I love this kid and he gets an A+ so far. Sure Wade got the best of him one game... but every other game he's been not just good but OUTSTANDING. The guy is dominating this year and just getting into shape, so I don't expect it to change. He may be our most important X Factor next to DJ... where when he's on he makes us pretty unbeatable.

My favorite thing about him is that he plays 110 percent all the time. He takes off less plays than anybody on the team and never hangs his head. Even when Wade was locking him up he was running his ass off, fighting to the death. Unlike CP3/Griffin who hang their heads a lot and get taken out of games mentally.

Well he tries hard on D at least. He's just not gifted athletically lol.

Redick only gets abused on defense if you leave him on an island against a guy that is just physically superior. Outside of that he stays in front of his man, he is in defensive stance, he moves his feet well, he's active. Man, all this guy needs is a proper wingspan / standing reach to actually be a GOOD defender. So sad for him. It's not just athletic, it is that he has a shorter reach than Bledsoe I believe, he's a small man basketball wise. If he has some Kirilenko arms....

...but if he had that kind of reach he also would be a more accomplished NBA player because he could get more shots up against defenders and in the lane, so he wouldn't likely be a Clipper.

...I was high on Redick the whole way though, so what can I say, I'm loving that he's playing well. I thought the fit would be great and I knew people really underrated his ability to put the ball on the floor, pass, essentially do more than just shoot spot up, and also his ability to compete on the defensive end.

Dude got 4 steals tonight. Has he ever gotten 4 steals? lol

Seriously, he ALWAYS gets + in the +/- column, even in losses. He's leading the team right now in that category. I think it's not just because of his scoring (which is highest it's been since joining the NBA), not just because he's playing hard on D. But because he keeps the offense flowing. Just the way Doc invisioned it. Having said that, I still believe he'll be even more consistent as the season progresses. I don't necessarily mean he'll continue to score 16-20 points a game, but I think his 3 point shooting will actually go up.

Redick fitting in perfectly with Clippers By Arash Markazi HOUSTON -- When Doc Rivers became the head coach and senior vice president of basketball operations for the Los Angeles Clippers almost five months ago, there were a handful of players he targeted. It was a realistic list of available role players who would fit his system and could be acquired through free agency or a sign-and-trade deal since the Clippers were already over the salary cap. Since joining the Clippers, J.J. Redick is averaging 16.8 points per game and knocking down over 35 percent of his 3-point attempts. The name at the top of....

I only listened to a little of the game tonight (I was too nervous to watch). During the second quarter Redick was even smothering Howard defensively. He seems to be very intent on being known as a defender too. I knew he was going to be a good acquisition, but I honestly had no idea he was going to be this good.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. He got in the paint and kept Howard from going up with the ball. It's so nice to have two scrappers in the backcourt!

Not sure if you guys noticed but Crawford+Redick seem to have bonded quickly. No bad blood, both guys cheering loudly for each other and their chemistry together with small ball has been INSANELY good, at least on offense. Little did I know SG would be our strongest position when you combine starter and backup. I thought PG or PF would be.

Paul has this weird love for shooters. It was the same situation when Peja joined the Hornets. If the Hornets could have gotten a younger healthier Peja and a healthier Chandler, they could have been a pretty crazy team for a couple of years.

Paul actually meshes very well with guys like that and he will look for them a lot.

Why PF? You thought Mullens would be good? So far Collison has been really under-performing. Once we get Barnes back and Collison plays his regular game we will be a lot better. Not to mention Dudley is looking better/isn't 100% healthy yet.

Naw Jamison looked very solid in preseason. I had Blake/Jamison being very good for us. In general bench+SF needs to give us more production. Everybody else i solid. Although 3 straight mediocre games from CP3 (by his standards) sucks. This guy admitted the loss to Heat was on him.. then comes out with 4 shot attempts in the first half again tonight. He's not looking for his shot enough. I'd rather him focus everything into 1st+4th quarter instead of 3rd+4th.

Yeah I noticed how JJ cheered when Jamal hit that buzzer beater when he could have been down after missing the wide open jumper. I've seen JJ cheering from the beginning when a teammate has made shots. Just like I see him get visibly angry when he's called for a foul or when we are losing. I think it's a good kind of angry though.

His D is surprisingly solid in sets, but the man needs to learn a thing or two about transition d! I often see him back, but instead of stopping a man (preferably whoever has the ball), he'll hang around under the rim waiting to challenge a lay up, and He doesn't have the heigh of length to do so.

A timely thread 86. I am totally loving what this guy is doing for the Clips. He is exactly what we needed. We now have 4 of our 5 starters who are big players.

But but but but,Charles "fat -arse-know-it-all-Barkley" came right out and said Reddick is no way a starter on any NBA team in the league.

So nice to see that idiot wrong, again. JJ is our shining light when things get dim.

Yeah, JJ has a lot of skills that he surprisingly isn't known for. I love his intensity too. I think of all the player on this team he seems to appreciate where he is at. Prior to the start of the season he recounted his excitement of being told by his agent that the Clippers were a possibility. Now that he's on the team you can tell he's trying his best to let this team and city know that he's going to give it his all...what a rare find.

Well said. Sometimes the preseason can be telling on how much effort a player will give for the regular season. Last year during preseason Matt Barnes was lighting it up, and this preseason effort continued on to the regular season. This year we saw some nice efforts from Jamison. I believe that he can carry that on to the regular season as well.

Mullens has the potential to be good provided he's given instruction to play a certain way. During the preseason we saw him chuck up shots from beyond the arc, and frankly he proved he isn't that good at it. Doc was wise to limit his minutes after Mullens' disastrous preseason display. However, during the first Houston game Mullens played very efficiently, only taking three 3-pointers, and making two. He finished that night with 12 points (on 5-6 attempts), 4 rebounds, 2 steals. What the stat sheets also don't show is how difficult he made it for Howard to operate. His length was giving Dwight Howard problems and he couldn't seem to get comfortable against Mullens.

I'm not saying Mullens is our long term answer, even for the bench, but surely he is capable of playing better provided he plays like a big man and operate from inside the paint. The Houston game should be a good blueprint for how to correctly maximize Mullens.

The issue is consistency, Mullens having one good game doesn't mean if you just try and play him inside, he's successful. Charlotte already tried different methods of utilizing him, as well as OKC. 3 three point attempts was still a lot for Mullens minutes, so the fact that he made two just means he can't miss them all, he isn't going to shoot 0%.

One big issue is how he misses. He's wide open and he'll miss to the side of the backboard quite often. Defensively, he just isn't in good position on pic and rolls, that's the major play ran in the NBA and as a big man if you can't execute decently in that set you will hurt your team too much on defense.

Very true, but until you employ that strategy more and prove that it doesn't work the jury isn't out. So essentially we need a bigger sample, and I would love for doc to provide him that opportunity. At worst he proves he still can't be a consistent scorer with the focus being inside point, at best he proves he can be more efficient and our overall team effort thrives. Even if this doesn't work then the experiment to play him inside will have the benefit of at least ruling out all the options with Mullens, and if that is the case then hey there's always the trade deadline.

I know you were not that pleased that we got him in the first place and quick to let us all know that you had serious doubts about him. So far it looks like you were totally right and unless things change I would be pleased to see the back of him.

Please tell me Doc can find us a decent back up big.

I think since his 3PT shot is off he should just operate near the basket like you said. I want to say and also only shoot open three's, but the problem is that he's basically always open, so maybe on super open three's. He isn't really bad near the basket playing off other guys.

Of course Doc is probably thinking my purpose for getting this guy wasn't to play near the basket, and technically in that offensive role, Hollins I probably just a good or better.

Of course that doesn't help on defense, but at least on offense he won't make you cringe, but it's still hard to put him on because of what you'll get on defense.

Silasie, you are correct, I watched more than I should have of him as. a Bobcat and I was soured against his game.

Still, even though I was critical of the player he had been and not convinced he would be that useful, I still wanted him to be decent and prove me wrong. I was REALLY hoping he could become a 34-36% 3PT shooter, take out his mid-range shots he hardly makes and just do three's and at the rim (where he isn't bad) like Jamison did last season.

Then I was hoping he could also be at least just a below average defender and decent IQ player as opposed to a pretty bad defender and low IQ player.

Admittedly, that is a lot more transformation and improvement to ask from a player than it seems, but one can hope.

I don't want to be clueless, but I mean technically he can still get it together right? Of course the team shouldn't bank on that by any means, but yea...

^Well until we get another back up big the experiment will continue and we can live in hope but I suspect he just not going to work out.

I was watching the Kings game back today and the commentator kept saying that he was a good 3 pt shooter every time he shot and I had to laugh.

JJ is one of my favorite Clippers now. As much I liked Chauncey and Caron, Redick and Dudley are more consistent shooters. JJ is that legitimate 2 guard we've been looking for since we traded away Eric Gordon.

Yeah, I think we haven't really seen the real JJ yet on offense. I don't think he can maintain the hot shooting opening quarter all season; however, I also don't think he'll miss a lot of the wide open shots he's missed so far. I think we'll see a nice happy medium in between. I love what I'm seeing though with his activity and how just his presence helps the overall offense.

JJ was on fire yesterday. It was exciting to see him make his 3s and pull-up jump shots with precision. He has been a great addition to this team --- a pure shooting guard that we desperately needed.

I love having him on the team. Seeing him go up for that jumper and expecting him to hit every time is such a great feeling. Note: of course I don't expect him to be 100%, but when he shoots my expectation is a bucket just like when Mullens shapes up to shoot I expect a brick.

You could tell by his shooting form last night they were gonna go in. Against OKC, he was missing a lot of shots, but the form didn't quite look the same. It looked like he was rushing the shot. But last night was vintage JJ shooting form.

Also, as I've mentioned before, I love his fire. He's our biggest cheer leader out there. Every tough Blake basket he'd go over to Blake and slap hands with BG and pat his chest. When BG gave us that scare and was walking gingerly off the court, JJ was clapping his hands trying to keep the team pumped. And when JJ was resting on the floor in front of the bench and saw Jamal hit a big shot, JJ raised his arms in celebration!

He's a great teammate!

Does anyone know if JJ has participated in the 3-point contest at All-star weekend? I'd have to think he'd be able to win it with his quick release and his beautiful stroke.

1st time he's ever made the ballot, so that's a good sign. He generally just doesn't have the name recognition in the NBA (at college yes, NBA, no) to get the call. Maybe starting this year in a big market will get him the recognition, but he is still, at best, the 4th most high profile player on the team and is likely 6th, so that doesn't help his cause. I'd argue the following are all more high profile (not better or more important to the team, just well known to the average NBA fan) - (1) Paul, (2) Blake, (3) Jordan, (4) Crawford, (5) Barnes - because of the reality TV stuff.

So, we'll see.

That said, not sure if it is true anymore (or was even true at the time), but at one point with the Magic when he was lobbying for the 3pt contest, JJ claimed to he had never lost a 3pt contest. It's believable enough but no idea if its true.

It's true, those 3 have been solid (Blake better than solid) but we really need CP's jumper back. It would be great to get some production out of Barnes, Collison and Dudely too!

But Chris' shot is the big one.

Just like JJ Love seems to get hot in the 1st quarter, it would be great if Blake or DJ could break that up some.

JJ Hadn't gotten much publicity because up until his contract year

last season he was considered a bust by most people.

Considering the fact he was like 11th overall pick, best shooter

in Duke history as well has holding the record for most 3

pointers in NCAA history, people thought he would be

not a superstar, but more than a bench warmer.

With that said I think JJ is in a great system

where he can shine. A Lot of early off the ball

movement with the best PG in the league.

Yeah, I love JJ's honesty when he talked about how he came to the realization he would never be a star in the league. It's almost shocking to hear someone say that. Not sure I believe it. If he continues at his current path, he will be enough of a star I think...especially if the team obtains the kind of success it's hoping for.

I find it interesting that, despite all the praise SVG heaps on JJ, his Orlando coach never took a chance starting JJ. I guess it's because he always had a Vince Carter or Afflalo in front of him. Having said that, JJ's shooting percentage has always been pretty good and his numbers have improved every single season. So hopefully he maintains this production.
