508), Michael Jordan (866), Karl Malone (575) and Moses Malone (526) as the only players to accomplish the feat.

"When I see a stat like that, I'm like `Wow,' because I know the history of the game, I know the guys who paved the way for myself and my teammates," said James, who also had eight rebounds and eight assists.

James, averaging 25.6 points, totaled 60 on 21-of-34 shooting against Los Angeles last season.

After missing Tuesday's contest due to the birth of his daughter, Bosh is expected to return against the Clippers. He's gotten off to a strong start, shooting 59.1 percent and scoring 19.8 per game.

Dwyane Wade, who has at least 20 points in three straight games, has averaged 25.3 and 8.4 assists in seven career home games versus Los Angeles.

The Heat have won four straight at home against the Clippers by an average of 18.8 points. http://www.nba.com/games/20131107/LACMIA/gameinfo.html?ls=slt

I expect CP3 to have a better night despite the fact he apparently doesn't usually play great against the Heat. Crawford used to be known as a Heat killer. I hope JJ is at least consistent tonight with open looks. Not sure what to expect from BG. Jumpers or low post. I would prefer low post as the Heat have some weaknesses down low. For the first game in a while, DJ won't have to contend with one of the best centers in the league so I expect him to step up. Between Dudley and Crawford, not sure if we'll have much success against LeBron. Who knows, we may see Blake on him a couple of times.

This is when we need a long wing player. Jared and JJ won't cut it.

I think he's still going to be out to injury, isn't he? Otherwise, I'd feel better about defending LeBron.

Another thread, and the newspaper today, say we are back to our old shenanigans of playing up to (or down to) our competition. Tonight will tell us how much truth there is in that statement. First game in which we are (in Vegas) the underdog.s

B2b against the Heat at home doesn't sound good. If we play like we did last night we will lose by 30. Hopefully we see something defensively.

One of our weapons when we beat the Heat in times past was our bench, Now we can bend over for them with the CRAP we have which we call bench.

lookin for big games from cp3 out to show he's the mvp this year, looking for jj to bounce back and have a big shooting night, also DJ, he's going up against Bosh!! he better have a monster rebounding night and control the paint! Ain't gonna say anything about Blake cause I already know he ain't gone do ****. He can't do shi in the post and is to scared to go there anyway. Don't get me started on his "jumper"

I am BG's biggest supporter. But, as time goes by, it becomes more obvious that the team can not depend on him. I know he had 23 points yesterday but it is WHEN he scores that is most troubling. BG scores when the games is 5 - 2 , or when game is not close, but I never see him attempt to score when it is 99 - 98 with 30 seconds to go. I would love to see Blake either win the game or lose the game, but TRY.

We match up well with Miami in general but given that we are IN Miami off a B2B and continue to play zero defense for the most part I think we lose by 12-14 points sadly. I won't be shocked if we win but I also have low expectations for this game. I'd rather us get all our heartbreaks early so MAYBE, just MAYBE our guys will finally learn from this sh*t. I'm okay with struggling but I'm not okay with old bad habits rearing their heads, mainly the playing down to lesser teams. Watch teams like the Spurs and you'll see the never do this. They execute bad teams by 30 and then rest the starters which is exactly what we should have been doing!

I completely agree. Everyone likes overreact to what happens so early in the season. They've only played 5 games. Remember when the Mavs the title? No one on earth other than a few Dallas fans thought they were going to win it all before the playoffs started. Can't we wait until we're at least 1/10 of the way into the season before we hit the panic button?

Repped High Quality Post

Sometimes I have to check and make sure I'm on a clippers FAN site. I see more hate for the clippers here than all the other sports forums combined lol...

WE WILL BE FINE. It's the beginning of the season. Miami has 2 losses to subpar teams.

We gave warriors and Houston their only losses.

No team has went 82-0, so be realistic. We will win some games and lose some games. If you are a true fan you stick with your team and keep your hopes up.

That's a thin line to walk. If a fan like myself says they are doubtful we beat Miami on the road of B2B tonight... that doesn't have ANYTHING to do with how dedicated they are. Now the few posters that spend 90 percent of their posts picking apart our players and team, sure I wonder sometimes. But remember every good group of fans has skeptics and optimists, learn to accept both parties.

Question: if you really don't think someone is as loyal a fan as you are...so what? You can still be a fan, you can still have discussions here with people whether or not you believe they are a fan. Attack the argument, not the people. That's something I've learned from this site, as someone who probably leans a little more toward the pessimist side of the spectrum and has been called out for not being a fan. I resorted to lashing back at those people, but I've learned to not care anymore about it. I'll talk ball with people here, regardless of how loyal they are, or how loyal they think I am.

All I ask tonight is to give reggie bullock some time. I really think that will help the bigs having a better rebounding and quicker defender at sf. Dudley will get torched by James. Not saying bullock for sure won't but at least he has the athleticism to give it a good whirl.

Yes the level to which people here right now are going to pick Blake apart despite 21/11/3 averages nearly... is really annoying. I pick him apart when he's being passive and say he needs to man up or w/e... but don't talk about him like he's a role player people.
