Well that deal is only benefits one person I reckon, unless merchandising etc are that valuable to the Lakers franchise.

Excellent. Now when they sign Melo next year the drama will be on over drive, LOL.

Dumb move....real dumb. Keep up the "good" work there Jimbo.

My underrated storyline/hope is that they can't afford to keep Jordan Hill and we get him with the MLE... I like his rebounding and he has a decent post-game.

That would be a very good move and with Jimmy Boy running the show it could very well come to fruition.

Unfortunately your Knicks will be in crash mode for a while I'm afraid.

Did you get to Vegas and bet the under 50 line yet...at least you can make some $ off them. Smile

2 years, $48,500,000...

For a 35-year-old coming off an Achilles tear. Shrewd move, Kupcake.

Nope I don't gamble but if I did I would have put under 45. I already knew they were going to be awful. Embarassed

Sad to be a Knicks fan but I am pretty much numb to the constant failure since I have low expectations and am used to them failing.

LOL, some Laker fans label this as a "pay-cut"

I'd take a "pay-cut" also if it meant I'd be getting paid twice what I'm worth.

I found its funny that Lakers homer think that the salary cap restriction was due to against the Lakers. But do they know that the person who agree with this restriction was no other than Kobe Bryant's buddy, Derek Fisher, who is at the time was the head of the Players Union. Call me amused.

My laker buds do not like this at all. Even though they are still hoping, no, dreaming, no, delusional about king James, they know this hurts their chances.

I think James rather play with Wade over Chuckbe. Not to mention the Heat have the better FO + more talent.

I say the chances at this point are 0%.

A good read on the "kobecide" signing. The once shinning franchise turning rusty and dull very quickly:

^ Very interesting info regarding their much vaunted 2014 cap space.

Funny thing is, everybody wins in this deal... well, almost everybody.

Kobe makes out like a bandit despite the fact that there was never a credible threat of him retiring anywhere else. His laker-legacy is too important to his ego, and besides, no other big market team has the cap to sign him. He gets to chase individual stats to his heart's content without the nuisance of having to actually share the ball with another elite player or two.

Jeannie Buss makes a $50,000,000 investment that is sure to double or triple with Staples sellouts and merchandising, thereby adding to her bottom line.

Jim Buss gets to throw his Daddy's money around and pretend to the fans that he has 1/10th of his acumen, by repeating Jerry's "win at all cost" mantra... without actually achieving the same results.

Kobe fan-boys get to see another 2 years of him taking 25 shots to score 28 points and proclaiming he's better than LeBron based on PPG alone.

And as Scott Howard-Cooper pointed out today, the other 29 teams benefit because the lakers with 2 legit stars PLUS kobe's scoring threat would have been pretty dominant.

Wouldn't surprise me if even Mr. & Mrs. Sterling popped a bottle of Bollinger and made nasty last night, because this ensures the Clippers are still the best team in L.A. for the foreseeable future and that another year of pre-teens just discovering the game will follow the Clips deep into the playoffs.

The only ones who really got kicked in the nuts are longtime fans of the lakers franchise. Ones who would go to games with or without kobe and pay their money on the understanding that the franchise will do their utmost to try to win... maybe not win it all every year, but at least make an honest effort. But who cares about those guys? They're up in the rafters or at least 15 rows behind this week's 3rd rate celebrities. It's not like those fans are ever on TV or anything.

So congratulations lakers... you got your man (and your guaranteed profits)... and from a Clippers fan... thank you. And to those loyal laker fans left holding their swollen balls again after the TWC sellout and now this... perhaps it's time you gave a look to the Los Angeles basketball team whose owner actually cares about winning!

Oh, how the tables have turned!

Kobe has always been a hog. A ball hog. A lyin'-cheatin'-no-good-husband hog. And now...he's a cap-space-worry-about-no-one-but-his-businessman-self hog. Lol

At any rate, he would have been called a fool for turning down what the Lakers offered. Lakers can only hope that Kobe can still be a draw to Staples Center and fill those seats whether he plays or not for the next THREE years.

Whatever. This benefits the Clippers since the Lakers will wallow in Kobeland for a while and will be challenged to find the right pieces to complement their aging star whose effectiveness from his Achilles injury has yet to be tested in games.

Great deal as far as I am concerned. Shoot yourselves in the foot to keep Mamba.

The only thing i cannot understand is how Fakers fans always decide the biggest free agents are all lining up to be Fakers. You read their posts and they have Carmelo and LEBron and Love to name a few dying to be on their team. I don't understand that logic. Maybe Love would really like to be a Spur or maybe Love will stay put because money talks. Not everyone in the league wants to be a Laker, they have to live with that but it is not in their bubble.

And PS to Kobe, get over CP3. Make your peace with it and move on.

To be fair, he technically did take a pay cut..

I ain't even mad, since he just pushed the Lakers towards a couple more years of mediocrity.
