Every Time someone makes a Blake is great thread he reverts back. Horrible 4th qtr. Passed up a number of shots. Didn't have an impact in crunch time

Yeah it's probably best to come back with that stuff on nights where Blake wasn't the ONLY guy who showed up in the game!

Lmao Blake was still easily our best player tonight with 23/11/2/2.

Think of it this way - the Grizzlies have one of the best interior defenses of the Clippers will face, and Blake had a solid statistical game that could have been much better with a few breaks. He is doing just fine. It is the rest of the team that has me worried...

Yeah if Blake can continue to have success with his game and show versatility n his range, then the Clippers can go far. He is becoming a lot more dynamic in this league as a big man.

I don't even know if I'd say that Blake has ever really struggled offensively in any consistent manner vs Memphis to be honest. He's done quite well against them, especially since in the playoffs they have kept him off the glass.

For example in 11-12, he was much worse against SA despite averaging more PPG

I like that we didn't front Z Bo and Gasol to keep them off the glass last night. By NOT doing that, it allowed our big guys to get a lot of boards also.

This is funny. Blake's 1st posterizing this year came against his own teammate Hollins, lol.

I like what Doc said about putting pressure on Blake. He says he demands a lot of Blake. I think Blake likes that too. When you think about it, his father coached him and his brother in high school and it's been said he was way tougher on his boys than the other players. I think a young player like Blake needs that kind of authority to become a better player!

Yeah I really like what Blake is doing so far. Showing some good versatility in his game. Also, has really shown some great athleticism.

@MartyKahn

When our MVP candidate takes over in the 4th, pretty much 9 other guys get to stand around and watch.

When CP3 wasn't so hot, however... check out this 3rd Q from Blake:

11.12 - Griffin Layup Shot: Made (6 PTS) Assist: Paul (5 AST)

10.16 - Griffin Jump Shot: Made (8 PTS) Assist: Dudley (3 AST)

08.52 - Griffin Layup Shot: Made (10 PTS) Assist: Paul (6 AST)

07.55 - Griffin Rebound (Off:1 Def:4)

07.13 - Griffin Rebound (Off:1 Def:5)

06.47 - Griffin Rebound (Off:1 Def:6)

06.22 - Griffin Rebound (Off:1 Def:7)

05.49 - Griffin Rebound (Off:1 Def:8)

05.25 - Griffin Jump Shot: Made (12 PTS) Assist: Paul (8 AST)

04.52 - Griffin Turnover : Backcourt Turnover (1 TO)

04.38 - Griffin Layup Shot: Made (14 PTS) Assist: Redick (4 AST)

03.53 - Griffin Driving Layup Shot: Made (16 PTS)

02.07 - Griffin Jump Shot: Made (18 PTS)

00.57 - Griffin Substitution replaced by Dudley

He singlehandedly kept us in the game.. but yeah... carry on saying he sucks roll

That is great. Come out of half time with a tied game and one star keeps us in it in the 3rd and the other star finished them off in the 4th. That is a winning combo right there. Nice!

Bursitis. Don't know why he took the sleeve off. Thing is hideous. Mayve he feels more comfortable w/o the sleeve though.

Yeah players have sleeves all over their bodies in today's NBA. One sleeve wouldn't hurt, Blake!

Maybe when people told Blake he needs to work on his elbow jumper he took it literally and started working out his elbows and those are just muscles on them.

Blake is so ripped he has biceps on his elbows. Evolution, that's what that is.

Really happy with Blake's improvement. I hope that he'll continue to build confidence, and become a dominant force in the 4th quarter of games. Even if he doesn't, I just hope he continues on the path that he's started so far this season, and improves even more. He's really beginning to look like Superman out there

He was good in the Minnesota game but made some poor decisions in the 4th. His mid range game looks respectable now. Befoe I used to cringe every time he took a jumper since it would usually rim out but now I see a lot more jumpers fall in. Some nice swishes too.

I didn't see the game last night but I wouldn't be surprised if he's still not quite confident in the 4th. It's been a LONG time since we've given him the confidence to exert himself down the stretch. But Doc has done just that. We've seen Blake more active offensively in the 4th than we have since he was a rookie, so I love the direction he's headed.

His jumper doesn't have much arch to it, but it has started to drop.

We've all harped on Blake and his effectiveness in the 4th quarter but I think its safe to say our biggest concern right now should be our defense and bench not BG (although I have been a critic of his)

It is not to criticize BG, because we all want to support and root for him. But it is obvious he will not take over a game in the 4th qtr. He will take over in the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd. Hopefully Doc can make BG want to impact the game and let him know he will not win 100% of time, but he needs to be assertive. We need another closer that plays inside, otherwise with 10 seconds to play in a play-off game, the other team will put 5 guys on CP. We need to balance the floor.

Honestly, most big men don't consistently have this role on their team anyways. Blake doesn't need to take over every 4th quarters but clearly he can produce depending on the game. With good guards like Paul, Redick and Crawford, there's no true "need" for. Blake to be consistently trying to take over games in the 4th as a means of proving something.

The 4th quarter offense was good last season and the one before, it was crunch time defense that was terrible.

What you said is true. I suppose I want Blake to assert himself in 4th for my satisfaction. I gladly admit he has improved a great deal this season, I just thought this one thing was still missing.

To be fair even guys like Shaq didn't consistently close games in the 4th. Typically its the PG/wing player that does that. Of course guys like Dirk are the exception because they don't play like the "traditional" big man.

It's funny that TNT last night was critical of Blake taking too many jumpers last night....after being criticized for NOT having a reliable jumper. BG unleashed an array of impressive jumpers last night. I do agree with the guys, however that it's not a great idea for him to "fall in love" with the jumper, because he's most effective inside. However when a guy is feeling it, I don't mind so much.

Apparently Blake is leading the NBA in points in the paint, so I'm not overly concerned he'll abandon his inside game. What I love about his performance against OKC is that he shot with so much confidence that I think it will help in the long run. Games like that will only encourage him to shoot at times he might have deferred to Paul or tried some questionable inside move.

I must admit, I was apprehensive about Blake at the elbow. I thought Blake would struggle in that area. But I can't argue with the numbers. What Blake is doing right now is working. Can he be even better? Of course. But I see confidence growing. I see less hesitation. I see him scoring buckets in 4th quarters. I see him taking over games in moments.

Watching some of the highlights last night, I can't help but wonder if Blake should try more turnaround jumpers in the paint. Not necessarily those Dream-like turnarounds, but when we really need a basket and he's posted down low. Instead of going for a difficult up and under or hard fought attempt like the one that got blocked by Ibaka last night, go for a turnaround.

Blake's jumper looked really good. I even saw a nice turnaround jumper from him. I didn't mind him taking that many jumpers since he was hot. I was not a big fan of our defense however. Especially DJ's. Saw BG miss a few contests as well but it was largely DJ that disappointed me.

DJ seems tired to me! His legs don't have that spring which is troubling since we're only 13 games into the season.

I think it is obvious that you don't want Griffin taking a ton of 18 footers. You don't want anyone taking those shots - almost the entire league shoots a relatively low percentage on that shot. What you do want is to draw some defense out to help spacing. I have no complaints with Blake's offensive strategy. Last night it was clear we were playing a road back-to-back. That is a big deal that the media totally overlooks. BG (and DJ) came out really slow, then BG caught a second wind but then faltered down the stretch. That was due to being tired - not much else.

Also, some of the BG 4th quarter struggles are do to the fact that he normally sits 4-5 minutes in the quarter - even more under VDN. That is going to hurt your numbers no matter what. I also agree with what others have said about no interior players taking over at the end of games. You can't play like that in the NBA because the rules favor perimeter players. This is clear. Try to get a foul call on a post up with under 10 seconds left.

I noticed that too but remember we had a B2B on the road. The problem is he doesn't even raise his arms to contest shots which has nothing to do with his legs.

Plus his minutes have risen by 45% so far. Need a average at least back up big.

No he doesn't seem tired. He seems like he is pouting for not getting the ball or something. He has looked totally out of it last few games. No fire. No defense intensity.

I'd rather see him foul out by being aggressive and protecting the paint, then watch him let guys float by untouched.

DJ's performance might be better with 30-32 MPG. I think with a solid big man and giving him 30-32 MPG, we will see less situations where he doesn't look as active as he should. In the playoffs he can play about 34 MPG or more if needed.

The obvious issue is that it would mean a backup big playing 16-18 MPG at C and that will loose games for this team based on the backup play so far

Giving Barkley a bit of slack he's comparing Blake to himself. He of course believes that every PF but Malone and Duncan should be just like him and are and always inferior to him. Taking jumpers was ridiculous. He did give Blake praise once when he told the rest of the team to GTF outta his way. That's what a champion does according toCB

I wish people would recognize how many times someone penetrates and gets an easy score because Blake's defender is afraid to rotate and give up a dunk.

But perception becomes truth because casual fans listen to the talking heads and regurgitate their opinions as "knowledge" to try to sound informed.

They watch a top-10 dunks highlight reel and make their judgements of players based on that instead of watching games.

Nobody becomes a career 20ppg scorer without an elite post game or jumpshot - or being above average at both - but apparently Blake doesn't have either and can't make a FT. I guess he's getting 10 fast break dunks every single night.

Blake's development is very impressive but it's not what I'm looking for just yet. He's still too slow setting up his jumpshot, his post game is still not where it needs to be but it's getting there, and finally his defense is almost there, just needs to get a little more aggressive on both the offensive and defensive glass. I know his arms are a bit too short to make significant blocking numbers but I expect him to at least make one a game

A. How much faster do you want his jumper than what he was hitting against OKC? (rhetorical)

B. Leads the league in points in the paint, his lack of post moves is overstated.

C. Valid enough point on Defense.

D. As long as DJ's rebounding like he is, Blake is just fine averaging 10-11 rebounds. Besides, Doc doesn't usually like his teams to go for too many offensive rebounds. He prefers they get back on defense.

E. Shot blocking more about instinct than athleticism. Look at Tim Duncan. Blake is not a center. He will not average a block a game. He will come close but that's not his game. That's DJ's game. Karl Malone wasn't a shotblocker. However Blake has quick hands and is averaging more than 1 steal a game, just like last year. We should appreciate that aspect of his defense.

Basically you want him to be Karl Malone on offense and a defensive center on the other. A lot to ask any player!

Blocks per game isn't a great indicator of defense usually unless your a C.

I want him to do a better job contesting shots not trying to block them which can lead to fouls.

Blake Griffin had his right elbow drained after the Los Angeles Clippers' blowout victory over the Chicago Bulls on Sunday afternoon.

Griffin has had chronic issues with a burst bursa sac.

Griffin scored 15 points with 12 rebounds on Sunday and is averaging over 22 points and 10 rebounds this season.

Btw how serious is this injury?
