The Los Angeles Clippers were the favorite team of Paul George when he was growing up in the area.

The Clippers could have selected George in the 2010 NBA Draft, but instead selected Al-Farouq Aminu.

"I'm happy where I'm at being here but (the Clippers) were one of the teams that did overlook me," George said. "So I always have that in the back of my mind when I play them."

Everything turned out better for both us. No way we would have this team

if we had drafted PG. But does make for interesting conversation.

Paul George's team makes him the star he is. They have

an awesome defensive and offensive system because it runs

with a bunch of role players and PG.

There were plenty of us begging for the clippers to draft him and predicted he could be this kind of player with in 5 years. Aminu couldn't shoot that well and we drafted him when we really needed a shooter. It's didn't make sense on a lot of levels to draft Aminu especially since people weren't even sure if he was going to play PF or SF and we already had Blake Griffin.

To expound can you imagine what our team would have been like? Starting lineup would have been:

PG Eric Bledsoe

SG Eric Gordon

SF Paul George

PF Blake Griffin

C Deandre Jordan

A top 10 pick in the 2011 draft (I really think there is no chance we won the lottery if we kept the pick) and could have selected Klay Thompson, vucevic, kahwi leonard.

This doesn't even mention whatever free agents we could have signed. What's insane is all these guys would have been on their rookie contracts for the 2010-11 and 2011-12 season and who knows maybe sign Eric Gordon maybe not but that would have been awesome team with a lot of cap room and all the players having bird rights. Fun to think about!

That team looks like the warriors from 2009. Run, gun, and fun.. But no real chance of winning anything. lol

Only difference is 4 of those 5 starters are excellent defenders (Blake griffin being the only one who isn't). Also they are all good defenders and only 2 of the players rely actively on 3pt shooting and are all good rebounders (minus Eric Gordon).

So I guess it would probably be a very different squad

Bro lol you are looking at this from the DJ of today. Bledsoe is a great defender, gordon is injury prone, paul george is nice, blake no defense, DJ prior to this season one of the worse defenders for his potential we've ever seen.

So who would be our starting sg then since eric gordon is ALWAYS hurt? I'm happy with what we have. 5+ more years of blake and CP, 3+ more with JJ and Doc.

It could actually be possible to have a core of CP3, BG, PG if we included Bledsoe in the CP3 trade instead of PG. That would be a sick core but we would have to give PG a max contract. 3 max contracts=bad.

It's worked pretty amazing for the Heat and pretty good for the celtics when they were actual max players.

I think we could have made the Chris Paul trade with Bledsoe instead. Butler and pieces for redick.

DJ/

Griffin/Jamison

George/Barnes

Redick/Crawford

Paul/collison

Essentially the same team with George instead of Dudley. We'd be stacked, possibly a favorite.

Wouldn't he have been traded for Chris anyway?

Paul George would have had to be included in the trade for CP3. Not big deal he would have never stayed. The biggest blunder the clippers made is giving up Bledsoe for practically nothing. That might be the stupidest trade of all time.

If it were just a straight up trade of Bledsoe for Dudley, I would agree it would be stupid. Maybe I'm wrong but I believe it was Bledsoe and Caron for Dudley and Redick. Not so stupid.

We needed improvement with our wings. Maybe Dudley isn't an improvement over Caron (I'm still reserving judgement) but JJ's a big improvement at the 2 guard position. Fact is Caron usually wasn't the small forward who closed out games most of the time anyway. I figure the Clippers FO decided the Dudley/Barnes combo would be just fine. Redick/Crawford has been fantastic for us.

I think a lot of us wish we could keep Bledsoe around but it almost amounts to greed at this point. He deserved to be a starting point guard, yet we couldn't do that with Paul around. No way would I want him at SG (as some suggest) because his outside game is inconsistent AT BEST. So the other argument is we should have gotten "better" for him. But who? Sounds like some want a 3rd "star" for the team whatever that means. But Doc had a vision of incorporating role players on the team. Particularly he wanted a shooter in the Ray Allen mold. Seems to me we got just what we needed...just what the Doc-tor ordered (sorry...couldn't resist).

I still think we could have done the dual PG style they are doing in Phoenix. Paul and Bledsoe played really well together and it really kept the ball moving a lot. I would have rather had that personally and we could unload caron for cap purposes to someone or just have him play.

If its a trade of Bledsoe for Redick straight up (I consider caron and Dudley a wash, Caron was a better defender than people give him credit for). The. We could have developed Bullock and of course we signed Barnes to play him.

Bledsoe for Reddick had to be done. We had no shooters for black.

If bledsoe could shoot then I would agree. But Memphis exposed us

in the playoffs. All they did was pack the paint and no one could

shoot.

That's why we got DUDley and Reddick. Reddick has been a superb fit.

Dudley has not.

Actually when we played bledsoe and Paul the spacing was pretty dang good because caron loved to launch those 3's and Paul got into more of a shooting mode. VDN just wasn't very smart to really play that lineup together. Crawford also played well with Bledsoe and Bledsoe actually isn't a bad spot up shooter.

Dudley is injured. When performing at his norm, he's fine. And there is not guessing about that, we know he is injured, he just got another major treatment today, and he said he is trying to play through it as best he can but he's in constant pain out there.

Before the draft it was clear that Paul George wasn't strong enough to play SF, which was the position we needed. Obviously in hindsight he filled out nicely and can be an elite SF.

I remember I wanted P George as our 6th man and I wanted to trade Kaman for Iggy. Imagine our athleticism if everybody stayed.

Bledsoe

Gordon/George

Iggy

Griffin

Jordan

Whoa!!!

George would of been traded for Paul regardless so he would either be in Indy or Orleans. The Clippers never could of traded Bledsoe because we had no guarantee that Chris Paul would stay. The Dwight and Paul rumors were strong til we got Doc. Only guarantee was the Chris Paul pick up his player option giving us two full seasons to impress him.

There is only one way I see Paul George or Aminu still being a Clipper. That one way is if the Clippers never traded Baron Davis with an unprotected pick (horrible trade anyway). With a pick whether we won the lotto or not we have Kyrie Irving or maybe a Brandon Knight/Walker/Lay Thompson prospect to send instead of the previous year number 8.

Also I guess if we have Kyrie it becomes a question do we even trade for Paul. Depends on the mindset of the front office win now or develop.

I remember him wanting to be a clipper and I wanted us to draft him. Sucks we wasted the pick on aminu. In another reality we could have a core of Blake , Kyrie Irving and Paul George with DJ. Pretty crazy.

Yep but the rest of the roster would have to be minimum caliber players otherwise the Clippers would be way over the cap since Blake, Irving and PG are all max caliber players.

Much rather have a core of CP3, Blake and PG tbh. CP3 is much better than Irving imo and Irving likely will never come close to Cp3's level based on what I have seen so far. He is an incredibly flawed player. Way too ball dominant, horrendous defender, mediocre playmaker and hasn't ever made his team "better". He is a good scorer but that is it.

if we want to take it a step further:

PG-Irving (Bledsoe off bench)

SG-Gordon

SF-George

PF-Griffin

C-Jordan

How bout we just fix what we have now Smile. Dudley is not working for me.... Hopefully he improves. He might as well be Grant Hill.

I would take that core with role players. A starting 5 of kyrie, Bledsoe, George, griffin and DJ would be awesome. Plus you forget that we would have had cap room still and a top 10 pick in that 2012 draft as well.

Also kyrie and Bledsoe would probably be a perfect combo as one is a defensive specialist and the other an offensive specialist and both are solid ball handlers and play makers with Bledsoe having better court vision.

I am still learning so much about Clipper history and I know a lot! I had no idea the great Domonique Wilkins played for the Clippers! I had no idea we passed over Paul George for Al Foruq Aminu
