I have a feeling Paul's injury had only a little to do with it. He was only hurt a week ago. How far behind him was curry in the last ballot?

why are you all voting for clipper players to tire out (and potentially get hurt) in some meaningless exhibition? its the perfect time for a much needed rest - the season's about to get real.

no thank you. CP, Blake, etc. - stay home.

its all so pointless to me.

I doubt CP3 will catch up. Injury = less casual fans voting.

I don't think a 48 minute exhibition game where nobody plays defense is going to be a season killer. If our star players can't handle that then it's safe to say we aren't going to win jack **** anyways if they are that big of pansies.

Just sit back, crack open a cold one and enjoy it and don't take it so seriously.

Personally I'd love for Blake to make use of the West All-star teammates to learn a few things.

its not just the game, its the travel/media/schedule/etc. instead of all that hustle & bustle, would rather have them recharge.

as for blake learning that weekend, considering "practice" is pretty much players just farting around, there's a good chance no one's trying to go out of their way to make rivals better.

but i get it, it's meant to be fun.

btw, its gonna be SMH-worthy to see a bunch of crappy Eastern Conference players get the title "All-Star" on their resume while a bunch of top Western Conference players don't get acknowledged. add the fact that the starters are just the product of a popularity contest and the whole "All-Star" title becomes pretty washed out and, for the most part, meaningless.

Curry was behind by 50k-100k votes from what I remember.

It might be a blessing that cp misses ASG since he will be just back from the shoulder injury theextra rest will help, BG on the other hand would luv to see, he was born to be in it, very few players can provide the sort of highlights like BG can that you expect to see in an ASG

I was disappointed Curry overtook CP's lead. It would be prudent for CP not to play in the All-Star game just to protect the rehab progress he's made, but at the same time, I liked that he had gotten more votes than Curry. Perhaps it'll all work out in the end with CP voted in as a starter, but not play.

You won't win an MVP if you can't even get voted as the starter for the ASG

You also won't win MVP when you miss 20 games. I don't like the idea of Curry being the starter over CP3. Hope people start voting more for CP3.

I am voting for CP3 and Blake every opportunity I can get. Through texting, twitter, facebook and the nba.com website. Love can potentially surpass Blake in votes too. This is why its not a good idea to have the mindset that CP3 and Blake are locks for starting and not vote.

This mindset allowed guys like Curry and Love to come close or even surpass them in votes.

There's only 5 days left to vote, c'mon guys we can't let Kevin Love sneak his way in. He's gross.

If Curry gets in and he lights it up we may never see Chris as a starter ever again.

Curry is a lock, whether by vote or the coaches, and CP3 will not be playing, so it is a risk.

Only 12 players can make the All-star team.

Curry, Kobe, Durant, Griffin, Howard will most likely be the starters. That leaves 7 players.

Love, Aldridge, Harden, Lillard, Cousins and Parker are pretty much locks for the reserves. That leaves 1 spot. Can DJ take that spot?

Davis and Dirk are his only really tough competition. They are both PF's and there are already 3 (4 if you count Cousins) PF's on the team. The coaches might seriously want another Center.

I like DJ's chances, especially since we are a top 4 seed, unlike Pelicans and Mavs.

Good article on the All Star Game

DeAndre Jordan receives dunk contest invite, but is waiting to see if he's an All-Star before accepting

Brett Pollakoff

Jan 18, 2014, 2:00 PM EST

Deandre Jordan would be fantastic as a participant in All-Star weekend's slam dunk contest. He's a big man who also has tremendous leaping ability, and could be the next incarnation of Dwight Howard in terms of entertainment during the midseason exhibition.

The league recognized that fact by approaching Jordan about it before Friday's game against the Knicks. The answer wasn't necessarily no, but Jordan wants to be known as more than just a dunker, and is holding out hope that he might have to make the trip to New Orleans anyway as a member of the Western Conference All-Stars.

From Brad Turner of the Los Angeles Times:

DeAndre Jordan wants to be in the All-Star game as a participant, not just as a dunker.

So when NBA officials approached the Clippers' center before Friday's game about being in the dunk contest, Jordan told them what his true wish was.

"I just told them I wanted to see what happens," Jordan said. "I'm not trying to disrespect them. But I want to be in the All-Star game as a player and not just as a dunker."

If Jordan is firm in implying that he won't enter the dunk contest unless he's an All-Star, then we can essentially count him out for this season.

Jordan has been elite as a defender for the Clippers, and leads the league in rebounding while being in the top three in the category of blocked shots. But just as the West is very deep in terms of talented teams, the All-Star caliber players run deep, too. The coaches are likely looking at guys like Kevin love and LaMarcus Aldridge for two of the frontcourt reserve spots, and DeMarcus Cousins will be hard to ignore for what's likely going to be the final All-Star nod for a big man in the conference.

Guards and wings are likely to make up the rest of the roster, but it's not 100 percent guaranteed that'll be the case. Jordan may have reason to hold out hope that his defensive effort has been noticed by the coaches in the West, and that an All-Star spot could potentially be in his future. The chances appear to be slim at this point, however, so we'll have to wait and see if that means Jordan will skip out on the weekend's festivities entirely, which would include the slam dunk contest.

I don't think DJ is deserving this year. Too many good PFs and centers right now(only two good centers but loads of PFs). I also think that DJ not getting the nod will motivate him to work harder and play with a chip on his shoulder.

I mean, I'm glad he's more confident now. But I kinda feel like he hasn't really earned the right to demand that when being approached about the slam dunk competition. He should be happy about the Dunk invite for NOW. How many times was Redick denied the 3 point competition for example? Keep playing well and the All Star voting will happen.

I think DJ should just accept the Dunk invitation. That's an honor. Even Bled did it last year and he wasn't in the All-Star game. DJ will get name recognition for participating and it'll keep him in people's minds for the future. If he wins, he can pad his NBA resume with that. He'll be a full-fledged All-Star someday as long as he continues his great progress. Having a better free throw shooting (at least 50%) percentage would help his case too.

Keep voting guys... forget what people are saying about this being a meaningless game. More recognition for our players means more money and better rep from the officials. And that also means happier players, and happier players means more fun and effort.

DeAndre had more than 16+ rebounds in his last 3 games against the 3 best Defensive Centers in the East.

He's an All-Star.

Chris got beat by Curry, but atleast Blake got in.

Also, K Love sneaked past Howard as the starting Center.

So sadly, it's Kobe and Curry in the starting backcourt. Of course Kobe won't be playing as far as I know. Maybe CP3 still has a chance. But Blake is starting for the 3rd straight year. Kevin Love made up serious ground but on Dwight Howard, not Blake. So we're gonna see Durant, Blake and Love in the frontcourt. Should be interesting!

Wow. It's all small forwards in the East frontcourt. LBJ, Paul George and Carmelo. Blake should feast on those guys inside. lol

Only upside I can see in this is Cp3 trying to prove why he should've been the starter during the rest of the season and he really turns it on. At least I hope so haha

I think it makes more sense for LMA to start over Love. His team has the better record and he actually can switch to center position. But I get why Love got in. He's a big numbers kinda guy.

I don't think you understand. He's using the dunk contest as motivation to earn an all star spot, not holding it for ransom. He's said he doesn't want to participate in it before going home during the big game, and he has a point. If he makes another big leap next season, I think he gets the coaches vote.

IF there were ever a year DJ deserves a spot on the team, this is the year. Problem is, Aldridge and Howard will both get nods to be on the team, Westbrook and a healthy CP3 will join them. Wouldn't be surprising at all if David Lee or Damian Lillard also got in. Spots are limited.
